What is the use of garlic in Thai cooking?

Thai cuisine includes garlic. Garlic is used in Thai cuisine as an ingredient in salads, soups and stir-fries.

Thai garlic is chopped and fried together with ginger, shallots and other spices. Also, you can eat it with sticky white rice.

That's where the magic happens. With some creativity, your favourite spices can be made into powdered forms that are easy to use. Then you can mix them into your favourite beverages to create delicious spiced drinks.

There are two methods to make these powders. A second method is to grind whole spices into fine powder. Another uses a mortar and pestle to grind the spices into a finer consistency.

No matter which method you use, the powder will be much easier to measure and store than whole spices. The powder is stable so you don't run low on stock.

You can even experiment with mixing different spices to create new flavours. For example, you could combine peppermint and spearmint leaves to make minty water. To make spicy ginger tea, you can also combine ginger and cardamom pods.

Once you have mastered the art of making powdered spices you can use that same technique for herbs. You can use basil, rosemary and thyme as common herbs.

There are so many possibilities. Use powdered spices to give your beverages extra flavour or to enhance the taste of dishes such as soups, salads, and pasta.


What are the most common spices, condiments and seasonings that Thais use in their cuisine?

Thai cuisine is a mix of Asian influences. Its roots are found in India and China, as well as Southeast Asia.

Freshness, the essential ingredient of Thai cuisine, is key. There is much more flavour when ingredients are picked early and cooked quickly. This is why meats and fish, as well as vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds and grains, are often eaten raw and served warm.

Sauces and spices add depth and flavor to dishes. Fresh basil, cilantro, mint, coriander (cilantro), lemongrass, ginger, turmeric, garlic, chillies, chilli paste, soy sauce, tamarind juice, oyster sauce, palm sugar, coconut milk, lime leaves, galangal root, curry powder, shrimp paste, fish sauce, tamarind water, rice vinegar, etc. These ingredients are common.

How do you make a garlic press?

A garlic press is one of the most valuable tools in any home cook's arsenal. This allows you to quickly mince garlic and make smooth sauces, soups, and salad dressings. It is also useful for crushing whole cloves of garlic into buttery spreads and garlic salt.

If you don't yet have a garlic presse, you may be wondering where to get one. Here are some tips to get you started.

First of all, you'll need to get a large bowl. Place the bowl beneath the press, and then pour the crushed garlic in it. Now adjust the pressure regulator to the maximum.

Next, move the handle clockwise so that you hear a click. The top end of the press should lift and reveal a flat area that allows you to slide your blade back and forth across the bowl. Continue turning the handle in a clockwise direction until the blades come to a close.
