Frequently Asked Questions

What are the seven Indian spices?

Indian spices refers to a variety of spices that are used in Indian cooking. These spices include cumin, cardamom and coriander as well as turmeric, fenugreek and ginger. The spices are used to enhance the flavour and aroma of foods by combining and complementing natural ingredients, such as meats or vegetables. Together, spices create unique flavour profiles that make Indian cooking so distinct.

Cardamom's sweet, pungent flavor is balanced with ginger and citrus notes. It is often used to flavour curries and rice dishes like biryani. Cumin has an earthy aroma and a rich, nutty flavour. It is often added to dals, curries, and meat dishes. Coriander gives dishes a mild nuttiness due to its sweet citrus aroma. It is used to season lentils and vegetables.

Turmeric has an earthy taste with mustard, spices, hints of pepper. This spice is used in many dishes, including curries. It has a golden colour. Fenugreek possesses a rich, earthy scent, slightly bitter flavour, and earthy tone tones. It is often used as a seasoning for meat dishes like kebabs. Ginger is spicy and pungent, with hints citrus. It adds the perfect kick to dishes such as curries, chutneys, and soups. Asafoetida or hing has a pungent scent and strong taste that can replace onion and garlic for some recipes.

These spices are a unique combination that creates Indian cuisine.

What is the Thai use for mint?

The most common type of mint used in Thai cuisine is lime-leaf mint (Mentha Cervina).

It is mild and lemony in flavour, which adds freshness as well as zing to dishes. Thai dishes are enhanced with other spices, such as galangal and coriander.

Mint is a versatile herb that can be used in both sweet as well as savoury meals. It is crucial to use authentic Thai flavors by using the right spices, herbs, aromatics.

For extra flavor, make sure to add lime-leaf mint next time you prepare a Thai meal!

Happy cooking!

Does Thai use ginger?

The answer is yes. Ginger is used extensively in traditional Thai cooking. It is often added to stir-fries and soups and is also commonly used in desserts and drinks such as lassis.

Ginger is a common ginger plant in China, Japan, Korea, and elsewhere. Its origins can be traced back to more than 5,000years ago. It is believed it originated in Southeast Asia. There, it was used for medicinal purposes.

Ginger is known to stimulate digestion and relieve nausea. It may even help prevent migraines. In addition, ginger aids in reducing muscle spasms, relieving joint pains, and treating arthritis.

Ginger is often fresh in Thailand. It is then cut into thin strips and dried. You can buy ginger root in jars or cans from Asian markets.

Can garlic be used in Thai cooking

Thai cuisine often uses garlic. Garlic is often used to make Thai dishes, including salads and soups, stir-fries and curries, as well as sauces and sauces.

In Thailand, garlic is chopped and fried with shallots, ginger, and spices. Also, you can eat it with sticky white rice.

Garlic is best chopped finely and mixed with oil, chilli paste, fish sauce, lime juice and oil. This is known as "Nam Phrik", or namphrik. Nam phrik is often accompanied by grilled chicken or beef.

How to Store Your Spices?

Keep them away from heat and light.

If you want to keep spices fresh for a long time, place them into a dark cupboard. This will preserve them and prevent any oxidation.

Keep your spices out of direct sunlight and in a cool dry place. The spice may lose flavour and aroma if placed near a window or heater.

Spices are best stored in an airtight glass jar or tin. Avoid storing spices in plastic containers.

After opening the seal, make sure to inspect it again. Humidity can cause spoilage.

Don't toss out any leftover spices. Don't throw them away, instead use them in new recipes. To prolong their shelf life you can freeze them.

What are the 11 Indian spices used in Indian cooking

Indian cuisine is made up of eleven spices: coriander seeds; cumin seeds; fennel and mustard seeds; nigella and black pepper; cloves, cinnamon sticks; dry red chili powder; turmeric and cardamom.

These ingredients can be found used in almost every recipe. These spices are used in almost every dish, including curries, curries, chutneys (pickles), rice, bread and sweets.

Spices are also important for health reasons. For example, turmeric helps fight cancer cells. Cloves protect against bad breath. Black pepper helps lower cholesterol levels. Cinnamon lowers blood pressure. And ginger aids digestion.

A spice rack is a fantastic kitchen tool that allows you experiment with different combinations. You can make your spice mix or buy ready-made blends that contain many of the essential spices.

Some people are against adding spices to their food. Some people believe spices can only mask the natural flavor of food and don't improve it. However, adding a pinch of salt or pepper is no harm in enhancing the flavor of your meals.

Most chefs agree that spices form an integral part of good culinary art. Many dishes would lack flavor and be boring without them. You might be inspired to try something new next time you feel adventurous.

How To

Are you a master of making curry paste?

Curry paste contains dried chillies and shallots, galangal roots, lemongrass (kaffir lime leaf), garlic, shrimp paste, sugar and salt. It's a common ingredient in Thai cuisine.

One of the most widely used condiments in Southeast Asia is curry paste. Curry paste can add a distinct flavour to many dishes like curries.

It's not difficult to make at home! Follow our step by step guide below.

Step1 - Prepare Ingredients

  • Before you start this recipe, make sure that all ingredients are prepared.
  • First, peel and chop shallots (2 cups). Next, cut galangal root into small chunks (about 3 inches) and put aside.
  • Next, cut four garlic cloves into pieces. Lemongrass stems about 1/2 inch thick should be removed and finely chopped.
  • Next, crush the dried red chilli peppers (4 tablespoons) and then remove the seeds (optional).
  • Cut the kaffirlime leaves into small strips, approximately 5 inches in length. Next, remove the white part from the stem and leave it alone.
  • Once the shrimp paste has been drained, rinse it and then coarsely crush it.
  • Finally, measure out sugar and salt.

Step2 - Grind Ingredients

  • Blend all ingredients together until smooth.
  • The texture should be very similar to peanut butter.
  • Not to worry if the dish contains too much oil, you can use water to replace it.

Step3 - Add Coconut Milk

  • Mix the coconut milk into the mixture.
  • To prevent the coconut milk from becoming too sticky, slowly add it.
  • If you prefer less spicy, add fewer chillies and more galangal root.
  • If you prefer it spicy, add more chillies or less galangal roots. You should enjoy the final product.

Step4: Serve

  • Serve with your favourite foods.
  • Enjoy!
