This playful twist on a classic cocktail replaces the alcohol with Curio spice. This zero-proof negroni cocktail is the perfect way to stick to your resolutions, or explore the trend of being sober curious.
To make the cocktail:
1oz Negroni Concentrate
Tonic Water
1 orange zest strip for garnish
Pour Negroni concentrate in a rocks glass. Add ice, and top off with soda water or tonic. Gently stir. Orange zest can be garnished by squeezing it over the glass and releasing the volatile oils.
The Negroni concentrate is made with: 1/2 cup crushed roselle5 whole cloves6 green cardamom pods1 tsp of timur pepper berries1/2 tsp black pepper1 cinnamon quill1 blood orange, caracara or navel2 teaspoons turmeric1 tablespoon honey
In a mortar, crush the roselle, cardamom and timur pepperberries. Also, crack the black peppercorns and the cloves. Remove all the zest of 1 orange using a vegetable peeler.
In a small pan, combine 2 cups water, roselle and cracked spices. Add orange zest, cinnamon sticks, and turmeric powder. Bring liquids to a boil on high heat. Reduce heat to low, and simmer uncovered for 20 minutes until the liquids are reduced to 1 cup. Stir to dissolve honey and 1/4 teaspoon salt.
Strain into an airtight jar and store chilled for up to a week.
