Frequently Asked Questions

What is the value of spices?

Spices are seasonings that enhance the flavour of food. Spices can be powdered, liquids or oils. They can also be known as condiments, flavours, and flavor.

It's a great way of adding variety to your meals by spiceing them up. Many spices can be added for additional flavor and excitement.

You may find that adding a few drops of hot pepper sauce to a bowl of soup will make it taste more delicious. Or perhaps you could mix a handful of cayenne peppers with a cup of rice.

The best way to experiment with spicing recipes is to use fresh ingredients. Buy organic dried herbs. Fresh herbs keep longer than dried ones.

While some spices are essential for cooking, others might be better to avoid. Cinnamon sticks have high levels of coumarin. They should not be consumed if you have had liver disease in the past. Although ginger also contains coumarin it is much less concentrated. It is safe for those who have not had liver problems in the past.

What kind of mint are used in Thai cuisine?

Thai cuisine's most used type is lime-leaf, or Mentha cervina.

It is mild and lemony in flavour, which adds freshness as well as zing to dishes. Thai dishes are enhanced with other spices, such as galangal and coriander.

Mint is a versatile herb that can be used in both sweet as well as savoury meals. To achieve authentic Thai flavours, it is important to use the right spices, herbs and aromatics.

Make a Thai dish next time and add some lime-leaf mint to give it extra flavor.

Happy cooking!

What is the most recognizable ingredient in Thai food?

Thailand's main ingredients for all dishes are rice and curry. This combination creates an unforgettable taste.

Thais call this combination "Khao pad Krai," which translates to "the best dish." This is because the two basic foods can be combined to create something truly delicious and irresistible.

It's the same for your life. Combining hard work and perseverance can lead to great success.

The right ingredients can make you successful, like Khao Pad Krai: passion and purpose. You'll create something amazing if you combine them.

Remember that Thai food doesn't just require rice and curry. Next time you feel the urge to eat Thai food, think about how much more it can be than just rice. Try out other ingredients and have fun!

What are some of the best Thai spices you can find?

The best Thai spices include lemongrass, galangal, coriander, turmeric, cinnamon, and ginger. Other good spices include clove, cardamom and black peppercorn as well as cloves, star anise and cloves.

Some other valuable spices include rose petals, bay leaves, curry leaves, pandan leaves, kaffir lime leaves, vanilla beans, tamarind pods, lemon grass, basil, and mint.

Does Thai use ginger?

The answer is yes. Ginger is used extensively in traditional Thai cooking. It is often added to stir-fries and soups and is also commonly used in desserts and drinks such as lassis.

Ginger is a common ginger plant in China, Japan, Korea, and elsewhere. Its origins can be traced back to more than 5,000years ago. It is thought that it originated in Southeast Asia, where its medicinal uses were cultivated.

Ginger is known for stimulating digestion and relieving nausea. It may even help prevent migraines. Ginger aids in relieving muscle spasms and joint pains. It can also treat arthritis.

Ginger is often fresh in Thailand. It is sliced into thin strips and then dried before being stored for later use. In Asian markets, you can purchase ginger root in cans or in jars.

Almond Flour or Almond Meal? What is the difference?

As an almond flour alternative, an almond meal is more versatile because it can be used for baking, cooking, and even making nut-free dishes.

Almond flour could also contain gluten making it difficult for some people to digest. It's important to avoid gluten-free diets if your condition is celiac.

Almond flour isn't considered "superfood", but it is high in healthy fats, fibres, protein, vitamin E, and sodium.

The nutritional benefits of almond meal include magnesium and copper, iron and zinc, manganese as well as potassium and vitamin C.

Because it's made from almonds, almond flour contains monounsaturated fatty acids, while almond oil contains polyunsaturated fatty acids. Both help to lower LDL (bad), and increase HDL levels.

Almond flour is high in antioxidants including phenolics, flavonoids, and proanthocyanidins. These compounds protect against oxidative damage caused by free radicals.

A study published by the Journal of Agricultural Food Chemistry revealed that almond flour had an antioxidant activity equal to that of blueberries.

Almond flour is typically sold along with almond milk, which is fortified to add additional nutrients.

How to store cooking spice?

I'll show you how to store spices properly for best results. We must first understand the science behind food storage.

Because light can diminish the flavour of spices, they should be kept in sealed containers. This is due oxygen reacting with organic compounds such that spices, causing oxidation.

To avoid oxidation, spice should be kept in dark cupboards. If these conditions are not met, spices will quickly lose their flavour.

Keep spices fresh by storing them in airtight jars out of direct sunlight.

To create a flavorful drink, you can add spices and herbs to water. Mix 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon with 1/2 cup of warm liquid and stir. Add a squeezed lemon juice and serve immediately.

Dried herbs and spices can be added to soups and stews, casseroles and rice dishes. Sprinkle the spice mixture evenly on the dish, and let it sit for five to ten minutes before you serve.

If you have leftover cooked vegetables, fruit, meats, poultry, fish, shellfish, eggs, cheese, bread, crackers, cookies, cakes, pies, or puddings, they can be added to your favourite recipes as snacks.

For the best flavor of fresh herbs, you can chop them up or tear them apart and then add them to your favorite foods. It is also possible to freeze herbs and spices in muffin cups or ice cube trays. Transfer frozen items to zip-top or freezer bags.
