What Thai spice should I use to cook Thai food in my own kitchen?

In order to cook authentic Thai food at home you will need five spices: black pepper (cayenne), coriander seeds (coriander seeds), turmeric and cinnamon. Each ingredient has its own unique flavour profile, and each plays an important role in creating delicious dishes.

Black pepper enhances the savoury flavors of curry powder, while cinnamon gives it sweetness. Curry powder gets its yellow hue from turmeric and coriander seeds. Cayenne peppers provide heat and cilantro provides freshness. Finally, cinnamon can add depth and complexity in any dish.

Each of these spices can be found at your local grocery, but you may prefer to buy them online.


What is the difference in curry and curried?

There is no difference between the spellings. Both words refer the same thing: Indian food that uses meats and vegetables along with different seasonings.

Curry comes from the Hindi word kari meaning "to rub." This term refers to how the spice mixture is rubbed onto the food. Curry is typically prepared until the food is golden brown.

While curried dishes were once reserved only for special occasions they are now enjoyed regularly throughout India. They can be made with chicken, beef or lamb and include vegetables as well.

Curried dishes are typically served alongside plain white rice. The most common accompaniments are raita (a yogurt paste) and chutney.

How to store cooking spices?

I'll show you how to store spices properly for best results. First, we must understand how food is stored.

Because spices lose their flavour when exposed to the sun, they are best kept out of reach from light. This is due to oxygen combining with organic compounds, such as spices.

To avoid oxidation, spices must be kept in dark cupboards. These conditions can cause spices to quickly lose their flavor.

The best way to preserve the flavour of spices is to keep them in airtight jars away from direct sunlight.

To make flavoured drinks, you can add herbs or spices to water. To make a cinnamon-flavored drink, combine two teaspoons of ground ginger with half a cup of warm water. Stir and mix well. Add a squeezed lemon juice and serve immediately.

Add dried herbs and spices to soups. Just sprinkle the spice mix evenly over the dish. Let it rest for 5-10 minutes before you serve.

You can add leftover cooked vegetables, fruits, meats and shellfish to your favorite recipes as snacks.

To get the best flavours from fresh herbs and spices, cut them or tear them and add them to hot foods. You can freeze herbs or spices by placing them on ice cube tray or muffin cups. Once frozen, place them in freezer bags or zip-top bags.
