Ever thought about pumpkin pie's history and who invented it. The invention of pumpkin pie is not attributed to one person. The history of pumpkin pies is much more fascinating. Let's get started.

Pumpkins are the Fall's favorite.

Pumpkins are deeply associated with autumn in the United States. During this time of year, we can indulge in all things pumpkin flavored. Pumpkin spice latte is a must-have fall drink, but there are also pumpkin breads, muffins and cookies, as well as soups, cakes, pastas, and more. The pumpkin pie is both the oldest and the most popular pumpkin dish.

This dessert is as important to Thanksgiving as it is Christmas. It is often regarded as a meal staple. Pumpkin pie is the ultimate holiday treat, especially when topped with whipped cream. The pumpkin is a truly American fruit.

History of the Pumpkin

Pumpkins are believed to have originated in Central America where they were cultivated for hundreds of year by humans. It was highly regarded by the ancient Americans, and with good reason. The delicious taste of the pumpkin was so irresistible, that European explorers brought it back from the area on their first expeditions. In 1536, the pumpkin first appeared in European writing. Europeans adopted it quickly. By the mid-1500s it was a popular crop in England, and France. It is called "pompons" or "pumpions", in France. Both languages use the French term for the round portion of a tassel.

After the English colonists brought pumpkins to New England during the early 1600s, the word "pumpkin", which was a British term, gradually became Americanized within a few generation.

The History of Pumpkin Pie

The English used pumpkins to make pies before they brought them back to America. England's pie-making industry had existed for centuries and was a specialized one. This continued into the 1500s. In the Middle Ages, pies were made with pastry shells and sweet or savory fillings. When pumpkins became popular in England, these were quickly incorporated into pies.

Many European countries used pumpkins as part of their cuisine after being introduced to them from the New World. However, no country embraced pumpkins quite like the English. When the Pilgrims arrived in New England, 1620, it is likely that they had already eaten pumpkins. This was similar to the Native Americans who met them upon arrival at Plymouth. Wampanoags, in particular played a vital role in helping the colonists survive their first harsh New England winter. The natives probably shared pumpkins with colonists because they were a food that could be preserved easily.

Pumpkins at the First Thanksgiving

The "first Thanksgiving", which took place after a harsh winter and the colonists first harvest in America, was almost certain to include pumpkins. Native Americans, notably the Wampanoag Tribe, helped the Mayflower colonists plant and cultivate their crops in America. The colonists celebrated their harvest with 90 Wampanoag in recognition of their success. Pumpkins were abundant in the area, and the Wampanoag had already started to cultivate them. It is therefore highly likely that the first Thanksgiving included some type of pumpkin dish.

The Pumpkin That Was Almost Forgotten

As New England prospered the colonists began to depend more on foods familiar from England. These were regularly imported by ships, and they started cultivating crops like pears, quinces, apples, etc. The colonists of New England were self-sufficient in the early stages and eventually switched from pumpkins to foods that they knew. They never totally ignored the pumpkin.

The History of the Pumpkin Pie

Early pumpkin pies in Europe and North America looked quite different than the "traditional" pie we know. In sixteenth and seventeenth century cookbooks, it was often suggested to boil the pumpkin with milk, then put it into a flour-crust. It could also be layered with apples, or seasoned with herbs such as rosemary, marjoram and thyme. Early New England settlers used a recipe which involved hollowing out the pumpkin, filling with spiced and sweetened milk and boiling it, before drinking it directly from the gourd.

In the early 1700s the sweetened and spiced puree of pumpkin baked in a crust made from flour became a New England regional favorite closely associated with Thanksgiving. Colchester, Connecticut even had to postpone its Thanksgiving celebrations in 1705 due to a temporary lack of molasses for making pumpkin pies. In 1796, a cookbook in America contained a recipe for pumpkin pie that was almost identical to the one we enjoy today.

The Thanksgiving holiday and pumpkin pie became so closely associated with New England that when Abraham Lincoln declared Thanksgiving as a national day in 1863, the southern states protested. They saw it as an effort to impose the northern culture and values onto the south. After the Civil War, Thanksgiving and pumpkin pie became very popular across the country. Recipes began to appear in women's magazines. In 1929, the famous Libby canned-pumpkin was introduced to simplify pie-making for home cooks.

Pumpkin pie, despite its many variations throughout the years, has been a favorite among Europeans and colonizers of America since the first time they encountered Native Americans who were cultivating it. It's fascinating to learn about the history of pumpkin pies. Next time you eat a piece, take a minute to reflect on its beginnings.

Almond Flour vs. Almond Meal: What's the Difference?

As an almond flour alternative, an almond meal is more versatile because it can be used for baking, cooking, and even making nut-free dishes.

Almond flour could also contain gluten making it difficult for some people to digest. It is important to avoid gluten-free products if you have celiac or other digestive disorders.

Almond flour isn't considered "superfood", but it is high in healthy fats, fibres, protein, vitamin E, and sodium.

The almond meal offers many nutritional benefits including iron, magnesium, zinc, manganese (thiamin), calcium, vitamin A, B1 and Vitamin C.

Because it's made from almonds, almond flour contains monounsaturated fatty acids, while almond oil contains polyunsaturated fatty acids. Both can lower LDL cholesterol and increase HDL cholesterol.

Almond flour is also high in antioxidants, such as phenolics, flavonoids and proanthocyanidins. These compounds are effective in preventing oxidative damages caused by free radicals.

The Journal of Agricultural Food Chemistry published a study that found almond flour to have the same antioxidant activity as blueberries, cranberries and pomegranates.

Almond milk is often sold with almond flour, which has been fortified with additional nutrients.

What does Thai spice serve?

We've all heard the term "Thai spice" thrown around without knowing exactly what it means. When we taste it, our mouths water and we wonder why we aren't eating more.

But it isn't just any old spice. It is an essential ingredient that brings flavor and depth into dishes that might otherwise be boring.

Many recipes call for Thai spice, but only a few have the actual thing. Let's talk about how to make sure you add these amazing flavors to your meals.

Thais have been using herbs and spices in their cooking since antiquity to add flavor to food. The name Thai originates from the Sanskrit word for "to cook."

Today, Thais still love spicy food. This preference is often explained by the hot climate in Thailand that makes it difficult to stay warm while drinking hot drinks. Thais consume more chili peppers than Americans and Europeans.

A local Asian grocery store is the best place to learn more about Thai spice. There are many options available, including dried chilies as well as fresh basil leaves and curry paste.

Whole peppercorns, whole cloves, cinnamon sticks and star anise may also be found.

There are two types of spices in Thai cuisine: dry and wet. The dry spices are usually ground while the wet spices are crushed or pounded finely.

Dry spices are usually added to a dish. A good example is chicken soup with ground red pepper. A paste is made by combining wet spices and oil with butter or butter.

Wet spices are commonly used in marinades and sauces. Some common wet spices include fish sauce, oyster sauce, soy sauce, sesame oil, curry paste, and hoisin sauce.

You need to be able to match certain spices with Thai ingredients if you wish to make Thai food at home.

Red pepper flakes can be used to season beef. If you're using seafood like shrimp, white pepper should be used.

Finally, you can always order online if you don't have access to a good quality Asian market. There are many options for exotic herbs, spices and dried chilies.

So next time you get hungry, think about putting on a little extra heat by whipping up one of these tasty Thai recipes!

Is Paprika used in Thai food?

Yes. It is an ingredient in many dishes, including Pad See Ew (Thai fried rice), from eggs cooked in coconut milk.

Thai food, Mexican, Spanish or Indian cuisines, Thai food, Mexican, Spanish, Indian, Chinese, Thai, Thai, Greek, Turkish and Balkan cuisines all contain paprika.

Paprika dates back more than 5,000 years to Ancient Greece. The Hungarian language means "pepper" and the word "paprika".

What is Thai cooking's most famous ingredient?

Thailand has two main ingredients that make up the heart and soul of all dishes: rice, curry, and steamed vegetables. These two essential elements come together to create an unforgettable flavor.

In Thailand, we call this combination "Khao Pad Krai," which means 'the best dish.' This is because when these two basic foods are combined into a single dish, they become incredibly delicious and irresistible.

The same goes for life. If you combine hard work with perseverance, you can achieve great success.

Combining passion and purpose, as Khao Pad Krai has shown, can help you succeed. If you put them together, you'll produce something extraordinary.

When you are craving Thai food, don't forget to add rice and curry! Try experimenting with other ingredients and see how much fun it can be!

Is Thai cooking made with garlic?

Thai cuisine includes garlic. Garlic is often used to make Thai dishes, including salads and soups, stir-fries and curries, as well as sauces and sauces.

In Thailand, garlic can be chopped and fried along with ginger and shallots. It is also often eaten with sticky rice.

Garlic is best chopped finely and mixed with oil, chilli paste, fish sauce, lime juice and oil. This is "Nam Phrik" or "namphrik". Nam phrik is often served with grilled chicken or beef.

How To

How to store cooking spice?

I'll show you how to store spices properly for best results. First, let's understand how foods are stored.

Because light can diminish the flavour of spices, they should be kept in sealed containers. This is caused by oxidation, which happens when oxygen and organic compounds combine like spices.

To prevent oxidation, spices should be stored in dark cupboards. These conditions can cause spices to quickly lose their flavor.

The best way to preserve the flavour of spices is to keep them in airtight jars away from direct sunlight.

To create a flavorful drink, you can add spices and herbs to water. For example, mix two teaspoons of ground cinnamon with 1/2 cup of warm water and stir well. Serve immediately with a squeeze of lemon.

Dry herbs and spices can also be used in soups, stews or casseroles. Place the spice mixture on top of the dish and allow it to rest for 5-10 mins before serving.

You can add leftover cooked vegetables, fruits, meats and shellfish to your favorite recipes as snacks.

If you want to take advantage of the flavours of fresh herbs and spices, chop or tear them up and add them to foods while they're still hot. You can freeze herbs or spices by placing them on ice cube tray or muffin cups. Transfer frozen items to zip-top or freezer bags.
