I love the way spices add flavour to food. But how can you make them live when they're used in drinks.
Spices can bring out the best of any beverage. From coffee to tea, hot chocolate to cocktails, there's nothing more satisfying than adding a dash of cinnamon or nutmeg to a glass of wine or beer.
Most recipes call for ground spices. This means that you'll need fresh whole spice. Although this is logical, it can be costly, time-consuming, and takes up storage space.
Here's where the magic happens. With some creativity, your favourite spices can be made into powdered forms that are easy to use. Then you can mix them into your favourite beverages to create delicious spiced drinks.
There are two ways to go about creating these powders. One method involves grinding whole spices to a fine powder. One method involves using a mortar-and-pestle to grind spices into a finer consistency.
Whichever method you choose, you'll find that the resulting powder is much easier to measure out and store than whole spices. Plus, the powder keeps well so that you won't run out of stock.
You can also experiment with different spices to create new flavor combinations. For minty water you could mix spearmint with peppermint leaves. Ginger and cardamom pods can be used to make spicy ginger Tea.

How to store cooking spice?
I will tell you how to store cooking spices for optimal performance. We must first understand the science behind food storage.
Because spices lose their flavour when exposed to the sun, they are best kept out of reach from light. This is caused by oxidation, which happens when oxygen and organic compounds combine like spices.
Spices should be kept in the dark cupboards and sealed tightly in airtight containers to prevent oxidation. Spice tends to lose its flavour quickly if these conditions aren't met.
Keep spices fresh by storing them in airtight jars out of direct sunlight.
To create a flavorful drink, you can add spices and herbs to water. For example, mix two teaspoons of ground cinnamon with 1/2 cup of warm water and stir well. Add a squeeze of lemon juice and serve immediately.
Add dried herbs and spices to soups. Place the spice mixture on top of the dish and allow it to rest for 5-10 mins before serving.
You can add leftover cooked vegetables, fruits, meats and shellfish to your favorite recipes as snacks.
