Frequently Asked Questions

What purpose is Thai spice used?

We all have heard the term Thai spices, but we don't understand what it really means. It makes our mouths water when we try it.

It isn't just any spice. It's an essential ingredient, which adds depth and flavor to dishes otherwise bland.

Although there are many recipes that call for Thai spices in large numbers, very few recipes actually use the true thing. So let's help you figure out how to ensure you're adding these delicious flavors to your meals.

Thais have used herbs and spices since ancient times to enhance food and drink. Thai derives its name from the Sanskrit phrase "to cook".

Many Thais love spicy foods, even today. This preference is often due to the heat in Thailand which makes it difficult for people to stay warm without hot drinks. Thais also consume more chili peppers that Americans or Europeans.

The best way to learn about Thai spices is to visit a local Asian grocery store. You'll find many ingredients there, including fresh basil leaves, dried chilies and curry paste.

Whole peppercorns, whole cloves, cinnamon sticks and star anise may also be found.

Thai cuisine uses both dry and wet spices. Dry spices are usually ground, while wet ones are crushed or pounded finely.

Dry spices are usually added to a dish. For example, you can sprinkle ground red pepper onto your chicken soup. Mixing wet spices with oil or butter can create a paste.

Wet spices are often used in sauces, marinades, and dressings. Fish sauce, oyster sauces, sesame and sesame olive oils, curry paste and hoisin are some of the most common wet spice options.

Thai recipes can be prepared at home by knowing which spices pair well with what ingredients.

Red pepper flakes should be used if you're using beef. White pepper is better for seafood such as shrimp.

You can also order online if your Asian market is not available. There are many options for exotic herbs, spices and dried chilies.

You might want to try these Thai recipes next time you feel hungry.

What are 7 Indian spices?

Indian spices include a range of spices that are used to make Indian cuisine. They typically include cardamom, cumin, coriander, turmeric, fenugreek, ginger, and asafoetida (also known as hing). These spices add flavour and aroma to dishes by blending and complementing natural ingredients such as meats and vegetables. Spices create unique flavour profiles, which make Indian cuisine so distinctive.

Cardamom has a sweet and pungent taste with hints of citrus and ginger. It is often used to flavour curries and rice dishes like biryani. Cumin has a strong, earthy aroma as well as a rich and nuanced flavor. It is often added in to curries, dals, or meat dishes. Coriander gives dishes a mild nuttiness due to its sweet citrus aroma. It is often used to season vegetables and lentils.

Turmeric has an earthy taste with mustard, spices, hints of pepper. This spice is often used in curries, and other dishes. It also has a golden hue. Fenugreek has a rich aroma, earthy tones, and a slightly bitter flavour. It is often used as a seasoning for meat dishes like kebabs. Ginger is pungent and spicy with hints o citrus. It can be used to spice up soups, curries and chutneys. Asafoetida or hing has a pungent scent and strong taste that can replace onion and garlic for some recipes.

These spices together create unique flavors that make Indian food so special.

Thai food includes paprika.

Yes. Yes.

Paprika is found in Thai food and Mexican, Italian, Spanish, Indian, Chinese, French, Moroccan, Middle Eastern, Lebanese, Greek, Turkish, and Balkan cuisines.

Paprika can been traced back to Ancient Greece over 5,000 years ago. The Hungarian language is what "paprika" means.

How to Store Spices

Keep them out of the sun and heat.

For longer storage, store spices in a dark cabinet. This will preserve them and prevent any oxidation.

Keep spices dry and away from sunlight in a cool, dry place. It is possible for the spice to lose its flavor and aroma if it's placed in close proximity to a window or heater.

Spices work best in an airtight jar or tin. Avoid storing spices in plastic containers.

Always check the seal after opening and resealing, as humidity can cause spoilage.

Do not throw away any spices that you have left over. Use them instead by adding them into other dishes. For an extended shelf life, you can freeze the vegetables.

Does Thai use ginger?

The answer is yes. In traditional Thai cuisine, ginger is used extensively. It is commonly added to stir-fries or soups. Ginger is also used in desserts such as lassis.

Ginger is an indigenous plant of China, Japan and Korea. Its roots date back more that 5,000 years. It is thought that it originated in Southeast Asia, where its medicinal uses were cultivated.

Ginger has been known to improve digestion and reduce nausea. It may even help prevent migraines. Ginger also helps to relieve muscle spasms, reduce joint pain, and treat arthritis.

Ginger is often fresh in Thailand. The ginger root is then cut into thin strips. Once dried, it can be stored for future use. In Asian markets, you can purchase ginger root in cans or in jars.

  • Next, remove and cut the cloves of garlic (about four cloves). Finely chop the lemongrass stems to about 1/2 inch in thickness.
  • Then, crush dried red chilli peppers (about four tablespoons) and remove the seeds (optional).
  • Cut the kaffirlime leaves into small strips, approximately 5 inches in length. Take out the white part and place it in a bowl.
  • Next, drain and wash the shrimp paste (6 ounces), and then coarsely mashing it.
  • Measure out the sugar and salt.

Step3 - Add Coconut Milk

  • Add coconut milk to the mixture and mix well.
  • You should slowly add the coconut milk so that it doesn't get too sticky.
  • For a milder taste, use less chillies and more galangal roots.
  • You can make it more spicy by adding more chilies and less galangal root. The end result should be delicious.

Step4 -- Serve

  • Top it with your favorite foods.
  • Enjoy!
