Sri Lanka is currently in an economic crisis. President Gotabaya Rajapaksa is the new leader of the government. He made the decision to switch all agriculture to organic production, including bans on uncertified organic fertilizers. This has had devastating consequences. These effects include a slowdown in Sri Lankan exports and an increase in Sri Lanka's sovereign borrowing from 7% to 16%. This has led to economic inflation at a record 17.5%.

The government has rationed energy due to rising fuel and electricity prices. Most households are without power for at least 10 hours per day, while Sri Lankans queue for hours or even days to get their fuel. More concerning is the fact that many families are struggling to buy food due to skyrocketing food costs.

Eight different spices are directly sourced from one farmer group in Kandy, Sri Lanka. This crisis has an immediate impact upon our partners with whom we have been working since 2015. We reached out to our farmer group immediately after the crisis hit and asked them how they could help. We found out that they have a development fund for dry rations to be purchased for employees and their families. These rations include rice, dhal and sugar as well as curry powders, curry mixes and potatoes. They also provide Soya meat packets, noodles and coconuts.

To support development, we have agreed to pay $8 per pack (2500 LKR). There are more than 1000 farmer members. Our founder will support the remainder of our goal, which is $3000 via Curio. We have the chance to support these people with your help.

We aim to raise at most $3000 for our farmers in Sri Lanka during Asian American Pacific Islander Month. You can help! We will donate all profits directly to the fund if you choose some spices from our Sri Lankan collection.
