Frequently Asked Questions

What is the importance of spices?

A spice can be described as a seasoning to enhance flavour in food. Spices come in various forms, such as powders, liquids, gums, oils, pastes, and seeds. They are also known for their versatility and ability to be used as flavours and condiments.

You can spice up meals to make them more interesting. To add more flavour and excitement to dishes, many spices can be used.

Perhaps a little hot pepper sauce will enhance the flavor of your soup. Mixing a couple of cayenne peppers in a cup rice can make it even more delicious.

You can experiment with spice recipes best if you use fresh ingredients. If you buy dried herbs, look for those that are organic. Fresh herbs are more durable than dried herbs.

While some spices are essential for cooking, others might be better to avoid. If you have a history or liver disease, cinnamon sticks can be dangerous. Although ginger also contains coumarin it is much less concentrated. People who do not have any liver problems are safe.

What spices are used for Thai cooking?

Thai cuisine is well-known for its rich flavour profiles. These delicious flavours are made from unique and flavorful ingredients that make many delicious dishes.

Thai cuisine uses common ingredients such as galangal (lemongrass), kaffir lime leaves and chillies.

Each spice contributes to Thai cuisine's distinctive flavour profile. It is used often in soups and curries; galangal lends a slightly peppery taste to dishes; chillies add a spicy kick; garlic gives dishes an umami depth; shrimp paste adds a subtle, but fragrant, aroma to dishes; coriander brings out a mild, yet pleasant aroma to dishes; cumin adds a smoky flavor to dishes; and turmeric gives food a vivid yellow color.

These spices create complex flavour profiles that are unique to Thai cuisine. A combination of spices can be used to create both aromatic and flavorful dishes. Stock up on these spices if you want to incorporate the Thai flavours into your cooking.

It is easy to make your own at-home recipes! Follow our step-by–step guide below.

  • Begin by peeling and cutting shallots into small pieces (about 2 cups). Next, cut galangal root into small chunks (about 3 inches) and put aside.
  • Next, remove and cut the cloves of garlic (about four cloves). The lemongrass stems should be roughly 1/2 inch thick.
  • You can then crush the red chilli bell peppers into small pieces (about 4 tablespoons), and then you can remove the seeds (optional).
  • Next, cut kaffir lime leaves into thin strips (about 5 inches long). Set aside the white portion of the stem.
  • Next, drain and wash the shrimp paste (6 ounces), and then coarsely mashing it.
  • Finally, measure out sugar and salt.

Step2 - Grind Ingredients

  • Combine all ingredients and blend until smooth.
  • It should have a texture similar to peanut butter.

Step3 - Add Coconut Milk

  • Mix the coconut milk into the mixture.
