The flavours brought about by this spice provide a unique and complex taste that is integral to the experience of eating Thai food. Cumin is an important ingredient in Thai cuisine because it adds unique spices to many dishes.

What's the Difference Between Cooking With Whole vs. Ground Spices?

There is no difference between cooking whole spices and with ground spices. After harvesting, spices are ground. So there is no difference in quality.

However, this price differential is quite significant. Whole spices are more expensive because of the labor required to process them. But the flavour is worth it.

When you buy bulk spices, you may get additional discounts. A whole bag of cinnamon sticks might be eligible for a discount.

This is true for cloves, ginger and cardamom. If you purchase these spices in bulk, you may be able to save money.

Ground spices last much longer than whole spices. Because ground spices lose potency quickly from oxidation, this is why whole spices last longer than ground spices.

However, the main reason we recommend whole spices is because they add character to recipes.

A delicious curry can be made with whole turmeric as opposed to ground turmeric. Or you can grind whole coriander seeds to create a spice blend for chicken dishes.

The process of grinding spices takes a lot of time. A large amount of whole spices is a good idea. That way, you won't run out of spices too fast.

What are 7 Indian spices?

Indian spices include a range of spices that are used to make Indian cuisine. They usually include cardamom (also known by hing), cumin, turmeric, coriander, fenugreek, ginger, and asafoetida. Spices add flavour to dishes by blending natural ingredients like meats, vegetables and spices. Together, spices create unique flavour profiles that make Indian cooking so distinct.

Cardamom's sweet, pungent flavor is balanced with ginger and citrus notes. It is often used to flavour curries and rice dishes like biryani. Cumin has a earthy aroma and a rich, bitter flavour. It is often added to dals, curries, and meat dishes. Coriander gives dishes a mild nuttiness due to its sweet citrus aroma. It is used to season lentils and vegetables.

Turmeric is a spice that has an earthy flavor. It can be mixed with mustard, spices and pepper hints. This spice is used in curries and other dishes. It has a golden color. Fenugreek's aroma is rich and has earthy tones. It is often used in seasoning meat dishes like kebabs, curries, and kebabs. It is spicy and pungent with citrus hints. It can be used to spice up soups, curries and chutneys. Asafoetida (hing), has a strong flavor and pungent smell that can be used in place of onion and garlic in certain recipes.

These spices combine to create unique flavours that make Indian cuisine so distinctive.

How To

Do You Know How to Make Curry Paste?

Curry paste uses dried chillies, shallots, galangal root, lemongrass, kaffir lime leaf, garlic, shrimp paste, sugar, salt, and sometimes coconut milk. It's a common ingredient in Thai cuisine.

Curry paste is one of the most popular condiments in Southeast Asia. It gives many dishes a unique taste, including curries, soups stir-fries, stir-fries and salads.

It's easy to make at-home! Follow the steps below to make it easy!

Step1 - Prepare Ingredients

  • You need to prepare all ingredients before starting this recipe.
  • First, peel and chop shallots (2 cups). Next, chop galangal root into small pieces (3 inches in length) and place aside.
  • Next, remove and cut the cloves of garlic (about four cloves). Next, peel and mince the lemongrass stems (about 1/2-inch thick).
  • Then, crush dried red chilli peppers (about four tablespoons) and remove the seeds (optional).
  • Cut the kaffirlime leaves into small strips, approximately 5 inches in length. Remove the white part of the stem and set it aside.
  • After draining the shrimp paste, wash it well and then coarsely smash it.
  • Finally, measure the sugar and salt.

Step2 - Grind Ingredients

  • Blend all ingredients until smooth
  • It should have a texture similar to peanut butter.
  • You can replace some oil with water if you wish to reduce the oil content of your dish.

Step3 - Add Coconut Milk

  • Mix the coconut milk into the mixture.
  • You should slowly add the coconut milk so that it doesn't get too sticky.
  • If you like it milder, reduce the number of chillies used and add more galangal root.
  • For a more spicy taste, increase the amount of chillies and reduce the use of galangal root. The final result should taste good to you.

Step4 - Serve

  • Top with your favorite food.
  • Enjoy!
