Frequently Asked Questions

What's the Difference Between Cooking With Whole vs. Ground Spices?

There isn't any difference between cooking with whole spices and ground spices. All spices are ground after harvesting. There is no quality difference.

But the price gap is significant. Whole spices are more expensive because of the labor required to process them. But the taste is worth it.

If you purchase whole spices in bulk, you might get an additional discount. For example, you might receive a discount if you buy an entire bag of cinnamon sticks.

The same is true for nutmeg cloves ginger, cardamom, and ginger. You might be able to save money by buying these spices in bulk.

Ground spices are also more durable than whole spices. Ground spices quickly lose their potency due to oxidation.

However, the main reason we recommend whole spices is because they add character to recipes.

For instance, you can make a delicious curry with whole turmeric instead of ground turmeric. To make a spice mixture for chicken dishes, you can grind whole coriander seed.

Grinding spices takes time. If you're buying whole spices it makes sense for you to buy large quantities. You won't run low on spices if you buy large quantities.

What are some of the best Thai spices you can find?

Galangal, galangal, coriander, turmeric, ginger, cinnamon and clove are the best Thai herbs. Cayenne pepper and clove are also good spices.

Other valuable spices include bay leaves, curry, pandan, curry leaves. Kaffir lime leaves. Vanilla beans. Tamarind pods. Lemon grass. Basil.

What Herbs or Spices go Best with Potatoes

A potato is a delicious side dish for almost all meats. If you've been cooking potatoes lately, you may already know there are more ways to serve them than simply mashed.

These versatile vegetables are delicious additions to any meal, from salads to casseroles to soups to pasta dishes. Did you know that potatoes can be paired with many spices and herbs?

Spice up your following potato recipe with these delicious recipes.

What is the significance of spices?

Spices are seasonings that enhance the flavour of food. There are many types of spices, including powders, liquids and oils. They can also be called condiments or flavours.

You can spice up meals to make them more interesting. You can spice up dishes with many different spices for more flavor and excitement.

You may find that adding a few drops of hot pepper sauce to a bowl of soup will make it taste more delicious. Or perhaps you could mix a handful of cayenne peppers with a cup of rice.

Fresh ingredients are the best way to try new spicing techniques. Buy organic dried herbs. Fresh herbs will last longer than dried.

Although some spices are essential to cooking, there are others that you might prefer not to use. Cinnamon sticks have high levels of coumarin. They should not be consumed if you have had liver disease in the past. Ginger also contains some coumarin but it is less concentrated. It's safe for those without any history of liver problems.

How To

Do You Know How to Make Curry Paste?

Curry paste uses dried chillies, shallots, galangal root, lemongrass, kaffir lime leaf, garlic, shrimp paste, sugar, salt, and sometimes coconut milk. It is used extensively in Thai cuisine.

One of the most widely used condiments in Southeast Asia is curry paste. Curry paste adds a distinctive flavour to many dishes such as curries and soups, stir fries, stir-fries or rice dishes.

It is easy to make your own at-home recipes! Follow our step by step guide below.

Step1 - Prepare Ingredients

  • Before you start this recipe, make sure that all ingredients are prepared.
  • First, peel and chop shallots (2 cups). Next, chop galangal root into small pieces (3 inches in length) and place aside.
  • Next, you will need to peel and slice the garlic cloves (about 4 cloves). The lemongrass stems should be roughly 1/2 inch thick.
  • You can then crush the red chilli bell peppers into small pieces (about 4 tablespoons), and then you can remove the seeds (optional).
  • Cut the kaffirlime leaves into small strips, approximately 5 inches in length. Take out the white part and place it in a bowl.
  • Next, drain and wash the shrimp paste (6 ounces), and then coarsely mashing it.
  • Finally, measure out sugar and salt.

Step2 - Grind Ingredients

  • Blend all ingredients together until smooth.
  • The texture should look similar to peanut-butter.
  • Take note: If you are looking to reduce oil in your dish you can add water to the mix.

Step3 - Add Coconut Milk

  • Add coconut milk to the mixture, and mix well.
  • Add coconut milk slowly so that the paste does not become too sticky.
  • If you prefer less spicy, add fewer chillies and more galangal root.
  • You may prefer it hotter, so add more chilies or less galangalroot. The final product should be tasty to you.

Step4 - Serve

  • Top your favorite foods with this topping.
  • Enjoy!
