How to store cooking spices?

This article will show you how to store cooking spice for optimal performance. First, it is important to understand the science behind how foodstuffs are stored.

Keep spices out of direct sunlight as light will reduce their flavor. This is due to oxygen combining with organic compounds, such as spices.

Spices should be kept in the dark cupboards and sealed tightly in airtight containers to prevent oxidation. If these conditions are not met, spices will quickly lose their flavour.

You can preserve the flavor of spices by keeping them in sealed jars, away from direct sunlight.

For a flavoured beverage, add herbs and spices. For example, you could mix 2 tablespoons of ground cinnamon in 1/2 cup of warm milk and stir it well. Add a squeeze or lemon juice to the mixture and serve immediately.

Dry herbs and spices can also be used in soups, stews or casseroles. Just sprinkle the spice mix evenly over the dish. Let it rest for 5-10 minutes before you serve.

Leftover cooked vegetables, fruits and meats, as well as leftover cheese, breads, crackers, cookies or cakes can be added to favorite recipes for snacks.

To get the best flavours from fresh herbs and spices, cut them or tear them and add them to hot foods. You can also freeze herbs and spices by placing them in ice cube trays or muffin cups and freezing them. Once frozen, place them in freezer bags or zip-top bags.
