Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference in curry and curried?

The spellings are the same. Both words refer to the same thing: an Indian dish combining meat or vegetables with various seasonings.

Curry is derived from the Hindi word kari, which means "to rub". This refers to the way the spice mixture is applied to the food. Curried foods should be cooked until they are golden brown.

Curried dishes weren't always reserved for special occasions. Today, they can be enjoyed throughout India. You can choose from chicken, beef, lamb or fish as well as vegetables and rice.

Plain white rice is usually served with curried dishes. You can also add raita (a yogurt sauce), or chutney (a sweet relish).

How to store your spices?

Keep them in an airtight container away from light and heat.

Place them in a dark cupboard to store spices for extended periods. This will keep the spices fresh and prevent any oxidation.

Keep your spices out of direct sunlight and in a cool dry place. The spice may lose flavour and aroma if placed near a window or heater.

Spices need to be kept in an airtight glass container or tin. Make sure that there is no moisture in any plastic containers you store spices in.

Check the seal every time you open and reseal it. Heat can cause moisture to spoil your product.

If you have leftover spices, don't throw them away. Don't throw them away, instead use them in new recipes. You can even freeze them to extend their shelf life.

What's the importance of spices in your life?

A spice can be described as a seasoning to enhance flavour in food. Spices come in various forms, such as powders, liquids, gums, oils, pastes, and seeds. They are also known for their versatility and ability to be used as flavours and condiments.

It's a great way of adding variety to your meals by spiceing them up. For extra flavor and excitement, you can add many spices to your dishes.

It may be that adding a few drops to your bowl of soup makes it more flavorful. Mixing a couple of cayenne peppers in a cup rice can make it even more delicious.

The best way to experiment with spicing recipes is to use fresh ingredients. Organic herbs are better than dried herbs. Fresh herbs last longer than dried.

Certain spices are essential in cooking. However, you may prefer to avoid some. Cinnamon sticks have high levels of coumarin. They should not be consumed if you have had liver disease in the past. Although ginger also contains coumarin it is much less concentrated. It's safe for people who don't have a history of liver problems.

How To

How do you store your cooking spices?

Here's how to store your cooking spices for maximum performance. First, let's understand how foods are stored.

Because spices lose their flavour when exposed to the sun, they are best kept out of reach from light. This is because oxygen reacts with organic compounds like those in spices to cause oxidation.

To avoid oxidation, spices must be kept in dark cupboards. Spices lose their flavor quickly if these conditions don't exist.

It is the best way to preserve spices' flavours by keeping them out of direct sunlight.

You can add herbs and spices to water to make a flavoured drink. Mix two teaspoons of ground cinnamon and 1/2 cup warm water. Stir well. Serve immediately by adding a squeeze lemon juice.

Dried herbs can be added to soups stews, casseroles pasta dishes rice dishes salads and desserts. Sprinkle the spice mixture evenly on the dish, and let it sit for five to ten minutes before you serve.

As snacks, leftover cooked vegetables and fruits can be added into your favourite recipes.

To get the best flavours from fresh herbs and spices, cut them or tear them and add them to hot foods. You can freeze herbs or spices by placing them on ice cube tray or muffin cups. Once frozen, transfer to freezer bags or zip-top plastic bags.
