When I first saw the little gray shrimp at the supermarket I wondered, "Who in their right minds would want to eat that?" Then, the magic happened. These little guys changed from a dull gray color to a vibrant pinkish, orangey red in just a few minutes after they were placed in the pan.

The flavor came. Then, seasonings and spices were added. They went from being something that you would find at the bottom of an ocean to something you can order in the best restaurants in just a matter of minutes.

There are many ways to cook shrimp, but this recipe focuses on one of the most basic: simple sauteed shrimp.

Is Sauteed Shrimp Healthy?

Shrimps are a great source of omega-3 fatty acid and high-quality protein. The extra virgin olive oil will increase the healthy fats, and the parsley provides vitamins and minerals. There is a little butter in this recipe, but it's a tiny amount that adds so much flavor.

Ingredients

You only need the shrimp to cook it (natch!) Olive oil and shrimp are all you need to cook the shrimp. All the other ingredients are seasonings and spices that will make the shrimp taste good.

  • 1 lb. large shrimp deveined and peeled
  • Smoked paprika Powder 1 tsp
  • Salt and pepper pinch
  • Half a teaspoon of garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp cumin Powder
  • 1 tbsp cold butter
  • Extra virgin olive oil 2 tablespoons
  • Parsley bunch

Instrucciones

Prep

Peel and devein the shrimp leaving the tail intact. After the shrimp have been cleaned, dry them with a paper towels and then place them in a bowl.

Marinate

Mix the spices well in a small dish. Marinate the shrimp in the olive oil and spices.

Saute

Heated a skillet to HIGH. Add the shrimp evenly in a single layer. After 2 minutes, flip the shrimp over and cook another 2 minutes. Add the cold butter after turning off the heat.

Garnish

Transfer the shrimps to a serving plate, and top with parsley and lemon wedges.

  • To get a bitterer flavor, substitute the lime for lemon.
  • You can substitute parsley for other herbs like fresh mint or chervil.
