How to Store Your Spices?

Keep them out of the sun and heat.

To store spices for longer periods of time, place them in a dark cupboard. This will help preserve the spices and prevent oxidation.

Store your spices in a cool, dry area away from direct sunlight. You can lose the aroma and flavor of your spice if it is near a heater or window.

Spices should be stored in an airtight tin or glass jar. Avoid storing spices in plastic containers.

After opening the seal, make sure to inspect it again. Humidity can cause spoilage.

You don't have to throw out leftover spices. Use them instead by adding them into other dishes. They can be frozen to prolong their shelf-life.


What is the difference in curry and curried?

The spellings are the same. Both terms refer to the exact same thing: An Indian dish that combines meat and vegetables with different seasonings.

Curry is derived from the Hindi word kari, which means "to rub". This refers to the way the spice mixture is applied to the food. Curried foods are generally cooked until they become golden.

While curried dishes were once reserved only for special occasions they are now enjoyed regularly throughout India. They include chicken, beef and lamb as well as fish, vegetables and rice.

Curried dishes are typically served alongside plain white rice. You can also add raita (a yogurt sauce), or chutney (a sweet relish).

How to cut Shiitake Mushrooms

The shiitakes grow well. They are fine. However, how do you cut them without cutting yourself? We have tried every method, including using scissors. But they keep slipping out of our hands. Is there something wrong?

It's possible to do this by using a trick. To make the mushroom stem stick out, wrap a rubber band around it and twist it tightly. You won't slip or cut yourself.

This may seem too simple. Well, it is. However, it is also very efficient.

The rubber band makes your stem slippery and it feels very natural when you pick it it up. The stem can be held securely.

Go ahead, try it. You'll be amazed at how much easier it is to cut mushrooms now.
