Almond Flour and Almond Meal: What is the Difference?

An almond meal can be used as an alternative to almond flour. It can also be used in cooking and baking.

Almond flour could also contain gluten making it difficult for some people to digest. If you have celiac disease or another digestive disorder, it's essential to avoid gluten-free foods.

Almond flour isn't considered "superfood", but it is high in healthy fats, fibres, protein, vitamin E, and sodium.

The almond meal provides nutritional benefits such as magnesium, iron, zinc and manganese. It also contains vitamin A, B1 (thiamin), C, and folate.

Almond flour is made with almonds. Almond oils contain polyunsaturated essential fatty acids. Both can lower LDL cholesterol and increase HDL cholesterol.

Almond flour is also high in antioxidants, such as phenolics, flavonoids and proanthocyanidins. These compounds are effective in preventing oxidative damages caused by free radicals.

In a study published in Journal of Agricultural Food Chemistry, almond flour was found to have an antioxidant activity comparable to blueberries, cranberries or pomegranates and red wine grapes juice.

Almond milk is often sold with almond flour, which has been fortified with additional nutrients.


How to Store Spices

Keep them in an airtight, dry container away from heat or light.

If you want to keep spices fresh for a long time, place them into a dark cupboard. This will keep the spices fresh and prevent any oxidation.

Keep spices dry and away from sunlight in a cool, dry place. If the spice is placed near a heater or window, it may lose its flavour and aroma.

How to Make a Garlic Press

But if you don't own a garlic press yet, you might wonder where to start with one. Here are some tips that will help you get started.

First, you will need a large bowl. Place the bowl underneath the press and pour the crushed garlic into it. Now, turn the pressure regulator to maximum.

Next, turn the handle clockwise until you hear a click. The top part of the press should lift off and reveal a flat surface that will allow you to slide the blade back and forth over the bowl. Continue to turn the handle counterclockwise, until the blades are closed.

Finally, remove the pressed garlic.

Here are some more ways to use this versatile instrument:
