How to Store Spices

Keep them away from heat and light.

You can store them for long periods in a dark cupboard. This will ensure that they stay fresh and prevent any possible oxidation.

Store your spices in a cool, dry area away from direct sunlight. A heater or window can cause the spice to lose its aroma and flavour.

Spices can be best kept in an airtight container or tin. You should ensure that the containers are not moistened if you store them in plastic containers.

Always check the seal after opening and resealing, as humidity can cause spoilage.

You don't have to throw out leftover spices. Instead, use them up by adding them to other dishes. To extend their shelf life, you can freeze them.

Thai food can be described as sweet, salty or sour.

Thais value sweetness as it makes the food more enjoyable. Thai cuisine relies heavily on sweet ingredients, such as coconut milk (gula melaka), and palm sugar.

Sourness is also very popular in Thailand. Hot dishes often pair well with sour foods. This helps to balance the heat.

Thai food has a lot of spicy ingredients. Spices such as chilli pepper, galangal, ginger root, and garlic are used extensively in Thai recipes.

What are the 11 Indian spice blends?

The eleven spices of Indian cuisine are coriander seeds, cumin seeds, fennel seeds, mustard seeds, nigella seeds, black pepper, cloves, cinnamon sticks, dry red chili powder, turmeric, and cardamom.

These spices are found in nearly every dish. These spices lend a unique flavour to dishes such dal (lentils), curries chutneys pickles rice, bread and sweets.

Also, spices have many health benefits. To fight cancer cells, turmeric is an example. Bad breath is prevented by cloves. Black pepper reduces cholesterol levels. Cinnamon lowers blood pressure. And ginger aids digestion.

A spice rack can be a wonderful kitchen tool, as it allows for you to try different flavors. You have the option to make your own mixes of spices, or you can buy ready-made ones that include all the essential spices.

Some people don't like spices. These people believe spices are a masking agent and do not enhance natural flavors. However, adding a pinch of salt or pepper is no harm in enhancing the flavor of your meals.

Most chefs agree spices are essential to culinary art. Many dishes would taste bland and boring without spices. You might be inspired to try something new next time you feel adventurous.
