There are two types. Those we grow or those we get from someone else. There are exceptions, but the majority of the time, both options will be available. Organic food is healthier than conventional food because it doesn’t contain harmful chemicals, pesticides or herbicides. It also doesn’t contain preservatives or genetically modified organisms.

There are many supermarkets that sell organic food across North America and Europe. Many grocery stores now sell organic food. This makes it easier for customers to select organic products.

Organic food can often be cheaper than conventional food. For the same amount, consumers pay less. Organic farms don't have the expense of expensive chemical inputs, such as insecticides and/or fungicides. They can charge lower prices.

In fact, according to the Environmental Working Group, organic food costs 10 percent less per pound than conventionally produced food. Consider switching to organic foods if you are concerned about your health and the well-being of your family.

Organic food has been a popular alternative for standard American diets. Although many may think that organic food is only available at specialty markets and gourmet restaurants, this isn't true. Organic food is readily available at regular grocery stores all across the United States.

The sales of organic food have increased dramatically in recent years. In 2012, the US market value for organic food was $43 Billion. This is an increase of $21 Billion from 2007.


What are organic foods and how do they compare?

Organic produce is grown without pesticides, synthetic fertilizers, sewage sludge, irradiation, genetic engineering, or confinement feeding. No growth hormones or animal testing are done. These crops can naturally grow, so no chemicals are used by farmers to combat pests or weeds.

Organic farming methods also help to preserve soil quality, reduce erosion, and conserve water resources. Organics are also better for your health as they contain more nutrients that conventional food. Organic products tend to be higher in fiber and lower fat than conventionally produced foods.


Organic foods are better for us.

The Environmental Working Group's most recent report on pesticide residues found in food shows that organic fruits and veggies had almost half the pesticide content of non-organic. Organic apples had eight times less pesticides than nonorganic apples. However, organic strawberries had four times the amount of pesticides as their conventional counterparts.

Studies have also shown that organic foods reduce the risk of mercury and lead poisoning. A study concluded that children who ate organic meat had 33% lower levels of blood lead than those who didn’t. A second study found that conventional fish should be avoided by pregnant women due to the high levels of mercury.

Organic food seems to be safer than the non-organic. However, to reduce your risk of cancer and other diseases, experts recommend choosing fresh fruit and vegetables whenever possible.


How do you determine if food has been grown organically?

Ask any chef and he will tell you that fresh ingredients are the most important thing. It's because we feel better when food is well-prepared.

The same applies to our food. Organics are traceable back to the source and provenance of their products. We also know it was not treated using harmful chemicals.

Organic food does not contain synthetic pesticides, fertilers, hormones or antibiotics. Organic farmers aren't allowed to use these substances.

There is no art in growing organic crops. There are many safe ways to grow them.

Sometimes, organic farming is called sustainable agriculture. Organic farming is more sustainable than traditional methods and provides all the nutrients necessary to sustain life.

Organic farming methods include crop rotations, composting manure and cover cropping. These techniques can prevent soil erosion, improve water quality, and help reduce the risk of it happening again.

They also reduce chemical contamination of waterways. We can also find organic farms in our urban surroundings.

There are two types certified programs for organic products. The USDA National Organic Program certifies the one while the independent certifying agency certifies the other. Both require strict organic standards to be adhered to.

USDA seals or O Seals can be applied to organic products. This symbol indicates that the product meets federal requirements.


Is organic meat healthier?

If you've been paying attention for any time, you probably already know the answer to this question. Here's the problem: Organic food is becoming more sought-after, while traditional food continues to decline in popularity.

Organic foods continue to be popular because they offer a healthier alternative. Organic products are healthier for us and the environment.

But there are two sides to this coin. Organic produce takes longer to grow and requires more resources to do so. Organic food can be more expensive than its nonorganic counterpart.

Organic meats will typically be more expensive than those that are raised in conventional conditions. But, you can reduce the cost of organic meats without compromising quality.

Local purchases can help you save money. Buy locally grown vegetables and fruits to help keep prices low. Farmers receive incentives to grow healthier crops.

Another way to cut costs is to look for deals. There are often discounts offered when purchasing organics.

Another way to save money? Eat less meat. Meat production can be costly due to the feed needed to raise livestock.

Organic food is healthier for the planet and our bodies than conventional food, but it's important to not overlook its cost.

What happens to your Body When You Switch To Organic Products?

Organic products are free from synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, hormones, and genetic manipulation. They come only from natural sources of water and free-range animals. The term "organic" means they do not contain any chemicals or additives. This product is natural and does not contain any harmful substances.

The term "natural", refers only to how food was grown. It is used to describe food that has not been processed into its final form, such as fruits. Natural foods are often more fresh than others, because they haven’t been processed with heat, radiation or chemical preservations. Some people don't believe that natural means healthy. You should look for USDA Certified Organic, Non GMO Project Verified (Biodynamic Association Certified), Rainforest Alliance Certified, and other certifications.
