Frequently Asked Questions

Is Thai cuisine made with garlic?

Thai cuisine includes garlic. Garlic is used in Thai cuisine as an ingredient in salads, soups and stir-fries.

In Thailand, garlic is chopped and fried with shallots, ginger, and spices. It is also often eaten with sticky rice.

The most common way to eat garlic is to chop it finely and mix it with chilli paste, salt, fish sauce, lime juice, and oil. This is known as "Nam Phrik", or namphrik. Nam phrik often comes with grilled chicken breast or beef.

Does Thai use ginger?

Yes. The traditional Thai cooking uses ginger heavily. Ginger is often used to make stir-fries and soups. It is also used in desserts, drinks, such a lassis.

Ginger is a native of China, Japan, Korea and other Asian countries. Its origins go back over 5,000 years. It is believed to have originated in Southeast Asia, where it was cultivated for medicinal purposes.

Ginger is well-known for its ability to relieve nausea and stimulate digestion. It may even help prevent migraines. Ginger also helps to relieve muscle spasms, reduce joint pain, and treat arthritis.

Ginger is often eaten fresh in Thailand. The ginger root is cut into thin strips, dried and stored in a sealed container for future use. You can buy ginger root in jars or cans from Asian markets.

What's the Difference Between Cooking With Whole vs. Ground Spices?

There is no difference between cooking whole spices and with ground spices. After harvesting, all spices are ground. So there is no difference in quality.

However, the price difference is substantial. Whole spices cost more because of the labour involved in processing them. The flavor is well worth the effort.

Bulk purchases of whole spices can often get you additional discounts. If you buy a whole bag of cinnamon sticks, you may get a discount.

This is true for cloves, ginger and cardamom. You might be able to save money by buying these spices in bulk.

Ground spices don't last as long as whole spices. Ground spices lose their potency rapidly due to oxygenation.

But the main reason why we recommend purchasing whole spices is that they add a lot of character to recipes.

You can make a delicious curry by using whole turmeric in place of ground turmeric. Or you can grind whole coriander seeds to create a spice blend for chicken dishes.

Grinding spices takes time. It is sensible to purchase large quantities when buying whole spices. That way, you won't run out of spices too fast.

What are the main spices, condiments, seasonings and herbs used in Thai cuisine?

Thai cuisine is an amalgamation of influences from across Asia. Its roots are found in India and China, as well as Southeast Asia.

Freshness is the key ingredient in Thai cuisine. Fresh ingredients have more flavor when they are picked and prepared quickly. This is why meats and fish, as well as vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds and grains, are often eaten raw and served warm.

Sauces and spices add depth and flavor to dishes. Fresh basil, cilantro, mint, coriander (cilantro), lemongrass, ginger, turmeric, garlic, chillies, chilli paste, soy sauce, tamarind juice, oyster sauce, palm sugar, coconut milk, lime leaves, galangal root, curry powder, shrimp paste, fish sauce, tamarind water, rice vinegar, etc. These ingredients are common.

How To

How to cut Shiitake Mushrooms

So, the shiitakes are growing well. You can't go wrong with them. They are fine. But how can we make them cut without hurting ourselves? We have tried every method, including using scissors. But they just keep slipping from our hands. What's the matter?

You have a trick. You must put a rubber band around the mushroom's stem and twist it tight. You won't slip, and you won't be cut.

It may sound too simple. It is. But it's also very useful.

The rubber band makes the stem slippery, so it feels natural when you pick it up. You can also hold the stem tight.

Do it! It's so easy to chop mushrooms now.
