Frequently Asked Questions
Is it possible to add spice to a drink?
I love the way spices add flavour to food. But how can you make them live when they're used in drinks.
Spices add a wonderful depth to any beverage. A dash of cinnamon and nutmeg can make any beverage more delicious, including coffee, tea, hot cocoa, and cocktails.
Most recipes require ground spices. You will need to use fresh whole spices. This makes sense, but it is expensive, takes time, and requires storage space.
That's where the magic happens. It's possible to transform your favorite spices into a powdered form that is easy to use with a bit of creativity. Mix them with your favorite drinks to make delicious spiced beverages.
There are two ways to go about creating these powders. One method involves grinding whole spices to a fine powder. Another uses a mortar and pestle to grind the spices into a finer consistency.
No matter which method you use, the powder will be much easier to measure and store than whole spices. The powder is stable so you don't run low on stock.
You can experiment with mixing spices to create different flavours. For example, you could combine peppermint and spearmint leaves to make minty water. For spicy ginger tea, use ginger and cardamom capsules.
Once you've learned how to make powdered spices from scratch, you can apply the same process to herbs. Some of the most common herbs are basil, rosemary, thyme, oregano and sage.
The possibilities are limitless. Use powdered spices to give your beverages extra flavour or to enhance the taste of dishes such as soups, salads, and pasta.
What is the difference between curry and curried?
The spellings are the same. Both words refer the same thing: Indian food that uses meats and vegetables along with different seasonings.
Curry is derived in Hindi from kari, which means to rub. This refers the way that the spice mix is applied onto the food. Curry is typically prepared until the food is golden brown.
While curried dishes were once reserved only for special occasions they are now enjoyed regularly throughout India. They can include chicken, beef, lamb, fish, vegetables, and rice.
Curried dishes are typically served alongside plain white rice. You can also add raita (a yogurt sauce), or chutney (a sweet relish).
What are the 11 spice ingredients in Indian cooking?
Indian cuisine includes eleven spices, including cumin, coriander, cumin, mustard, fennel, and nigella seed, as well as black pepper, cloves and cinnamon sticks, dry red chill powder, turmeric, cardamom, and black pepper.
These spices are found in nearly every dish. These spices lend a unique flavour to dishes such dal (lentils), curries chutneys pickles rice, bread and sweets.
Health benefits can also be attained from spices. Turmeric, for example, is known to fight cancer cells. Bad breath can be prevented with cloves. Black pepper helps lower cholesterol levels. Cinnamon lowers blood pressure. And ginger aids digestion.
A spice rack is a great kitchen tool because it allows you to experiment with different combinations of flavors. You can make your own blends of spices or buy ready-made mixes containing many essential spices.
Some people are against adding spices to their food. They believe spices only mask natural flavor and do little to enhance them. A pinch of salt or pepper will not harm your dishes.
Most chefs agree spices are essential to culinary art. Without spices, many dishes are bland and tasteless. You might be inspired to try something new next time you feel adventurous.

How To
How to store spices for cooking?
Here's how to store your cooking spices for maximum performance. We must first understand the science behind food storage.
Because light can diminish the flavour of spices, they should be kept in sealed containers. This is due to oxidation which occurs when oxygen combines with organic compounds such as those found in spices.
To prevent oxidation of spices, keep them in dark cupboards. If these conditions are not met, spices will quickly lose their flavour.
Keep spices fresh by storing them in airtight jars out of direct sunlight.
You can add herbs and spices to water to make a flavoured drink. Mix 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon with 1/2 cup of warm liquid and stir. Add a squeeze of lemon juice and serve immediately.
Dry herbs and spices can also be used in soups, stews or casseroles. Sprinkle the spice mixture evenly on the dish, and let it sit for five to ten minutes before you serve.
Leftover cooked vegetables, fruits and meats, as well as leftover cheese, breads, crackers, cookies or cakes can be added to favorite recipes for snacks.
If you want to take advantage of the flavours of fresh herbs and spices, chop or tear them up and add them to foods while they're still hot. Also, you can freeze herbs and spice by placing them into ice cube dishes or muffin cups. Once frozen, place them in freezer bags or zip-top bags.
