Frequently Asked Questions

Is garlic used in Thai cooking?

Thai cuisine includes garlic. Garlic is often added to dishes such as salads, soups, stir-fries, curries, sauces, and rice.

In Thailand, garlic is chopped and fried with shallots, ginger, and spices. It is also often eaten with sticky rice.

The most common way to eat garlic is to chop it finely and mix it with chilli paste, salt, fish sauce, lime juice, and oil. This mixture is called Nam Phrik (namphrik). Nam phrik is often served with grilled chicken or beef.

How to Store Spices

Keep them out of the sun and heat.

To store spices for longer periods of time, place them in a dark cupboard. This will preserve them and prevent any oxidation.

Keep spices away from direct sunlight in a dry, cool place. The spice may lose flavour and aroma if placed near a window or heater.

Spices need to be kept in an airtight glass container or tin. If you are storing your spices in plastic containers, ensure there is no moisture.

After opening the seal, make sure to inspect it again. Humidity can cause spoilage.

Don't throw out any spice leftovers. Make sure to use leftover spices in other recipes. For an extended shelf life, you can freeze the vegetables.

What's the difference between cooking whole and with ground spices? Ground Spices?

There isn't any difference between cooking with whole spices and ground spices. After harvesting, spices are ground. The quality is the same.

The price difference is however significant. Whole spices are more expensive due to the labour required for processing them. But the taste is worth it.

When you buy bulk spices, you may get additional discounts. For example, you might receive a discount if you buy an entire bag of cinnamon sticks.

The same applies to nutmeg and cloves, ginger or cardamom. If you purchase these spices in bulk, you may be able to save money.

Whole spices can also last longer than the ground spices. Because ground spices lose potency quickly from oxidation, this is why whole spices last longer than ground spices.

Whole spices are a great way to add personality and flavor to your recipe.

You can make a delicious curry by using whole turmeric in place of ground turmeric. To make a spice mixture for chicken dishes, you can grind whole coriander seed.

Grinding spices takes time. If you're buying whole spices it makes sense for you to buy large quantities. That way, you won't run out of spices too fast.

Is Thai food made with cumin?

Cumin is one the most common spices in Thai cooking. To create Thai dishes with unique flavours, cumin is often combined in various combinations with garlic ginger, coriander, coriander, or other spices.

Stir-fries are a popular use of cumin in Thai cooking. Cumin can also be added to sauces, marinades and dressings. Cumin is a key ingredient in Thai food. However, there are many other spices.

Fish sauce, garlic and ginger are all great additions to this mix. Chefs can create unique dishes by combining different spices in different amounts.

Overall, cumin is essential in Thai cooking and is often found in many traditional dishes. The complex flavours of cumin add a special flavor to Thai cuisine. Cumin can be used to add unique spices to many Thai dishes.

By adding spices such as cumin to their dishes, chefs can create delicious and unique flavours that capture the essence of Thai cooking. So the answer to the question is yes - cumin is a critical component in many traditional Thai dishes.

What uses is Thai spice?

We all have heard the term Thai spices, but we don't understand what it really means. But when we discover our mouths water, we wonder why we haven't been eating more of it.

It's much more than a spice. It's an essential ingredient, which adds depth and flavor to dishes otherwise bland.

Many recipes call for Thai spice, but only a few have the actual thing. Let's discuss how to incorporate these tasty flavors into your meals.

Thais have used herbs and spices since ancient times to enhance food and drink. The name Thai originates from the Sanskrit word for "to cook."

Many Thais love spicy foods, even today. This preference is often attributed to the hot weather in Thailand, which makes it difficult to keep warm without something hot to drink. Thais are also more likely to consume chili peppers as compared to Americans or Europeans.

A local Asian grocery store is the best place to learn more about Thai spice. There you will find a variety of ingredients such as dried chilies fresh basil leaves curry paste and ground black pepper.

Also, you may find whole peppercorns.

Thai cuisine can use either dry or wet spices. Wet spices are ground finely, while dry spices are typically ground.

Dry spices are often added to a dish directly. You can sprinkle ground red pepper on your chicken soup. In order to make a paste out of wet spices, oil or butter is often used.

Wet spices are commonly used in marinades and sauces. Wet spices are used in many dishes, including fish sauce, oyster, sesame, sesame, sesame oil and curry paste.

If you want to try making Thai dishes at home, you need to know which spices go well with certain ingredients.

Red pepper flakes can be used to season beef. White pepper is better for seafood such as shrimp.

If you don't live near an Asian market, you can order online. There are many options for exotic herbs, spices and dried chilies.

This Thai recipe will give you a kick next time your stomach gets rumbling.

What is the difference in curry and curried?

There is no difference between the spellings. Both terms refer to the exact same thing: An Indian dish that combines meat and vegetables with different seasonings.

Curry comes from Hindi word kari that means "to rub". It refers how spice mixtures are applied to food. Curried foods should be cooked until they are golden brown.

Curried dishes were once reserved for special occasions, but today, they're enjoyed frequently throughout India. You can choose from chicken, beef, lamb or fish as well as vegetables and rice.

Curried dishes are typically served alongside plain white rice. The most common accompaniments are raita (a yogurt paste) and chutney.

What spices are commonly used in Thai cuisine?

Thai cuisine is well-known for its rich flavour profiles. These flavours come from unique and flavorful spices that create various delicious dishes.

Thai cooking uses many common ingredients, including galangal kaffir lime leaf, galangal kaffir lemon leaves, chillies, chillies, garlic, shrimp paste, cumin, turmeric, and many more.

Each one of these spices adds to Thai cuisine’s unique flavour profile. Do you know how to make curry paste?

Curry paste includes dried chillies (scallions, shallots), galangal root and lemongrass as well as kaffir lime leaves, garlic, shrimp pastes, sugar, salt and sometimes coconut milk. It's used extensively in Thai cuisine.

Curry paste is a popular condiment in Southeast Asia. It adds a unique flavour to many dishes, such as curries, soups, stir-fries, salads, rice dishes, noodles, and desserts.

It's not difficult to make at home! Follow our step by step guide below.

Step1 - Prepare Ingredients

  • Before starting the recipe, you will need to prepare all ingredients.
  • Peel and chop shallots (about two cups). Next, cut galangal root into small chunks (about 3 inches) and put aside.
  • Next, you will need to peel and slice the garlic cloves (about 4 cloves). Peel and finely mince lemongrass stems (about 1/2 inch thick).
  • You can then crush the red chilli bell peppers into small pieces (about 4 tablespoons), and then you can remove the seeds (optional).
  • Next, trim the kaffir lime leaves into strips about 5 inches in length. Remove the white part of the stem and set it aside.
  • Next, drain and wash the shrimp paste (6 ounces), and then coarsely mashing it.
  • Measure out the sugar and salt.

Step2 - Grind Ingredients

  • Blend all ingredients until smooth
  • It should have a texture similar to peanut butter.
  • If you would like to reduce the amount oil in your dish, you could substitute water for some of it.

Step3 - Add Coconut Milk

  • Add coconut milk to the mixture and mix well.
  • Slowly add coconut milk to ensure that the paste doesn't become too sticky.
  • If you like it milder, reduce the number of chillies used and add more galangal root.
  • For a more spicy taste, increase the amount of chillies and reduce the use of galangal root. The final product should be tasty to you.

Step4 -- Serve

  • Serve on top of your favourite foods.
  • Enjoy!
