Scallops with Saffron Sauce - PoorMansGourmet

Elevating the everyday is our mission. At Belovedsaffron.com, we think the world deserves more than conventional cuisines — and more than take-out from chains. Our goal is to celebrate cultural flavours through spices, herbs and organic food from sustainable farming.

Saffron is our love affair; a culinary crescendo that evokes a warmth of its own. But cooking is so much more than a single ingredient — it’s also about respect. It’s about respecting people from different cultures who dedicate their lives to creating something extraordinary with every dish they serve; family meals or five-star restaurants alike.

And that’s why we’re inviting everyone to join us – to share their recipes, explore new flavors and be part of something special. We know everyone has something delicious to offer!

For now, love yourself and enjoy this one ...

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the uses of Thai spice?

We've all heard the term "Thai spice" thrown around without knowing exactly what it means. But once we start to feel the heat in our mouths, we wonder why it hasn't been eaten more.

It isn't just any spice. It's an essential ingredient that adds flavor and depth to dishes that would otherwise be bland.

Thousands of recipes call for Thai spices, but few of them include the real deal. Let's find out how to add these wonderful flavors to your dishes.

Thais have been using herbs and spices in their cooking since antiquity to add flavor to food. Thai is the Sanskrit word that means "to cook".

Most Thais like spicy food, even today. This preference is often due to the heat in Thailand which makes it difficult for people to stay warm without hot drinks. Thais are also more likely to consume chili peppers as compared to Americans or Europeans.

The best way to learn about Thai spices is to visit a local Asian grocery store. There, you'll find a wide variety of ingredients, including dried chilies, fresh basil leaves, curry paste, and even ground black pepper.

Also, you may find whole peppercorns.

Thai cuisine has two kinds of spices: wet and dry. Dry spices are generally ground, while wet spices can be crushed or pounded finely.

Dry spices can be added to any dish. Ground red pepper can be sprinkled on chicken soup, for example. In order to make a paste out of wet spices, oil or butter is often used.

Wet spices are usually used in marinades, sauces, and dressings. Fish sauce, oyster sauces, sesame and sesame olive oils, curry paste and hoisin are some of the most common wet spice options.

Thai recipes can be prepared at home by knowing which spices pair well with what ingredients.

Red pepper flakes are recommended for beef. Use white pepper if you are using seafood like shrimp.

Finally, you can always order online if you don't have access to a good quality Asian market. You will find everything from dried chilies to exotic herbs and spices here.

Next time you're hungry, try one of these delicious Thai recipes!

What are the seven Indian spices?

Indian spices refers to a variety of spices that are used in Indian cooking. They are usually made up of cardamoms, cumins, corianders, turmeric and fenugreek. The spices are used to enhance the flavour and aroma of foods by combining and complementing natural ingredients, such as meats or vegetables. Together, spices create unique flavour profiles that make Indian cooking so distinct.

Cardamom has a pungent, sweet taste with hints o citrus and ginger. It is commonly used to flavour rice dishes like biryani and curries. Cumin has a strong, earthy aroma as well as a rich and nuanced flavor. It is used to spice up curries, dals and meat dishes. Coriander has a sweet citrus aroma and adds a subtle nuttiness to dishes. It is often used in seasoning vegetables and lentils.

Turmeric is a spice that has an earthy flavor. It can be mixed with mustard, spices and pepper hints. This spice is commonly used in curries and other dishes and has a golden hue. Fenugreek is a spice with a rich aroma and earthy tones. It also has a bitter taste. It is often used as a seasoning for meat dishes like kebabs. It is spicy and pungent with citrus hints. It gives a great kick to soups, curries, and chutneys. Asafoetida (hing), has a strong flavor and pungent smell that can be used in place of onion and garlic in certain recipes.

These spices together create unique flavors that make Indian food so special.

What mint is used in Thai food?

The most common type of mint used in Thai cuisine is lime-leaf mint (Mentha Cervina).

It has a mild, citrusy flavour that gives dishes a freshness and zing. Thai dishes often include other spices such as galangal (lemongrass), garlic, and coriander.

Mint can be used in sweet or savoury dishes. To achieve authentic Thai flavours, it is important to use the right spices, herbs and aromatics.

Make a Thai dish next time and add some lime-leaf mint to give it extra flavor.

Happy cooking!

Does Thai use ginger?

The answer is yes. Traditional Thai cuisine uses ginger extensively. Ginger is often used in stir-fries and soups, as well as desserts and drinks, such as lassis.

Ginger is a common ginger plant in China, Japan, Korea, and elsewhere. Its origins can be traced back to more than 5,000years ago. It is believed to have originated in Southeast Asia, where it was cultivated for medicinal purposes.

Ginger is known for stimulating digestion and relieving nausea. It may even help prevent migraines. Ginger is also known to reduce muscle spasms and joint pains as well as treating arthritis.

In Thailand, ginger is most often used fresh. It is sliced into thin strips and then dried before being stored for later use. In Asian markets, you can purchase ginger root in cans or in jars.

Can you spice up a drink?

I love spices adding flavour to food. But how do you make spices liven up when they are added to drinks?

Spices add a wonderful depth to any beverage. There's nothing better than adding cinnamon or nutmeg in your glass of wine or beer, whether it's coffee, tea, hot chocolate, or cocktails.

But most recipes call for ground spices, meaning you'll need fresh whole spices. While this makes sense, it is costly, takes time and requires storage space.

Here's where the magic happens. You can transform your favourite spices into an easy-to-use powdered form with ingenuity. To make tasty spiced drinks, you can combine them with your favourite beverages.

There are two possible ways to create these powders. One method involves grinding whole spices to a fine powder. A mortar and pestle is another method to grind the spices to a finer consistency.

It doesn't matter what method you choose, the result is easier to measure out than whole spices and easier to store. Powder keeps well, so you will never run out.

Mixing different spices can create new flavors. For example, you could combine peppermint and spearmint leaves to make minty water. You can also make spicy ginger-ginger tea by combining ginger and cardamom seeds.

Once you are proficient in making powdered spice, you can also apply this technique to herbs. Oregano and rosemary are all popular herbs.

There are so many possibilities. Powdered spices can be used to add flavour to beverages or enhance the flavor of dishes like soups, salads and pasta.

How to cut Shiitake Mushrooms

So the shiitakes have been doing well. There is nothing wrong with them. However, how do you cut them without cutting yourself? We have tried every method, including using scissors. But they keep falling out our hands. What's the matter?

The trick is simple. To make the mushroom stem stick out, wrap a rubber band around it and twist it tightly. That way, you won't slip and cut yourself.

You may think it sounds too easy. It is. But it's also very useful.

The rubber band makes the stem slippery, so it feels natural when you pick it up. It's a good idea to secure the stem.

Go ahead, try it. You'll be amazed how easy it is to cut mushrooms.
