Almond Meal vs. Almond Flour: What's the Difference?

An almond meal can be used as an alternative to almond flour. It can also be used in cooking and baking.

Almond flour may also contain gluten, making it difficult to digest. If you have celiac disease or another digestive disorder, it's essential to avoid gluten-free foods.

Almond flour isn’t considered a superfood per se but it does contain healthy fats, fibre and protein and no cholesterol.

The almond meal provides nutritional benefits such as magnesium, iron, zinc and manganese. It also contains vitamin A, B1 (thiamin), C, and folate.

Almond flour is high in antioxidants including phenolics, flavonoids, and proanthocyanidins. These compounds help to prevent oxidative damage from free radicals.

In a study published in Journal of Agricultural Food Chemistry, almond flour was found to have an antioxidant activity comparable to blueberries, cranberries or pomegranates and red wine grapes juice.

Almond flour can be purchased with almond milk that has been supplemented with nutrients.


What's the difference in cooking with whole vs. ground spices? Ground Spices?

There are no significant differences in the cooking of whole and ground spices. All spices are ground after harvesting. It doesn't make a difference in terms of quality.

However, the price difference is substantial. Because of the labor involved in making whole spices, they cost more. The flavor is well worth the effort.

Bulk purchases of whole spices can often get you additional discounts. You might get a discount if your entire bag is of cinnamon sticks.

The same applies to nutmeg and cloves, ginger or cardamom. These spices can be purchased in bulk to save money.

Whole spices can also last longer than the ground spices. Ground spices lose their potency very quickly due to oxidation.

But the main reason why we recommend purchasing whole spices is that they add a lot of character to recipes.

You can make a delicious curry by using whole turmeric in place of ground turmeric. To make a spice mixture for chicken dishes, you can grind whole coriander seed.

Grinding spices takes time. A large amount of whole spices is a good idea. So you don't run short of spices.


What is the difference between curry and curried?

There is no difference between the spellings. Both words mean the same thing: Indian cuisine that includes meat and vegetables mixed with different seasonings.

Curry is derived in Hindi from kari, which means to rub. This refers the way that the spice mix is applied onto the food. Curry foods are usually cooked until golden brown.

While curried dishes were once reserved only for special occasions they are now enjoyed regularly throughout India. They can include chicken, beef, lamb, fish, vegetables, and rice.

Plain white rice is often served with curried dishes. Another common accompaniment is raita, a yogurt sauce, and chutney, a sweet relish.
