What is the difference between curry and curried?

There is no difference in spelling. Both words mean the same thing: Indian cuisine that includes meat and vegetables mixed with different seasonings.

Curry derives its name from the Hindi word kari which means "to rub." The spice mixture is then applied to the food. Curried foods are typically cooked until browned.

Curried dishes weren't always reserved for special occasions. Today, they can be enjoyed throughout India. You can choose from chicken, beef, lamb or fish as well as vegetables and rice.

These ingredients are used in almost every dish. These spices add a unique flavor to dishes like curries, chutneys and pickles, rice, bread, and desserts.

Also, spices have many health benefits. To fight cancer cells, turmeric is an example. Bad breath is protected by cloves. Black pepper helps lower cholesterol levels. Cinnamon lowers blood pressure. And ginger aids digestion.

A spice rack is a fantastic kitchen tool that allows you experiment with different combinations. You can make your own blends of spices or buy ready-made mixes containing many essential spices.

Some people choose not to add spice to their food. They believe that spices only mask natural flavors and do nothing to improve them. However, adding a pinch of salt or pepper is no harm in enhancing the flavor of your meals.

Most chefs agree that spices are a vital part of culinary art. Without spices, many dishes are bland and tasteless. Try a new recipe next time you feel adventurous.


What are the most common spices, condiments and seasonings that Thais use in their cuisine?

Thai cuisine is a mix of Asian influences. Its roots lie in India, China, and Southeast Asia.

Freshness, the essential ingredient of Thai cuisine, is key. There is much more flavour when ingredients are picked early and cooked quickly. This is why meat, fish, vegetables, fruits, herbs, nuts, seeds, and grains are often eaten raw and served hot.

Spices and sauces add complexity and fragrance to dishes. Fresh basil, cilantro, mint, coriander (cilantro), lemongrass, ginger, turmeric, garlic, chillies, chilli paste, soy sauce, tamarind juice, oyster sauce, palm sugar, coconut milk, lime leaves, galangal root, curry powder, shrimp paste, fish sauce, tamarind water, rice vinegar, etc. These ingredients are common.


Is it possible to add spice to a drink?

I love the way spices add flavour to food. But how do you make spices liven up when they are added to drinks?

Spices are great because they bring out the best in any beverage. Add a pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg to your favorite beverage, such as coffee, tea, or hot chocolate.

But most recipes call for ground spices, meaning you'll need fresh whole spices. Although this is logical, it can be costly, time-consuming, and takes up storage space.

Here is where the magic happens. It's possible to transform your favorite spices into a powdered form that is easy to use with a bit of creativity. You can then mix the spices into your favorite beverages to make delicious spiced drinks.

Two ways can you make powders. A second method is to grind whole spices into fine powder. One method involves using a mortar-and-pestle to grind spices into a finer consistency.

It doesn't matter what method you choose, the result is easier to measure out than whole spices and easier to store. Plus, the powder keeps well so that you won't run out of stock.

You can also experiment with different spices to create new flavor combinations. For example, you could combine peppermint and spearmint leaves to make minty water. You can also make spicy ginger-ginger tea by combining ginger and cardamom seeds.

Once you are proficient in making powdered spice, you can also apply this technique to herbs. You can use basil, rosemary and thyme as common herbs.

The possibilities are limitless. You can use powdered spice to enhance the flavour of your drinks or dishes like soups, salads, or pasta.

How to store spices for cooking?

This article will show you how to store cooking spice for optimal performance. First, let's understand how foods are stored.

Because light can diminish the flavour of spices, they should be kept in sealed containers. This is due to oxidation which occurs when oxygen combines with organic compounds such as those found in spices.

Spices should be kept in the dark cupboards and sealed tightly in airtight containers to prevent oxidation. Spice tends to lose its flavour quickly if these conditions aren't met.

Keep spices fresh by storing them in airtight jars out of direct sunlight.

You can add herbs and spices to water to make a flavoured drink. Mix two teaspoons of ground cinnamon and 1/2 cup warm water. Stir well. Serve immediately with a squeeze of lemon.

Dried herbs can be added to soups stews, casseroles pasta dishes rice dishes salads and desserts. Spread the spice mixture evenly onto the dish. Allow it to sit for between 5-10 minutes before serving.

If you have leftover cooked vegetables, fruit, meats, poultry, fish, shellfish, eggs, cheese, bread, crackers, cookies, cakes, pies, or puddings, they can be added to your favourite recipes as snacks.

To get the best flavours from fresh herbs and spices, cut them or tear them and add them to hot foods. You can also freeze spices and herbs by placing them in muffin cups or ice trays and freezing them. Once frozen, place them in freezer bags or zip-top bags.
