Let’s show appreciation for those that dedicate their lives using natural deliciousness to establish meaningful human bonds through cuisine!

Spices can be a great way to engage your children in their senses. These ideas will help you put your spice cupboard to use and teach your kids something.
The Nose Knows Game

You will need 6-10 pure spices. Take one teaspoon of each spice from the cupboard. Then, put it in the spice container's lid. Have your partner hold the cap and guess what spice it might be.

Crush & Smell

Learn how to use the mortar and pestle! You should start with ALL spices such as cardamom pods, allspice berries and cardamom berries (my favorite!). or coriander seeds. Before you crush them, smell the spices! Talk about the things you notice. Next, start by breaking up the spice in an up-and down motion. Then use a circular motion that swirls and turns the spices. You can smell it again.

Mix 'em

A simple spice mix should contain no more than 3 spices and no more than 6. Before measuring each spice with a measuring spoon, smell it and then write down the amount you added. You might try 1 teaspoon ground ginger, 1 teaspoon ground cumin and 1 tablespoon turmeric. You can come up with some creative names for your mixture! What will you make with it?

Make Something Delicious

What will you make with your spice mixture? You should first taste it. Mix the spice mixture with some salt, and then sprinkle it on plain rice or pasta to taste it. Mix the mix with some potato and sea salt, and bake in the oven. You can also use it as a rub for chicken or to mix with oil and lemon juice to make a dressing. You'll be amazed at how the mix changes after it is cooked.
Crafty Spice

Is it time to get rid of all those unused spices in your spice cupboard? You can make some creative uses of them before you throw them away. You can use them like pigments by mixing some water with the powder and then painting on a piece paper. For yellow, turmeric is excellent, as well as paprika and hibiscus, for red, pink, and brown. You have some old herbs? Use a piece of newspaper and a glue stick to swirl glue all over the paper. Add the old spices, such as glitter, to make an "all natural" design.

Frequently Asked Questions

What mint is used for Thai food?

Lime-leaf mint (Mentha cervina) is the most commonly used type of mint in Thai cuisine.

It has a mild, citrusy flavour that gives dishes a freshness and zing. Thai dishes can also be enhanced by adding other spices such galangal or coriander to their flavour.

Mint is a versatile herb that can be used in both sweet as well as savoury meals. Using the right spices, herbs, and aromatics is essential to achieving delicious authentic Thai flavours.

next time you make a Thai dish, don't forget to include some lime-leaf mint for extra flavour!

Happy cooking!

What is the most popular ingredient in Thai cooking?

Two main ingredients are the heart of Thai cuisine: curry and rice. This is how you get an unforgettable flavor.

Thais call this combination "Khao pad Krai," which translates to "the best dish." This is because the two basic foods can be combined to create something truly delicious and irresistible.

This is true for all aspects of life. It is possible to achieve great success by combining the two key ingredients of hard work, perseverance, and determination.

As Khao Pad Krai did, passion and purpose can be combined to make you successful. Combine them and you will create something truly extraordinary.

When you are craving Thai food, don't forget to add rice and curry! Have fun with it!

How do I make Thai food at home using Thai spices?

To make authentic Thai food at home, you'll need to master five essential spices: black pepper, cayenne, coriander seeds, turmeric, and cinnamon. Each ingredient plays a crucial role in the creation delicious dishes.

Black pepper adds savoury flavours, while cinnamon adds sweetness. Curry powder gets its yellow hue from turmeric and coriander seeds. Cayenne peppers are hot, and cilantro adds freshness. The final touch is cinnamon which gives depth and complexity to any dish.

Each of these spices can be found at your local grocery, but you may prefer to buy them online.

What are the typical spices, condiments, and seasonings used in their dishes in Thailand?

Thai cuisine is a combination of influences from all over Asia. It is rooted in India and China along with Southeast Asia.

Freshness is the main ingredient in Thai cuisine. Fresh ingredients have more flavor when they are picked and prepared quickly. This is the reason meat, fish, fruits and vegetables are often eaten raw.

Spices and sauces enhance the flavor and complexity of dishes. Fresh basil, cilantro, mint, coriander (cilantro), lemongrass, ginger, turmeric, garlic, chillies, chilli paste, soy sauce, tamarind juice, oyster sauce, palm sugar, coconut milk, lime leaves, galangal root, curry powder, shrimp paste, fish sauce, tamarind water, rice vinegar, etc. These are often used.

What is the difference between curry and curried?

The spellings are the same. Both words refer to the same thing: an Indian dish combining meat or vegetables with various seasonings.

Curry is derived from the Hindi word kari, which means "to rub". This refers to the way the spice mixture is applied to the food. Curried foods are typically cooked until browned.

Curried dishes are no longer reserved for special occasions. They're now commonplace in India. These dishes can be chicken, beef (lamb), fish, or vegetables.

Curried dishes can be served alongside plain white or brown rice. Another common accompaniment is raita, a yogurt sauce, and chutney, a sweet relish.

How To

How to decide what spices to buy?

Cooking requires you to learn how to choose the right herbs for your recipes. There are many options available, so how do you choose which ones to add in your pantry?

There are three main factors to consider when choosing spices: flavour profile, shelf life, and cost. Depending on whether you are cooking meat, fish, vegetables or pasta, the flavour profiles of spices will vary. Once you've settled on a category, it's time to narrow down your choices.

Also, shelf lives can vary widely. Some spices keep forever, while some others are prone to deterioration quickly. Cayenne pepper has a long shelf life, while oregano is only good for two months. Then there's the price. Prices for spices range from $1 per teaspoon to more than $100 an ounce. This means you'll need to find a balance between value and quality.

Also, consider whether organic or not organic ingredients. Organic products are less chemically and pesticide-laden than other alternatives. They are better for your environment and health. These products can also be more costly so make sure to weigh the benefits against the costs.

Shopping online is the best way to ensure you pick the right spices for your kitchen. Online retailers provide detailed information on each product, including ingredient lists, pricing, reviews, and ratings.

Once you've narrowed down the list, it's possible to order directly from the retailer. Once you have received your items safely store them in an airtight container, away from heat & light.
