This old-fashioned buttery peach cobbler is a hit! This homemade peach crumble recipe will be the hit of any potluck or party. It's a great way to serve up juicy summer peaches with a cake-like topping. It's easy to make and easy on the wallet, too, because you can use fresh, canned or frozen peaches. It costs less than a dollar per serving! Woot!!)

What is Peach Cobbler?

Peach Cobbler, often mistakenly attributed to the American South as a dessert, is actually Native American. It's so simple to make, and it tastes so good. It smells so delicious that your family will beg you to eat it right out of the oven. It's HOT. Let it sit for a few moments before you start eating. I know this from personal experience.

Ingredients For Peach Cobbler

This recipe will be a hit, so you may want to double it. Recently, I had two teens eat the entire thing before I could finish my first serving. I felt a wave of deep resentment. You'll need the following ingredients to make Peach Cobbler:

  • Peaches are the stars of this recipe. Fresh, canned or frozen peaches can be used. If you don't like peeling peaches, that's fine. I like the texture. Don't throw away the juices if you use canned fruit. If they're canned in syrup, you can keep the juices but leave out the brown sugar. Let them thaw if you are using frozen fruit.
  • Sugar helps sweeten batter and filling, and deepens color of crust. If you have only one type of sugar, you can use it. This recipe is forgiving.
  • Spices- Cinnamon pairs well with peaches and adds a subtle dimension to the flavor profile. I add a little ground ginger and some nutmeg for a richer flavor. If your peaches are already delicious, you can skip these two ingredients.
  • Lemon Juice - Adds acidity and thickens the peach juices. Use fresh or bottled.
  • Cornstarch - thickens the peach juices and keeps them clear. If you do not have cornstarch on hand, use 2 teaspoons all-purpose flour to thicken your filling. It might become a bit cloudy.
  • The batter for cobbler is made with All-Purpose Flour. This recipe has not been tested with gluten-free or almond flour. We can't provide any specific advice.
  • Baking powder – leavens the batter and aerates it. If you do not have baking powder, substitute 1/2 teaspoon baking soda with a tablespoon lemon juice in the cup of milk required by this recipe.
  • Almonds - go well with peaches, and they add texture to your cobbler. You can use chopped almonds instead of sliced. Pecans or Walnuts can be substituted for the almonds. If you are allergic to nuts or they are not budget friendly, you can skip the almonds.
  • Butter and Milk - make the batter. Use whole milk or a little more butter when using 2%. The milk fat keeps the crumb soft. Use plant-based milk and butter if you're vegan.
  • Vanilla- adds a vanilla scent to the batter, but you can skip it if there is none on hand.

What to serve with Peach Cobbler

Warm Peach Cobbler goes perfectly with our recipe for No-Churn Strawberry Ice Cream. Or, if you want to go all out on the peach flavor, make our incredible No-Churn Balsamic Peach Ice Cream. You can drizzle the Easy Caramel Sauce over it or add a few spoonfuls of Silky Blueberry Sauce. Topped with Homemade Whipped cream and Small Batch Crunchy Candied Nuts, I really enjoy it.

How to store peach Cobbler

The peach cobbler can be stored in the refrigerator for three days. You'll need to store it in the refrigerator because it contains dairy. You should eat leftovers within one day as they lose their flavor and texture quickly. Peach cobbler can be frozen. It should be cooled before it is stored in an airtight container. Place parchment paper on top. The product will last up to three months.

How to Reheat peach Cobbler

The best way to reheat peach crock is in a 350degF (or higher) oven, until it's steaming. When reheating frozen cobbler, you can put it straight in the oven from the freezer. You can reheat leftover peach cobbler in the microwave but the texture will change. If you decide to microwave it, heat in increments of 30 seconds until the cobbler is steaming.

Instructions

  • Set the rack in the center of the oven to 350degF. Mix the peaches with brown sugar, ginger powder, salt and a large bowl. Let the peaches soak up the sugar, spices, and juices for 5 minutes.
  • Add the peaches with their juices to a large skillet on medium heat. The juices should be cooked for 5 minutes. Mix the cornstarch and lemon juice together to form a slurry. Add it to the peaches, stirring well. Bring the mixture to a rolling boil on medium-high heat.
  • Remove the pan from the heat when the juices are thick enough to separate with a spoon (about 5 minutes).
  • Pour the butter into the pie dish, and then add the peaches cooked and their juices.
  • In large bowl, combine flour, sugar and sliced almonds. Add baking powder, cinnamon nutmeg and salt.
  • Mix the vanilla extract and milk together until you get a batter. Pour the batter over the peaches.
  • Bake for 35 minutes or until golden brown. Enjoy! Let cool before serving. !

Notes

You don't have to peel peaches if that is what you prefer. Use two 15-ounce canned peaches with their juices if you are using canned peaches. Don't drain the juices. Use 2 pounds of frozen peaches, but make sure to thaw the fruit before adding it to the brown sugar.

How to make Peach Cobbler: Step by step photos

Add the peaches with their juices to a large skillet on medium heat. The juices should be cooked for 5 minutes. Add 1 teaspoon cornstarch to 1 tablespoon lemon juice and create a slurry. Then add the slurry to the peaches, mixing well. Bring the peaches to a boil on medium-high heat.

Remove the pan from the heat when the juices are thick enough to separate with a spoon (about 5 minutes).

Add the peaches cooked and their juices into the dish.

Mix 1 1/2 cups of flour, 1 cup of sugar, 1/2 cup of toasted almonds sliced, 1 1/2 teaspoons of baking powder, 1/4 tablespoon cinnamon, 1 pinch each nutmeg and 1/4 teaspoons salted in a large mixing bowl. Mix 1 cup of milk with 1 teaspoon of vanilla until batter is formed.

Pour the batter over the peaches. The butter will rise. I like a crispy, buttery topping so I do not stir the batter in with the peaches. You can mix the batter lightly with the peaches if you want some peaches to show through.

Bake for 35 minutes or until golden brown. Allow it to cool down for a few moments before serving. Collect ALL of the compliments. Top it with whipped cream or ice cream for the ultimate experience!
