Frequently Asked Questions
What are the uses of Thai spice?
We all have heard the term Thai spices, but we don't understand what it really means. But once we start to feel the heat in our mouths, we wonder why it hasn't been eaten more.
It's more than just a spice. It is an important ingredient that gives flavor and depth to bland dishes.
Many recipes call for Thai spice, but only a few have the actual thing. So let's help you figure out how to ensure you're adding these delicious flavors to your meals.
Thais have used herbs and spices since ancient times to enhance food and drink. Thai is the Sanskrit word that means "to cook".
Even today, most Thais prefer to eat spicy foods. This preference can be attributed to Thailand’s hot weather. It is difficult to stay warm when you don't have something to drink. Thais are also more likely to consume chili peppers as compared to Americans or Europeans.
Visit a local Asian grocery shop to find out more about Thai spices. There are many options available, including dried chilies as well as fresh basil leaves and curry paste.
Also, you may find whole peppercorns.
Thai cuisine can use either dry or wet spices. Most Thai cuisine uses dry spices, which are ground and pulverized finely.
Dry spices are usually added to a dish. Ground red pepper can be sprinkled on chicken soup, for example. A paste is made by combining wet spices and oil with butter or butter.
Wet spices are usually used in marinades, sauces, and dressings. Common wet spices include oyster sauce, fish sauce and sesame oils, curry paste, hoisin sauce, and sesame seed oil.
If you want to try making Thai dishes at home, you need to know which spices go well with certain ingredients.
Red pepper flakes should be used if you're using beef. Use white pepper if you are using seafood like shrimp.
You can also order online if your Asian market is not available. This market has everything you need, including dried chilies as well as exotic herbs and spices.

What are the principal Flavours in Thai Cuisine?
Thai cuisine includes several distinct regional cuisines. These include Northern Thai food, Central Thai food, Southern Thai food, Eastern Thai food, Western Thai food, and Northeastern Thai. Each region has its own unique flavour profile.
Thai food can be described as sweet, salty or sour.
Thais love sweetness because it makes their dishes more delicious. Thai cuisine is rich in sweet ingredients like coconut milk and palm sugar (gula melanka).
Thailand is also known for its sourness. Hot dishes are often served with sour foods. This helps to balance the heat.
Thai food is not complete without spicy food. Thai cuisine is rich in spices like galangal, ginger root and chilli pepper.
What's the difference between curried and curry?
There is no difference in spelling. Both words refer the same thing: Indian food that uses meats and vegetables along with different seasonings.
Curry comes from Hindi word kari that means "to rub". It refers how spice mixtures are applied to food. Curry foods are usually cooked until golden brown.
While curried dishes were once reserved only for special occasions they are now enjoyed regularly throughout India. They can be made with chicken, beef or lamb and include vegetables as well.
Curried dishes are typically served alongside plain white rice. Other common accompaniments include raita (a yogurt sauce) and chutney (a sweet relish).
