There are two ways to season meat for grilling. One is called a wet or dry rub. This mouth-watering article will tell you everything you need to know or want about seasoning grilling with these two different methods. Both seasoning methods produce delicious meats, whether it's ribs or chicken wings.

What is the difference between Wet Rub and Dry Rub?

It is easy to tell the difference between them based on their simple names. Dry rubs are made with only dry ingredients, such as powdered herbs and spices. A wet rub, on the other hand can include many of the same seasonings that are used in a dry rub. Wet ingredients such as vinegar or oil are what set a wet blend apart from a traditional dry rub.

Most people will always have their favorite side, but others are able to appreciate both sides. As someone who enjoys cooking, grilling and tasting new foods, I have to say that I like both. They both add a mouthful flavor to the plate.

Let's talk about what makes each method of seasoning the meat for the grill so special. The two methods of seasoning the meat each bring their own delicious and unique flavors to your plate. What makes them different?

Wet Rub Ingredients

Beer, olive oil and vinegar are common ingredients in wet rubs. Brown sugar, black pepper, and brown sugar can also be used. Let's be clear about one thing: wet rubs and liquid marinades are two different things. Wet rubs should be paste-like in consistency to allow them to adhere to your ribs, or any other meat that you are grilling this summer.

It's best when using a moist rub to apply it generously and then cook it slowly. Slow cooking meat is the key to getting it as flavorful and tender as possible. Wet rubs for grilling allow the meat to absorb the moisture of the wet ingredients in the rub while simultaneously charring its outside. This creates a unique texture mix.

Dry Rub Ingredients

Garlic powder, onion, black pepper, sugar and cayenne pepper are some of the most commonly used ingredients. Many dry rub recipes use paprika as a base. A dry rub usually contains at least six different herbs and spices, and sometimes as many as 10. Dry rubs create a crispy, savory crust that enhances the taste of meat without adding any additional moisture. This is great for grilling meats like ribs, or any other meat that you need to cook quickly. It also works well on meats which are difficult to tenderize. This is a great way to preserve the natural flavor of meat while adding a little extra.

How to Use Wet Rubs & Dry Rubs

There are several factors to consider when choosing the type of rub you will use to season meat. If you are in a rush to grill some meat, you should choose a dry rub. However, if there is time to use a moist rub and you want meat that falls off the bone, you will need to select a moist rub.

Wet Rubs

You want to cover the meat completely with a wet-rub when preparing ribs, or any other meat for grilling. You can use plastic wrap or a container made of plastic and let it rest in the refrigerator for an hour. Keep the grill vent and grill cover mostly closed once the meat is on the grill. The moisture will remain around the meat as it grills. When it comes time to flip the meat, apply generously more wet rub. The wet rub will create a dark, firm outer layer of the meat when smoked or slowly cooked. Aromas, moisture and flavors will be absorbed by the meat. Keep the temperature of your grill lower if you're using a wet rub that contains a lot of sugar. Examples include honey, beer or molasses. You need a low heat to caramelize sugars and brown meat.

Dry Rubs

You can use plastic or rubber gloves to apply the dry rub. The longer you let the dry rub sit on meat, the deeper the spices' flavors will penetrate. Make sure that your grill is hot enough to give your meat a crispy, savory crust. You can move the grates closer to the coals if you are using a charcoal barbecue. You can use wood chips to raise the temperature. Charcoal from hardwood will produce a hotter heat. A hot surface for cooking will quickly sear in the dry rub. This will cause the dry rub to darken and possibly burn. If you want to stop the rub from completely burning, lower the temperature of the grill once the outside has been thoroughly sear.

Choose a Favorite Rub Between Wet and Dried Rubs

Although I have a great deal more experience cooking in a kitchen, I've gained a lot of knowledge in the short time I've been grilling. I always go the extra mile to learn a new method of cooking. Like you, I watch cooking videos and read blogs.
I am a true foodie. I try to eat everything at least one time. It was hard to choose a favorite. Both rubs are unique. Wet rubs coat meat in flavor and produce tender, juicy meat. Dry rubs, on the other hand, create a crisp that is unlike any other. In order to choose my favorite, I weighed all the delicious facts, pros and cons and chose the dry rub.

Why did I choose the dry rub over a wet rub? It comes down to two factors that have nothing to do at all with taste. Wet rubs can be fantastic. I love a sweet wet-rub, such as this one with beer and brown sugar. When I am hungry, however, I will choose a sweet wet rub. I don't want to wait hours for my meats to cook. Meats that are seasoned with dry Rubs will cook faster than meats that are seasoned using wet Rubs. It's not hard to understand why I prefer a dry rub. Also, I don't like to be messy, and wet sauces can get messy. I do not like getting my hands sticky with sauce as I try to eat.

The information provided here will help you to grill delicious meat. You can find my favorite wet and dried rubs below. I won't tell which one you should choose, that's up to you and what you like.

Enjoy your grilling!

My Favorite Dry Spicy Rub

This dry rub is bursting with bold spices, and Peruvian spice gives it a kick. This spicy dry rub goes well with chicken.

Preparation Time: 30 Minutes

Total time: One hour and 20 minutes

Yields : Half cup

What You Need: A mortar and pestle, electric coffee grinder or cookie sheet.

Ingredients

  • 2 tsp. Peruvian Spice Blend
  • 2 tsp. Cumin seeds, ground
  • 2 tsp. Annatto seeds, ground
  • 2 tsp. ground Oregano
  • 2 tsp. Garlic Granules
  • 1 tsp. Smoked Paprika
  • 1 tsp. Smoked Black Peppercorns, ground
  • 1 tsp. Lemon Peel Granules
  • 1 tsp. Pacific Blue Flake Kosher Salt

Instructions:

  1. Pre-heat grill by heating one side at high heat, and the other side at medium heat.
  2. Use a coffee grinder or a mortar-and-pestle to grind cumin, annatto, and smoked black peppercorns one by one into a fine powder. All dry ingredients should be in powder form. Combine all the ingredients in a bowl and mix thoroughly.
  3. Sprinkle your spice mixture onto the meat using gloved hands. This recipe is great for chicken. Massage the rub into your meat until the meat is well coated.
  4. Rest the chicken for 30 minutes in a plastic bag. The seasoning will be absorbed into the meat.
  5. Place the seasoned chicken on the grill and allow it to sear. Keep your eyes on it as the rub can smolder. Once the meat has been thoroughly seared and it becomes dark, reduce the heat to medium to finish cooking.
  6. Remove the meat from the heat as soon as it reaches 165 degrees.

The Ultimate Smoky Wet Rub For Grilling

This wet rub is made special with the help of dark beer and smoked-paprika. Use this rub to add Memphis flavor to ribs or brisket.

Preparation Time: 30 Minutes

Total time: 10 Hours

Yields : 2/3 cup

What You Need: Mixing bowl, plastic bag or container with leak-proof lid.

Ingredients:

  • 2 tbsps. Dark Brown Sugar
  • 4 tsp. Sweet Smoked Paprika
  • 1 tsp. Garlic Granules
  • 1 tsp. Onion Granules
  • 1 tsp. Pacific Blue Kosher Flake Sea Salt
  • 1 tbsps. Dried Thyme Leaves
  • 3 tbsps. Dark Beer

Instructions:

  1. Mix all the dry ingredients together in a large bowl. Pour the beer into the rub and stir until it becomes a smooth paste. Rub the rub into meat. Pork ribs are best for this recipe.
  2. Wrap the seasoned meat with plastic wrap or place it in a container that is sealed and put in the refrigerator for at least 30 min. The longer the rub is allowed to sit, the better. The wet rubs may be refrigerated overnight or for up to 8 hours.
  3. Pre-heat the grill the day before you want to grill. The heat should be low to medium, depending on the length of time you intend to cook the meat.

Note from the Chef: A slower cooking time equals more flavorful and juicier meat. Take your time, and make sure to serve it hot. You will need napkins as well because the mess is going to be great!

What spices are used for Thai cooking?

Thai cuisine is known for its complex flavour combinations. These unique flavours are created with flavorful spices, which result in delicious dishes.

Common ingredients for Thai cooking are galangal, lemongrass, kaffirlim leaves, chillies and garlic.

Each spice contributes to Thai cuisine's distinctive flavour profile. It is used often in soups and curries; galangal lends a slightly peppery taste to dishes; chillies add a spicy kick; garlic gives dishes an umami depth; shrimp paste adds a subtle, but fragrant, aroma to dishes; coriander brings out a mild, yet pleasant aroma to dishes; cumin adds a smoky flavor to dishes; and turmeric gives food a vivid yellow color.

These spices work together to create unique flavour profiles for Thai cuisine. The combination of spices allows chefs to create dishes that are both delicious and aromatic. These spices will help you bring Thailand's flavours to your kitchen.

What is the difference in curry and curried?

There is no difference between the spellings. Both terms refer to the exact same thing: An Indian dish that combines meat and vegetables with different seasonings.

Curry comes from the Hindi word kari meaning "to rub." This term refers to how the spice mixture is rubbed onto the food. Curried foods are generally cooked until they become golden.

Curried dishes are no longer reserved for special occasions. They're now commonplace in India. They can include chicken, beef, lamb, fish, vegetables, and rice.

Curried dishes are typically served alongside plain white rice. Another common accompaniment is raita, a yogurt sauce, and chutney, a sweet relish.

What is the importance and purpose of spices?

A spice is a seasoning that is used to enhance the flavor of food. There are many types of spices, including powders, liquids and oils. They can also be known as condiments, flavours, and flavor.

Spice up your meals with a variety of spices. You can spice up dishes with many different spices for more flavor and excitement.

A few drops of hot sauce can make a soup taste better. Or perhaps you could mix a handful of cayenne peppers with a cup of rice.

Fresh ingredients are the best option to spice up your recipes. Organic herbs are better than dried herbs. Fresh herbs can last for longer than dried.

Some spices are essential to cooking; however, there are some that you might prefer to avoid. If you have a history liver disease, cinnamon sticks should be avoided. Ginger also contains coumarin, but it's much less concentrated. It's safe for those without any history of liver problems.

How to Cut Shiitake Mushrooms?

So the shiitakes have been doing well. You can't go wrong with them. However, how do you cut them without cutting yourself? We have tried everything, even using scissors. But they just keep slipping from our hands. What's the matter?

There's a trick to that. You must put a rubber band around the mushroom's stem and twist it tight. You won't slip or cut yourself.

It may sound too simple. It is. But it's also very powerful.

The rubber band makes your stem slippery and it feels very natural when you pick it it up. Plus, it doesn't hurt to hold the stem tightly.

Go ahead, try it. It's so easy to chop mushrooms now.
