Every year, Thanksgiving brings back many of your favorite dishes. The classics are always appreciated: roasted turkey, green beans casserole, mashed potato with gravy, ham and mashed potatoes. But what about pie?

Since a very long time, pies have been part of the Thanksgiving tradition. Pies have been served at Thanksgiving ever since the late nineteenth century.

Everyone loves pie. But that doesn't necessarily mean everyone agrees on the best pie. What other types of pies make my top five? Which is my favorite pie? Find out by reading on.

Pie: The Best Thanksgiving Dessert

You're like me if you leave enough room for pie. A great pie is a must-have for Thanksgiving. The turkey is the star of the show, but everyone loves the sweet pie that comes at the end. It's often the last thing people eat before thinking about Black Friday and the holiday season.

While some people are happy to buy a pie pre-made from a local bakery, I like to make it myself. Dessert is actually my favorite part of Thanksgiving cooking.

The Top 5 Pies for Thanksgiving

I love all types of pie but these are the ones that I think are best for Thanksgiving.

#5 – Apple Pie

Apple Pie is ranked number five on my list. This classic pie, with its flaky crust and spiced apple filling, is perfect for the fall. This pie is usually served warm, with a scoop or two of ice-cream on top. This is a delicious, simple dessert, perfect for the holidays.

#4 - Sweet Potato Pie

Sweet potato pie is number four on my Thanksgiving pie list. This classic pie is likely to have graced many a table if you were raised in the South like me. This creamy pie is made from mashed sweet potatoes mixed with cinnamon, nutmeg and butter, as well as sugar and sugar. This is a southern favorite, but it's not my favorite pie at Thanksgiving.

Chocolate Chess Pie

Chocolate Chess Pie is another pie that has southern roots. The classic chess Pie is topped with gooey, rich chocolate. It's super easy to make, with just cocoa and sugar, plus butter and eggs. But it is delicious, particularly in the flaky crust. This is a delicious, easy dessert with a lot of flavor. It's favored by chocolate lovers. This pie is an old-fashioned classic, full of comfort and indulgence. It's my third favorite pie at Thanksgiving.

Pumpkin Pie

Pumpkin pie is my second favorite pie, perfect for Thanksgiving. This classic American dessert shines brightly during Thanksgiving. This pie is distinguished by its creamy, spicy filling, which consists of a mixture of pumpkin puree, warm spices such as cinnamon, ginger and cloves and sugar or molasses. It's a comforting, smooth pie that will bring the feeling of fall to your table. Although I love a good pie, it's not my favorite pie for Thanksgiving. This title belongs to:

Pecan Pie

Pecan Pie is my absolute and personal favorite pie. I look forward every Thanksgiving to it. Pecan pie is a southern classic dessert that combines pecans and sweet corn syrup. It's served with a flaky, warm crust. I love this pie for several reasons. You can serve it warm or cold, everyone has their own preferred temperature, but you will still enjoy the taste. It is delicious plain, or with vanilla ice-cream or sweet whipped cream. You can also make a chocolate version.

Find out how to make the perfect chocolate pecan pie by reading on.

Chocolate Pecan Pie recipe

This pie will challenge the Thanksgiving purists. This pie is a winner. The bittersweet chocolate adds complexity to the pie, which is known for being extremely sweet. Bourbon gives it a sophisticated taste to elevate your dessert.

Ingredients

Total Time: 6.5 hrs

For Crust:

1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour (150 g), plus extra for dusting

1/4 teaspoon fine sea salt

10 Tablespoons of unsalted butter, preferably European style high-fat butter, cubed and chilled

As needed, 2 to 4 tablespoons of iced water

For Filling:

  • 1 1/2cups pecan halves (170 grams)
  • 6tablespoons of unsalted butter
  • 2 ounces of bittersweet chocolate, chopped up (56 grams).
  • 3/4cup dark corn syrup
  • 4large eggs
  • 1/2 cup packed light brown Sugar (100 grams)
  • 1tablespoon of unsweetened cocoa (5 grams)
  • 2tablespoons of bourbon
  • 1/4 teaspoon fine sea salt

Instructions

Step 2

Then, in a food processor pulse the flour with the salt. Add butter, and pulse the mixture until it resembles chickpea-sized pieces. Add 1 tablespoon of ice water at a time and pulse the mixture until it comes together. The dough should be moist, but not soggy. Gather the dough onto a lightly-floured surface. With the heel of your hands, flatten the dough into a disc. Cover tightly with plastic and refrigerate at least for 1 hour, and up to two days.

Step 2.

After removing the plastic wrap, roll the dough out to a 12 inch circle on a lightly-floured surface. Transfer the crust into a pie plate measuring 9 inches. Overlap any extra dough and crimp the edges. Prick the crust with a fork. Cool crust for 30 min.

Step 4

Heat the oven to 350 degrees while the dough is chilling. Line the chilled crust with foil and then fill it with pie weights, or dried beans. Bake for 25 minutes. Bake for 5-10 minutes more. Remove the foil.

Step 4.

Reduce the temperature of your oven to 350 degrees. Spread pecans out on a baking sheet with a rim. Toast nuts in a pan, occasionally shaking it, for 8-10 minutes, or until they are fragrant. Cool.

Step 5

To make the filling, in a small pan, over low heat, melt the butter and chocolate. Stir until smooth. Cool.

Step 6

In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooled chocolate butter mixture with corn syrup, eggs sugar, cocoa, bourbon, and salt. Pour the chocolate-butter mixture into the crust. Overfilling, arrange pecans. Transfer the mixture to a large baking sheet with a rim. Bake for 30-40 minutes, or until the filling just sets when you shake the pan. Cool the pie completely on a rack after removing it from the oven.

What uses is Thai spice?

The term Thai spice is a common phrase that we've heard a lot, but don't really know what it means. But once we start to feel the heat in our mouths, we wonder why it hasn't been eaten more.

It's more than just a spice. It's an essential ingredient, which adds depth and flavor to dishes otherwise bland.

Many recipes call for Thai spice, but only a few have the actual thing. Let's find out how to add these wonderful flavors to your dishes.

As far back as ancient times, Thais have been cooking with herbs and spices to add flavor to food and beverages. The name Thai originates from the Sanskrit word for "to cook."

Most Thais like spicy food, even today. This preference is often attributed to the hot weather in Thailand, which makes it difficult to keep warm without something hot to drink. Thais also consume more chili peppers that Americans or Europeans.

Visit a local Asian grocery shop to find out more about Thai spices. You'll find many ingredients there, including fresh basil leaves, dried chilies and curry paste.

You may also find whole peppercorns.

Thai cuisine uses both dry and wet spices. Dry spices are generally ground, while wet spices can be crushed or pounded finely.

Dry spices are added directly to a dish. For example, ground red pepper is sprinkled onto chicken soup. Mixing wet spices with oil or butter can create a paste.

Wet spices are usually used in marinades, sauces, and dressings. Wet spices are used in many dishes, including fish sauce, oyster, sesame, sesame, sesame oil and curry paste.

To make Thai food at your home, it is important to understand which spices are best with particular ingredients.

Red pepper flakes are recommended for beef. If you use seafood like shrimp, you should use white pepper instead.

If you don't live near an Asian market, you can order online. You will find everything from dried chilies to exotic herbs and spices here.

So next time you get hungry, think about putting on a little extra heat by whipping up one of these tasty Thai recipes!

How To Make A Garlic Press?

A garlic press is an essential tool for any home cook. You can quickly mince garlic or make a paste. It is great for crushing whole garlic cloves in a buttery spread, or garlic salt.

You might be wondering where to begin if you don’t have a garlic press. These tips will help you get started.

First things first: you'll need a large bowl. Place the bowl under the pressure regulator and pour the crushed garlic inside. Set the pressure regulator valve at the maximum setting.

Next, move the handle clockwise so that you hear a click. The top part of the press should lift off and reveal a flat surface that will allow you to slide the blade back and forth over the bowl. Continue turning the handle counterclockwise until the blades close.

Finally, take out the pressed garlic.

These are just a few of the many ways you can use this versatile tool.

  • Garlic mince can be added to soups or sauces, salads or dips.
