Frequently Asked Questions

What is organic meat exactly?

Organic meat is real food grown without pesticides, artificial fertilizers, or hormones. This also means that animals weren't given any genetically modified feed. The meat is safe to consume because it contains no harmful chemicals.

Organic meats are also healthier for the environment. Eating organic foods helps reduce pollution in the environment, such as rivers and lakes. We can also help wildlife by eating organic foods. Organic farmers do not often use toxic chemicals that can kill birds or insects.

Locally purchasing organic meats is the best way to make sure you are eating healthy and organic meats. Local purchases help keep more money within the community than traveling out of state. Local businesses often pass on savings to customers shopping locally. In addition, buying local keeps jobs right here in America instead of sending them overseas.

Is organic produce healthy?

There are two types of foods; those we grow ourselves and those we buy from someone else. Although there are exceptions to each category, most of the answers to your question are yes. Organic food is safer because it does not contain any harmful chemicals.

Organic food can be found in supermarkets throughout North America, Europe and Asia. Organic food can now be found in many grocery stores making it easier for shoppers to choose organic products.

Organic food tastes better and is more nutritious, as it has higher levels of vitamins and minerals. Organics are often grown without pesticides and synthetic fertilizers. This means that they do not pollute the soil and water sources.

The USDA regulates organic farming practices. They require farmers to follow strict guidelines so that organic produce can be eaten safely. There are over 30,000,000 acres of US agricultural land that has been certified organic.

Organic food is often more affordable than conventional food. The same amount of nutrients, calories, and protein is being offered by organic food, but consumers are often paying less. Organic farms are free to charge less for their crops, as they don't need to pay expensive chemical inputs such insecticides orfungicides.

According to Environmental Working Group, organic food can be 10 percent cheaper per pound when compared to conventionally produced food. If you care about the health of yourself and your family, consider switching to organic food.

Organic food is becoming a popular option to the standard American diet. Organic food is not only available in gourmet restaurants and specialty markets, as many people may believe. Organic food is readily available at regular grocery stores all across the United States.

Recent years have seen a significant increase in organic food sales. The market value of organic food in the US was $43 billion in 2012, up from $21 billion in 2007.

Why is organic food important?

Our health is dependent on organic produce. Organic produce is the best way to eat healthy foods. Not only is it better for us, but it's also more environmentally friendly because it doesn't rely on pesticides and fertilizers.

Organic farming is a natural method of growing crops that uses no harmful chemicals. This reduces the risk of environmental pollution, which makes it safer for people and animals. When you choose organic food, both you and the earth are protected.

However, organic food is good for our health. We all know how bad processed food can make us feel. But did you know that most organic fruits and vegetables aren't treated with chemical spray either? That means that they taste fresher, look brighter and last longer too.

That's why eating organic matters so much. Organic food is not only healthier for you but also for the whole world.

Do organic foods offer health benefits?

Even though organic foods might not be for everyone, there are some health benefits. But for those who eat them regularly, there are definite health benefits.

Organic food does not contain artificial fertilizers or pesticides. It also doesn't contain fungicides. Organic produce is produced without the use of harmful chemicals which could affect human health.

There are also fewer additives used during processing. Organic products are healthier than those that use additives during processing.

Studies show that organic foods contain more nutrients and antioxidants than conventionally grown fruits and vegetables.

Although organic farming methods tend to cost more than conventional farming methods, they often yield better results. Organic farming encourages soil fertility and biodiversity.

This helps conserve water resources and protects against erosion. Organic farms do not require toxic chemicals to operate. They also use less energy and fuel.

People worry that organic foods will be more expensive than those made from conventional food. Prices will vary depending where you live. Organic apples, on the other hand, tend to be more expensive that conventional apples.

However, organic fruit is more affordable if you compare the price of a basket of both types.

So, should you buy organic?

It all depends upon who you are. You shouldn't bother if you don't enjoy organic food.

You can purchase organic food if it is delicious. Organic food is safer because organic produce is not grown by commercial growers who use pesticides and chemical fertilizers.

Organic agriculture protects our environment by conserving natural resources and promoting biodiversity.

Organic foods are better for us.

According to the Environmental Working Group's recent report on pesticide residues within foods, organic fruits & vegetables contained nearly half of the pesticides that non-organic varieties. The Environmental Working Group found that organic apples contained eight-times less pesticides than other non-organic fruits, and organic strawberries had fourfold more than their conventional counterparts.

Studies have also shown that organic foods reduce the risk of mercury and lead poisoning. One study revealed that children who ate organic meat had 33 per cent lower blood lead levels than their counterparts who didn't eat organic meats. Another study concluded traditional fish should not be consumed by pregnant women, due to high mercury levels.

Organic food tends to be healthier than nonorganic. Experts recommend fresh vegetables and fruits whenever possible in order to reduce the risk of getting cancer.

What should I be looking out for when shopping organic products

USDA-certified organic label are desirable. This certification means that the product is certified organic by USDA. Look for the "USDA Organic" seal on packages, boxes, cartons, cans, and jars.

When shopping for meat ensure it comes only from cows that are fed 100% organic feed. Ruminants are cattle that chew their cud. Ruminant cattle have four stomach compartments: rumen, reticulum, omasum, and abomasum. All parts of an animal must be organically fed if the cow is going to be labelled '100% organic.'

Make sure you only buy chicken from chicken farms that are fed organically and have never been given antibiotics. Chickens can eat both animal and plant food. Omnivorous chickens have a digestive system that includes a crop (proventriculus), gizzard and small intestine.

When buying dairy products, ensure they come from cows fed 100% organically grown feed. Just like ruminants have four stomachs, dairy cows have four. The fourth stomach, or the udder is where you get milk.

You should always check the label before purchasing any other livestock. This will let you know what percentage of the diet was given to the animals. Pork may be labeled "95% Organic" which means that 95 percent of its feed was organic.

What are organic products good for skin?

Organic skincare products don't contain any synthetic chemicals such as parabens or phthalates.

Organic skincare products can be free of artificial colours and fragrances as well as preservatives, emulsifiers GMOs, Petrochemicals, animal testing (except for cosmetics tested on animals), pesticides hormones, antibiotics, heavy metallics and other contaminants.

They are also formulated to help maintain healthy skin, prevent premature aging, promote healing after injury, and support overall well-being.

These are some standard terms you might come across when shopping for organic items:

  • Paraben Free - these are a group of chemicals used to keep certain cosmetic products stable, but they can be toxic if consumed in large quantities.
  • Fragrance-Free – The product does not contain essential oils or perfumes.
  • Cruelty-Free - No animals were harmed during the manufacturing process.
  • Natural Ingredients - the ingredient is naturally derived from the plant or animal.
  • Vegetarian/Vegetarian- The ingredients are either vegan/vegetarian.
  • Gluten-Free: This is when gluten was eliminated from the formulation.
  • Non-Toxic: The product does not contain toxic substances, carcinogens or any other harmful compounds that could cause harm to your health.
  • Biodegradable - the product will break down into harmless components when discarded.
  • Pesticide-Free – No pesticides were used in the growing or harvesting of crops.
  • GMO-Free is a declaration that the product does not contain genetically modified organisms.
  • Certified Organic is a certification that the ingredients of the recipe were grown using sustainable methods.

Statistics

  • Once certified by the USDA, it can fall into one of four categories: "100 percent organic", "organic," "made with organic ingredients," or "made with less than 70 percent organic ingredients. (en.wikipedia.org)
  • Nutrients like omega-3 fatty acids were up to 50 percent higher in organic meats and milk than in conventionally raised products.[3] (en.wikipedia.org)
  • As for organic meat, regulations require that animals be raised in living conditions that accommodate their natural behaviours (like the ability to graze on pasture), fed 100% organic feed and forage, and not administered antibiotics or hormones. (usda.gov)
  • To provide the highest quality products and services to every customer, with a dedicated workforce that puts the customer first and takes the extra step to achieve 100% customer satisfaction and loyalty. (hollinsorganic.com)

How To

What happens to your body when you switch to organic products?

Organic products can be grown without synthetic fertilizers, hormones or antibiotics. They are derived from clean water and animals that have been free to roam. The term "organic", which means they don't contain additives or chemicals, refers to their non-containing any. This product was created by nature, and therefore does not contain harmful substances.

Natural refers to the way food was grown. It is used to describe food that has not been processed into its final form, such as fruits. Natural foods are more fresh than other foods because they have not been subject to heat, radiation or chemical preservatives. However, some people believe natural doesn't necessarily mean healthy. Experts believe there is no difference in organic and conventional food. Both types can be tested for safety and quality. Organic produce is less likely to contain pesticide residues and pollutants than conventionally grown produce.

Most grocery stores now sell organic products. Organic meat, poultry or eggs can be found at most local markets. Some companies sell only organic products; others have separate sections for them. USDA Certified Organic and Non-GMO Project Verified are some of the options.

If you are pregnant, or nursing, these products should not be eaten. Unborn babies and infants can be affected by pesticides.
