Frequently Asked Questions

What is the use of garlic in Thai cooking?

Thai cuisine often uses garlic. Garlic is often added to dishes such as salads, soups, stir-fries, curries, sauces, and rice.

Garlic is often fried in Thailand with ginger, shallots, and other spices. Also, you can eat it with sticky white rice.

The most common way to eat garlic is to chop it finely and mix it with chilli paste, salt, fish sauce, lime juice, and oil. This mixture is known as Nam Phrik (namphrik). Nam phrik often comes with grilled chicken breast or beef.

What is the difference between cooking with whole spices and using ground spices? Ground Spices?

There isn't any difference between cooking with whole spices and ground spices. After harvesting, all spices are ground. It doesn't make a difference in terms of quality.

However, this price differential is quite significant. Whole spices are more expensive because of the labor required to process them. But the taste is worth it.

Bulk purchases of whole spices can often get you additional discounts. For example, you might receive a discount if you buy an entire bag of cinnamon sticks.

The same goes for nutmeg, cloves, ginger, cardamom, etc. These spices can be purchased in bulk to save money.

Ground spices last much longer than whole spices. Because ground spices lose potency quickly from oxidation, this is why whole spices last longer than ground spices.

The main reason we recommend whole spices over dried is that they can add lots of flavor to recipes.

You can make a delicious curry by using whole turmeric in place of ground turmeric. For chicken dishes, whole coriander seeds can be ground to make a spice blend.

Also, grinding spices takes time. When you buy whole spices, it makes sense to buy a large quantity. So you don't run short of spices.

How to store your spices?

Keep them away from heat and light.

If you want to keep spices fresh for a long time, place them into a dark cupboard. This will help keep them fresh and prevent any deterioration due to oxidation.

Your spices should be kept in cool and dry areas, away from direct sunlight. The spice may lose flavour and aroma if placed near a window or heater.

Spices are best stored in an airtight glass jar or tin. If you are storing your spices in plastic containers, ensure there is no moisture.

As humidity can cause mold growth, it is important to check the seal before opening or resealing.

If you have leftover spices, don't throw them away. You can make use of them by adding them to your favorite dishes. For an extended shelf life, you can freeze the vegetables.

What are the Primary Flavours In Thai Cooking?

Thai cuisine includes several distinct regional cuisines. There are five main types of Thai cuisine: Northern, Central, Southern and Eastern. Each region has its distinctive flavour profile.

The most common flavours in Thai food are sweet, salty, sour, spicy, bitter, pungent, and nutty.

Thais value sweetness as it makes the food more enjoyable. Thai cuisine includes sweet ingredients like palm sugar (gulamelaka) or coconut milk.

Thailand's most popular food is sourness. Hot dishes are often paired with sour foods. This helps to balance the heat.

Thai food also includes spicy food. Thai recipes often include spices such as galangal and ginger root.

How To

How to Cut Shiitake Mushrooms

The shiitakes grow well. There is nothing wrong with them. How do we cut them? We tried everything. Even scissors. They keep falling out of our hands. What's going on here?

There's a trick to that. To make the mushroom stem stick out, wrap a rubber band around it and twist it tightly. That way, you won't slip and cut yourself.

It may sound too simple. It is. However, it is also very efficient.

The rubber band makes stems slippery, making them feel more natural when picked up. You can also hold the stem tight.

You can now try it. It's so easy to chop mushrooms now.
