Frequently Asked Questions
What purpose is Thai spice used?
It's a term we all have heard, even though we don't know what it actually means. We are left wondering why we don't eat more Thai spice when our mouths water.
It isn't just any spice. It's an ingredient that can add flavor and depth in dishes that otherwise would be bland.
Although there are many recipes that call for Thai spices in large numbers, very few recipes actually use the true thing. Let's find out how to add these wonderful flavors to your dishes.
As far back as ancient times, Thais have been cooking with herbs and spices to add flavor to food and beverages. The name Thai originates from the Sanskrit word for "to cook."
Thais are still fond of spicy foods. This preference can be attributed to Thailand’s hot weather. It is difficult to stay warm when you don't have something to drink. Thais are also more likely to consume chili peppers as compared to Americans or Europeans.
You can learn the most about Thai spices by visiting a local Asian grocery. You'll find many ingredients there, including fresh basil leaves, dried chilies and curry paste.
You may also come across whole peppercorns, cloves, cinnamon sticks, star anise, cardamom pods, ginger root, turmeric powder, cumin seeds, coriander seeds, fennel seeds, nutmeg, mace, mustard seed, saffron threads, garlic, onion, rice vinegar and tamarind juice.
Thai cuisine offers two types of spices: dry and moist. Dry spices are generally ground, while wet spices can be crushed or pounded finely.
Dry spices are usually added to a dish. For example, you can sprinkle ground red pepper onto your chicken soup. Mixing wet spices with oil or butter can create a paste.
Wet spices are usually used in marinades, sauces, and dressings. Fish sauce, oyster sauces, sesame and sesame olive oils, curry paste and hoisin are some of the most common wet spice options.
Thai cuisine can be made at home by learning which spices work well with specific ingredients.
Red pepper flakes are recommended for beef. Use white pepper if you are using seafood like shrimp.
Online ordering is also possible if you don’t have an Asian market. You can find everything here, from dried chilies to exotic spices and herbs.
This Thai recipe will give you a kick next time your stomach gets rumbling.
What is the value of spices?
A spice is an ingredient that adds flavor to food. There are many types of spices, including powders, liquids and oils. They can also be called condiments or flavours.
A great way to spice up your meals is to add some variety. Many spices can be added for additional flavor and excitement.
You may find that adding a few drops of hot pepper sauce to a bowl of soup will make it taste more delicious. Perhaps you can add some cayenne peppers to your cup of rice.
Fresh ingredients are the best option to spice up your recipes. Organic herbs are better than dried herbs. Fresh herbs keep longer than dried ones.
Some spices are essential to cooking; however, there are some that you might prefer to avoid. If you have a history liver disease, cinnamon sticks should be avoided. Ginger also contains some coumarin but it is less concentrated. It's safe for those without any history of liver problems.
Can you add spice into a drink
I love spices adding flavour to food. But how do you make them come alive when used in drinks?
Spices are excellent because they add incredible depth to any beverage. You can add a little cinnamon or nutmeg to any glass of wine, beer or coffee.
But most recipes call for ground spices, meaning you'll need fresh whole spices. Although this is logical, it can be costly, time-consuming, and takes up storage space.
Here is where the magic happens. It's possible to transform your favorite spices into a powdered form that is easy to use with a bit of creativity. Mix them with your favorite drinks to make delicious spiced beverages.
These powders can be made in two ways. One method involves grinding whole spices to a fine powder. Another way is to grind the spices in a mortar and pestle.
It doesn't matter what method you choose, the result is easier to measure out than whole spices and easier to store. Plus, the powder keeps well so that you won't run out of stock.
You can experiment with mixing spices to create different flavours. For example, you could combine peppermint and spearmint leaves to make minty water. Ginger and cardamom pods can be used to make spicy ginger Tea.
Once you are proficient in making powdered spice, you can also apply this technique to herbs. You can use basil, rosemary and thyme as common herbs.
There are many options. You can use powdered spice to enhance the flavour of your drinks or dishes like soups, salads, or pasta.
How do I make Thai food at home using Thai spices?
To make authentic Thai food at home, you'll need to master five essential spices: black pepper, cayenne, coriander seeds, turmeric, and cinnamon. Each ingredient plays a crucial role in the creation delicious dishes.
Cinnamon adds sweetness, while black pepper brings out savoury flavours. Coriander seeds give curry powder its distinctive yellow colour, while turmeric adds a spicy kick. Cayenne peppers are hot, and cilantro adds freshness. Finally, cinnamon can add depth and complexity in any dish.
These spices are available at most grocery stores. However, if you prefer to order them online, we have recommendations.
What is the most recognizable ingredient in Thai food?
Two main ingredients are the heart of Thai cuisine: curry and rice. This combination creates an unforgettable taste.
Combining these two basic foods into one dish is known as "Khaopad Krai" in Thailand.
The same applies to life. If you combine hard work with perseverance, you can achieve great success.
As Khao Pad Krai did, passion and purpose can be combined to make you successful. Combine them and you will create something truly extraordinary.
Next time you feel like eating Thai food, remember that it takes more than just rice and curry to make a memorable meal. Have fun with it!

How To
Do you know how to make curry paste?
Curry paste can be made with dried chillies. It is widely used in Thai cuisine.
Curry paste is one of the most popular condiments in Southeast Asia. It adds a unique flavour to many dishes, such as curries, soups, stir-fries, salads, rice dishes, noodles, and desserts.
It's very simple to make this at home. Follow the steps below to make it easy!
Step1 - Prepare Ingredients
- Before you can start the recipe, it is important to have all the ingredients ready.
- To begin, you will need to peel and chop shallots (about 2 cups). Then, cut the galangal roots into small pieces (approximately 3 inches in length), and then set aside.
- Next, peel and slice garlic cloves (about four cloves). Peel and finely mince lemongrass stems (about 1/2 inch thick).
- After that, you will need to crush dried red chili peppers (about four tablespoons) before removing the seeds (optional).
- Cut the kaffirlime leaves into small strips, approximately 5 inches in length. Set aside the white portion of the stem.
- After draining the shrimp paste, wash it well and then coarsely smash it.
- Finally, measure the sugar and salt.
Step2 - Grind Ingredients
- Blend all ingredients together until smooth.
- The texture should be similar to that of peanut butter.
- Take note: If you are looking to reduce oil in your dish you can add water to the mix.
Step3 - Add Coconut Milk
- Add coconut milk to the mixture, and mix well.
- To prevent the coconut milk from becoming too sticky, slowly add it.
- If you like it milder, reduce the number of chillies used and add more galangal root.
- For a more spicy taste, increase the amount of chillies and reduce the use of galangal root. The final result should taste good to you.
Step4 – Serve
- Top it with your favorite foods.
- Enjoy!
