How To

How to Make A Garlic Press

A garlic press is one of the most valuable tools in any home cook's arsenal. You can quickly mince garlic or make a paste. You can also crush whole garlic cloves to make buttery spreads or garlic seasonings.

However, if you don’t already have a garlic pressing machine, you might wonder how to get one. Luckily, we've got some tips to help you get started.

First, get a large container. Place the bowl below the press and pour in the crushed garlic. Now, set the pressure regulator valve to the maximum.

Next, move the handle clockwise so that you hear a click. The top end of the press should lift and reveal a flat area that allows you to slide your blade back and forth across the bowl. Continue to turn the handle counterclockwise, until the blades are closed.

Finally, take out the pressed garlic.

Here are other ways you can make use of this versatile tool.

  • Add minced garlic to soups, sauces, salads, and dips (or even as a seasoning)
  • Use the press for whole garlic cloves to make a buttery spread
  • Put whole garlic cloves on top of pizza dough, before you bake
  • Make roasted garlic mashed potatoes, or creamy polenta.
  • Use the press to mash garlic into homemade pesto
  • Puree garlic in a smooth vinaigrette
