There is no difference in cooking with whole spices and cooked with ground spices. After harvesting, all spices are ground. There is no quality difference.

But the price gap is significant. Whole spices cost more because of the labour involved in processing them. But the taste is worth it.

If you purchase whole spices in bulk, you might get an additional discount. If you buy a whole bag of cinnamon sticks, you may get a discount.

The same goes for nutmeg, cloves, ginger, cardamom, etc. If you purchase these spices in bulk, you may be able to save money.

Whole spices can also last longer than the ground spices. Because ground spices lose potency quickly from oxidation, this is why whole spices last longer than ground spices.

The main reason we recommend whole spices over dried is that they can add lots of flavor to recipes.

You can make delicious curry using whole turmeric, instead of ground turmeric. Or you can grind whole coriander seeds to create a spice blend for chicken dishes.

Additionally, spices need to be ground. If you're buying whole spices it makes sense for you to buy large quantities. So you don't run short of spices.

How to store cooking spice?

How to store cooking spices in a way that maximizes their performance. First, it is important to understand the science behind how foodstuffs are stored.

Because spice's flavour is diminished by light exposure, it should be stored in airtight containers. This is due oxygen reacting with organic compounds such that spices, causing oxidation.

To prevent oxidation, spices should be stored in dark cupboards. These conditions can cause spices to quickly lose their flavor.

The best way to preserve the flavour of spices is to keep them in airtight jars away from direct sunlight.

To make flavoured drinks, you can add herbs or spices to water. For example, mix two teaspoons of ground cinnamon with 1/2 cup of warm water and stir well. Serve immediately with a squeeze of lemon.

You can add dried herbs and spices to soups, stews, casseroles, pasta, rice dishes, salads, and desserts. Just sprinkle the spice mix evenly over the dish. Let it rest for 5-10 minutes before you serve.
