Frequently Asked Questions

What's the importance of spices in your life?

A spice can be described as a seasoning to enhance flavour in food. Spices come in various forms, such as powders, liquids, gums, oils, pastes, and seeds. They can also be known as condiments, flavours, and flavor.

You can spice up meals to make them more interesting. To add more flavour and excitement to dishes, many spices can be used.

Hot pepper sauce may make soup taste better. You could also add a few cayenne peppers to a cup of rice.

Fresh ingredients are best for experimenting with spicing. When you are buying dried herbs, make sure they are organic. Fresh herbs can last for longer than dried.

There are certain spices that are essential for cooking. But there are also some you might want to avoid. Cinnamon sticks contain high amounts of coumarin, so they should not be eaten if you have a history of liver disease. Ginger also contains coumarin, but it's much less concentrated. It's safe for people who don't have a history of liver problems.

What is the difference between cooking with whole spices and using ground spices? Ground Spices?

There is no difference between cooking whole spices and with ground spices. All spices are ground after harvesting. There is no quality difference.

However, the price differences are significant. Whole spices are more expensive because of the labor required to process them. But the taste is worth it.

If you purchase whole spices in bulk, you might get an additional discount. A whole bag of cinnamon sticks might be eligible for a discount.

The same goes for nutmeg, cloves, ginger, cardamom, etc. You might be able to save money by buying these spices in bulk.

Whole spices can also last longer than the ground spices. Because ground spices lose potency quickly from oxidation, this is why whole spices last longer than ground spices.

The main reason we recommend whole spices over dried is that they can add lots of flavor to recipes.

For instance, you can make a delicious curry with whole turmeric instead of ground turmeric. For chicken dishes, whole coriander seeds can be ground to make a spice blend.

The process of grinding spices takes a lot of time. When you buy whole spices, it makes sense to buy a large quantity. So you don't run short of spices.

What kind of mint are used in Thai cuisine?

Lime-leaf mint (Mentha cervina) is the most commonly used type of mint in Thai cuisine.

It has a mild, lemony flavour that adds freshness and zing to dishes. To enhance Thai cuisine's flavour, other spices like galangal, coriander, lemongrass and garlic are often added.

Mint is a versatile herb and can be used in both sweet and savoury recipes. To achieve authentic Thai flavours, it is important to use the right spices, herbs and aromatics.

Make a Thai dish next time and add some lime-leaf mint to give it extra flavor.

Happy cooking!

How to store your spices?

Keep them in an airtight, dry container away from heat or light.

To store spices for longer periods of time, place them in a dark cupboard. This will help preserve the spices and prevent oxidation.

Your spices should be kept in cool and dry areas, away from direct sunlight. It is possible for the spice to lose its flavor and aroma if it's placed in close proximity to a window or heater.

Spices need to be kept in an airtight glass container or tin. You should ensure that the containers are not moistened if you store them in plastic containers.

After opening the seal, make sure to inspect it again. Humidity can cause spoilage.

If you have leftover spices, don't throw them away. Instead, use them up by adding them to other dishes. You can even freeze them to extend their shelf life.

How To

How to Make A Garlic Press

A garlic presse is an indispensable tool for home chefs. This allows you to quickly mince garlic and make smooth sauces, soups, and salad dressings. You can also crush whole garlic cloves to make buttery spreads or garlic seasonings.

If you don't yet have a garlic presse, you may be wondering where to get one. These tips will help you get started.

First things first: you'll need a large bowl. Place the bowl under the pressure regulator and pour the crushed garlic inside. Now, adjust the pressure regulator valve until it reaches maximum.

Next, turn the handle counterclockwise until you hear a click. The top end of the press should lift and reveal a flat area that allows you to slide your blade back and forth across the bowl. Keep turning the handle clockwise until you reach the end of the blades.

Finally, remove the pressed garlic.

Here are some more ways to use this versatile instrument:

  • Make minced garlic soups, sauces for salads, dips and seasonings.
  • Use the press to crush whole garlic cloves into a buttery spread
  • Place whole garlic cloves in a pizza dough and crush them before baking
  • Roasted garlic can be incorporated into creamy polenta or mashed potatoes.
  • Use the press for homemade pesto
  • Blend garlic to make a smooth vinaigrette
