Smoothies are my go-to breakfast when I'm pressed for time. These smoothies are refreshing, tasty, and easy to prepare. They make a great midday snack or simple breakfast. This Mixed Berry Smoothie is one of my favorite smoothies. I have been making them for a while and I find myself always coming back to it. This smoothie is rich, creamy and packed with fruit. It's also cheaper than Smoothie king!
Ingredients for Mixed Berry Smoothie
This smoothie is easy to make and flexible. Here's the ingredients we used:
- Frozen Mixed Berry:Frozen fruits are the key to a thick and creamy smoothie without ice. We used a mixture of frozen blackberries, strawberries and raspberries for the berries. You can use any frozen berry combination you want. Frozen berries can be cheaper than fresh berries, as they won't spoil in the fridge.
- Banana : Use a frozen or fresh banana for this smoothie recipe. I chose a frozen banana in order to keep my smoothie from melting and make it extra thick.
- Almond milk: You can use any kind of milk, dairy or non-dairy, for your smoothie.
- Yogurt A small amount of yogurt will give the smoothie an amazing creamy texture. The plain yogurt was used, but vanilla yogurt would be equally delicious.
- Vanilla Extract & Sugar: Add a little vanilla and sugar to your favorite recipes for sweetness and flavor. You can substitute honey for the sugar. If you are using vanilla yogurt or vanilla almondmilk, you can skip the vanilla extract.
What else can I add to my smoothie?
You can add a variety of ingredients to this mixed-berry smoothie to give it extra nutrition and make it filling. Here are some ideas:
- Quick oats
- Ground flaxseed
- Chia seeds
- Hemp seeds
- Spinach
- Kale
- Honey (instead of sugar)
Smoothie bowls are easy to make!
This mixed berry recipe makes delicious smoothie bowls. The smoothie is the foundation for the bowl. You can then top it with delicious toppings such as fresh fruit, seeds or granola and drizzle some honey. Smoothie Bowls are a great way to use up leftovers in the fridge or pantry. These are also very filling, and a great way to transform a breakfast smoothie into an energizing sweet treat. ;)
Money-Saving Tip!
You can often find great deals on fresh berries when they are in season. Berries are mostly in season during the Summer and early Fall months. Use this time to grab your favorite berries when they are on sale and freeze them for later! Sometimes I even go strawberry picking with my little ones in the month of May, then freeze some of the strawberries to use the rest of the year.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is organic food healthy?
There are two types of foods; those we grow ourselves and those we buy from someone else. Of course, there are exceptions to both categories, but for the most part, the answer to your question is yes. Organic food is healthier than conventional food because it doesn’t contain harmful chemicals, pesticides or herbicides. It also doesn’t contain preservatives or genetically modified organisms.
In supermarkets all over North America, Europe Asia, Latin America, Latin America, and Africa, you can find organic food. Most grocery stores now carry organic food, making it easier for consumers to choose organic products.
Organic food is also better tasting and more nutritious because it contains higher levels of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. Organics are often grown without pesticides and synthetic fertilizers. This means that they do not pollute the soil and water sources.
The USDA regulates organic agriculture practices. This means that farmers must adhere to strict guidelines to make sure organic produce is safe to consume. There are currently more than 30,000,000 acres of US farmland which have been designated organic.
Organic food is often more affordable than conventional food. Consumers are paying less for the same amount of calories, protein, and nutrients. Organic farms are free to charge less for their crops, as they don't need to pay expensive chemical inputs such insecticides orfungicides.
According to the Environmental Working Group (EWG), organic food actually costs 10% less per pound. You can make a change to organic food if your family is concerned about their health.
Organic food is becoming a popular option to the standard American diet. While many believe organic food can only come from specialty markets and fine dining restaurants, it is not true. Organic food can be purchased in most grocery stores across the United States.
In recent years, organic food sales have been on the rise. The market value of organic food in the US was $43 billion in 2012, up from $21 billion in 2007.
How can I determine if my produce was organic?
These three labels are essential if you want to be certain that you are purchasing organic produce.
USDA Organic Certified- This product has been certified organic by the USDA.
Certified Naturally Grown - Produce that has passed strict requirements for organic practices but has not yet received certification from the USDA.
Pastured/Free Range - Produce from animals who live outdoors and graze freely on grass and herbs.
These labels indicate that the product meets certain criteria.
- No synthetic fertilizers or pesticides
- No genetically altered organisms
- Animals are not given antibiotics.
- No hormones are ever given to the animal
- No growth-promoting drugs
- No feed additives
- No artificial ingredients
- No irradiation
- No sewage solids
- GMOs banned
- There have never been any antibiotics given.
- No hormones ever given
- No growth-promoting drugs
- No feed additives
- No artificial ingredients
- No sewage effluent (if it isn't a GMO).
- No irradiation
I hope this article has been helpful.
What is organic food?
Organic food is grown without pesticides and artificial fertilizers. These chemicals can be harmful for your health.
Organic food is organically grown without the use of harmful chemicals such as pesticides or herbicides. These chemicals may cause damage to animals as well as humans.
Inorganic food is meat, fish, eggs and dairy products, including butter, yogurts honey, yogurts, butter, cream, cheese, butter, yogurts, honey and grains.
Organic refers the way an agricultural product grows. Organic farming uses natural methods to grow crops. Conventional farming uses pesticides and synthetic fertilizers.
U.S. Department of Agriculture guidelines must be followed when organic food is labeled. According to the National Organic Program Standards all organic food must be free of banned materials such as antibiotics growth hormones genetically modified organisms GMOs, and industrial solvents. Organic food must not be produced with toxic chemicals, petroleum or sewage sludges or ionizing radioactive substances.
What's the difference?
Organic food is made without chemical fertilizers or pesticides. Organic farming practices improve soil health and water quality as well as animal welfare.
Inorganic food is grown with pesticides and chemical fertilizers. Radiated foods are those that have been exposed to radiation. Genetically modified organisms, or GMOs, are created using biological engineering techniques.
"Organic" and "natural" are often interchangeable. Natural does not necessarily have to mean organic. Products labelled "natural", however, may contain synthetic chemicals.
Organic produce is typically more nutritious than conventional produce because the soil contains fewer harmful chemicals and pesticides. Organic farmers are free from artificial fertilizers and pesticides.
Why should I buy organic?
Many health issues have been linked to conventional agriculture, including obesity, diabetes and cancer. Healthy choices must be made when purchasing food.
The Environmental Working Group has the following tips for choosing "cleaner" food.
As much as possible, purchase organic fruits or vegetables
USDA organic labels can be found on meat, poultry (eggs, eggs), milk, cheese and yogurt as well.
Avoid processed foods labeled as "natural" or "no additives."
Make sure you read through all the ingredients. It is possible to add an ingredient during processing if it isn't already listed.
It is better to eat fresh meats than canned or frozen. Frozen and canned foods often contain less nutrient-rich ingredients like high fructose corn syrup.
Statistics
- As for organic meat, regulations require that animals be raised in living conditions that accommodate their natural behaviours (like the ability to graze on pasture), fed 100% organic feed and forage, and not administered antibiotics or hormones. (usda.gov)
- Once certified by the USDA, it can fall into one of four categories: "100 percent organic", "organic," "made with organic ingredients," or "made with less than 70 percent organic ingredients. (en.wikipedia.org)
- According to a study performed by consumerreports.org, organic products, compared to non-organic products, ranged anywhere from 13 percent cheaper to 303 percent more expensive. (en.wikipedia.org)
- Brands participating in this challenge are committed to using 100 percent sustainable cotton by 2025.[5] (en.wikipedia.org)

How To
How to buy organic meat even on a tight budget
In this post, I'll share tips and tricks on buying organic meat without breaking your bank account.
Here are my tips for finding cheap organic meats. I'll also tell you how much each pound costs. This will teach you how to get the most out of your purchase.
It doesn't take a lot to eat healthy. Sometimes, it takes a bit of creativity to save money while eating well. Here's my list of ways to keep your food costs down while enjoying organic meat's benefits.
- Buy bulk food at wholesale clubs. Sams Club and Costco both offer great options for buying bulk foods like pork chops and chicken breasts. You can often find deals on large quantities (up to 50 pounds) if you live close to one of these stores. This way you won't end up with any leftover meat. You can also freeze the meat if you buy it bulk.
- Online shopping is a great way to find meat at a discounted price. Amazon has Prime Pantry, a weekly sale that offers free shipping for orders over $35. You can get discounts on ground beef, beef roasts, lamb steaks and pork loins. It is easy to browse their website and check out what is on offer at different times.
- Local farmers will usually be cheaper than big-box retailers since they don't pay large fees to stock their shelves. They also know what their animals ate and drink so they can tell exactly what is inside.
- You should look for the leanest cuts of meat. Lean meat is typically cheaper to cook than fatty. Look for the tiniest cuts. The most common ones are sirloin steak, tenderloin roast, top round steak, and flank steak. These cuts are very low in fat and high in protein.
- You don't have to be afraid to try new recipes. It's possible to reduce grocery expenses by cooking new recipes using ingredients you've never tried before. You might be amazed at the delicious recipes you can create with fresh tomatoes and onions, garlic, olive oils, and spices.
- Make your leftovers creative - You can make sandwiches, soups, casseroles, and other dishes with leftover meat or poultry. Leftover meat is perfect for making quick lunches or dinners.
That's it! Here are some tips on how you can afford organic meat despite being on a strict budget. Are you able to offer any additional tips? What other tips do you have for me?
