Nothing says to me "Summer has arrived!" more than a rack of succulent BBQ Ribs. Of. The. Sides. You may not have a barbecue or backyard or the desire to stand in the sun near a fire. First of all, I'm here. You don't have to use a fancy grill in order to make BBQ Ribs that are juicy, tender and fall off the bone. You only need a baking sheet, foil and patience to make oven-baked BBQ ribs that will have your family asking for more. PS. This recipe is perfect for Father's Day or the Fourth Of July. It's also great for a summer BBQ. Save it now!
What you will need to cook BBQ Ribs
Are you ready for a grill-free meal? You'll need these ingredients to bake delicious barbecue ribs in the oven. They'll leave you wanting more!
- Ribs - Your choice: Baby back, spare, St. Louis, short... you name it. This simple recipe can be used to make any 3-pound rack of ribs, though the cooking times may vary.
- Barbecue Sauce - We have a great Homemade BBQ Sauce recipe if you'd like to make it yourself, but any BBQ Sauce will work. The sauce not only adds deep flavors but also caramelizes the outer layer of the ribs to make them mouth-wateringly delicious.
- Spices - A rub is essential if you are looking to give your ribs a deep flavor. We will be making our own rub using salt, pepper and smoked paprika. You can also use your favorite brand.
- Butter: Mixing the dry rub with melted lard butter will help the seasoning stick to the ribs while they are baking. Butter adds flavor to your ribs and prevents them from drying out.
- Liquid - Adding liquid to the pan can help prevent your ribs drying out. Water, chicken broth or apple juice will work well if you are making pork ribs.
How to Pick Ribs
Here are some helpful tips for selecting ribs.
- Find ribs with meaty texture and the same thickness all along. You can feel the amount of meat on the rib by pressing your finger into it.
- It is important to look for ribs that are marbled with fat throughout. This keeps the ribs juicy and adds flavour. Avoid ribs that have large clumps or fat. They add to the cost and weight of the rack, but must be trimmed prior to baking.
- It is important that the ribs are about the same thickness and size from one end to another. This will ensure even cooking. You'll naturally have some tapering on one end. However, avoid racks that are significantly different in size from end to the other.
- Buy at least 3-4 ribs for each serving.

How to Store and Reheat Ribs
Wrap tightly wrapped ribs in foil or plastic and place in an airtight container. Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up three days, or in the freezing for up three months. For reheating from frozen, defrost the ribs overnight in your refrigerator. Bring the ribs up to room temperature before cooking. Preheat your oven to about 250degF. Fill a sheet pan a few cups with water and line it with a rack. Wrap the ribs with foil and place them on a baking sheet. Heat for 20-30 minutes, or until they are steaming.
BBQ Ribs
Equipment
-
Enamelware Sheet Pan
-
Wire Cooling Racks
Ingredients
- 3 lbs pork ribs $8.82
- 4 Tbsp butter, melted $0.37
- 2 tsp salt $0.10
- 1 tsp black pepper $0.10
- 2 tsp garlic powder $0.20
- 2 tsp onion powder $0.20
- 2 tsp smoked paprika $0.20
- 1 Tbsp brown sugar $0.04
- 2 tsp cayenne $0.20
- 2 tsp ground mustard $0.20
- 3 cups chicken broth $0.39
- 1 1/2 cups BBQ sauce $0.94
Instructions
-
Set the oven to 300degF and place a rack in the middle. Trim excess fat from the ribs. Trim the thicker part to equalize the thickness. Cook the trimmed meat along with the ribs to earn a bonus. Then flip the ribs and remove the silvery membrane on the back.
-
Place a cooling rack on top of a sheet pan with a thickness of at least 2 inches. If you don't have a cooling tray, crumple up a sheet of aluminum into a donut-sized roll that is at least two inches thick. The ribs should be placed on the rack. With a paper towel, remove any excess moisture.
-
To make a rub, combine salt, pepper and garlic powder with onion powder, smoked-paprika powder, brown sugar, cayenne pepper, mustard powder, and butter.
-
Spread the seasoning in a generous layer on the top meaty part of the ribs.
-
Be careful not to spill the broth on the ribs. Place the sheet pan into the oven. Reduce the temperature to 250degF. Bake for 30 minutes uncovered.
-
Wrap the ribs with aluminum foil, and bake them for 60 minutes. Rotate the sheet pan halfway through.
-
Remove the foil and brush 1 cup of BBQ sauce over the ribs. Bake an additional 30 minutes, or until tender. Each rack is unique. When a fork easily removes the meat from the bone, the ribs are done.
-
Turn on the broiler in your oven. Brush the ribs lightly with an extra 1/2 Cup of bbq and broil for a few moments, until you see a slight char. The ribs should be removed from the oven after 15 minutes and allowed to rest. Serve the ribs and don't lick your hands!

How to Make BBQ Ribs – Step by Step Pictures
Set a rack at the center of your oven. Preheat the oven to 300degF. Trim the ribs and remove any large clumps. Trim the thicker part to equalize the thickness, and then cook the meat that has been trimmed along with the ribs. Cook's bonus! Remove the silvery membrane on the backside of the ribs by turning them over. The skin becomes rubbery after cooking. Cut the skin with a small, sharp knife.
Place a rack on a sheet pan lined with heavy duty aluminum foil. The ribs should be placed on the rack. If you don't have a cooling tray, crumple up a sheet of aluminum into a donut the size of a cooling tray that is at least two inches thick. Place the trimmed ribs onto the cooling rack or donut made of aluminum. With a paper towel, remove any moisture that may have accumulated.
Rub: Combine 2 teaspoons salt, 1 teaspoon pepper, 2 tablespoons garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika and smoked sugar with 1 tablespoon brown sugar, cayenne pepper, mustard powder, 2 tablespoons, and 4 tablespoons melted butter.
Rub generously the seasoning all over the top meaty part of the ribs.
Be careful not to spill the broth on the ribs. Place the sheet pan into the oven. Reduce the temperature to 250degF. Bake for 30 minutes uncovered. Rotate the sheet pan from front to back and cover the ribs with aluminum foil. Then bake for 30 more minutes. Rotate the sheet pan and continue baking for 30 additional minutes.
Remove the foil and brush 1 cup of BBQ sauce over the ribs. Bake an additional 30 minutes, or until tender. Each rack is unique. When a fork easily removes the meat from the bone, the ribs are done.
Turn on the broil setting in your oven. Brush the ribs again with 1/2 cup bbq and broil for a few moments, until you see a slight char. The ribs should be removed from the oven after 15 minutes and allowed to rest. Serve the ribs and don't lick your hands!

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between organic and inorganic foods?
Organic food is free from pesticides, chemical fertilizers and sewage sludge. It can also be grown without irradiation or genetic modification. Organic farming practices are good for soil health, water quality, animal welfare, and the environment.
Inorganic foods can be grown using pesticides, chemical fertilizers and sewage sludge. Irradiated foods are treated with radiation; genetically modified organisms (GMO) are created through biological engineering techniques.
"Organic" and "natural" are often interchangeable. But natural does not necessarily imply organic. There are also products labelled "natural" which may contain synthetic ingredients.
Organic produce is more nutritious than traditional produce due to the fact that it contains less harmful chemicals and pesticides. Organic farmers are free from artificial fertilizers and pesticides.
What are some of the benefits of organic agriculture?
Organic farming provides farmers with a way of producing food without using chemicals. Farmers don't need to worry that harmful pesticides could harm their crops or animals.
Organic farming allows for natural fertilizers to be used. These fertilizers help to grow healthy plants and help to reduce the amount of chemical waste produced.
Organic farming is also beneficial for the environment. Farmers often use composting techniques to recycle nutrients back into the soil. This reduces pollutants and conserves precious resources.
As well as helping the environment, organic farming increases crop yields. This is because organic agriculture uses less water in the growing season.
Organic production methods also mean that farmers receive higher prices for their produce. Consumers who are more informed about the dangers of pesticides or chemical fertilizers will demand healthier food.
This has increased the demand for organic foods. Organic farming has become increasingly popular.
Why should I buy organic?
Many health issues have been linked to conventional agriculture, including obesity, diabetes and cancer. It is important to make informed choices about food purchases.
Here are some tips from the Environmental Working Group (EWG).
When possible, buy organic fruits and veggies
USDA organic labels are required for meat, poultry, eggs and milk.
Avoid processed foods labeled as "natural" or "no additives."
Carefully review ingredient lists. If an ingredient doesn't appear on the list, it could be added to the product during processing.
Frozen and canned meats should be preferred to fresh. Many frozen and canned foods contain less nutrients, like high fructose Corn Syrup.
Is organic a guarantee that the product is pesticide-free
Organic food is organic and free of pesticides. This means that organic food is often free of pesticides and fertilizers.
Because organic produce is free of harmful additives, it also has more nutrients than conventionally grown foods.
The USDA National Organic Program requires that organic farming practices be followed by farmers.
These guidelines cover soil preparation, crop rotation and pest control. They also include water conservation and harvesting techniques.
In addition, organic farming methods promote healthy ecosystems, which benefit wildlife and natural habitats.
Why is organic food so important?
Organic produce is important for our health. Organic produce is the best way to eat healthy foods. It's not only better for us but also it's more sustainable as it doesn't rely upon pesticides and fertilers.
Organic farming is a natural method of growing crops that uses no harmful chemicals. This reduces the risk of environmental pollution, which makes it safer for people and animals. Organic food is a way to help the environment and protect yourself.
But organic food offers more than just health benefits. We all know how unhealthy processed foods can make us feel. You might not know this, but organic fruits and vegetables don't have to be treated with chemicals. It means that organic fruits and vegetables taste better, last longer, and are brighter.
Because of this, organic foods are so important. Organic food is not only healthier for you but also for the whole world.

How To
What you should know about organic food
Organic foods come from plants and animals without chemical fertilizers, pesticides, or additives. They are made without genetic engineering and the application of ionizing radiance. The food must contain no artificial ingredients, colourings, flavour enhancers, or preservatives. It must not contain genetically modified organisms (GMOs).
The term "organic" was first used in 1845 when chemist Justus von Liebig coined the word "organisch" meaning life-giving, to describe the properties of manure. The term organic is often associated with food production. Organic means the product has only natural substances like proteins, carbohydrates, and fats that are found in nature.
Over the past decade, organic products have seen a dramatic increase in consumption. According to recent statistics, around 50% of the world's population consumes at least one organic product daily. This figure is on the rise and it is predicted to grow to 70%, 88%, and 90% in 2020.
There are many reasons that organic products are chosen by consumers. Some consumers prefer organic products for the taste. Other people prefer them because organic produce is more nutritious. Still others believe organic farming is better for the environment. However, there are also ethical concerns regarding the treatment of farm workers and animals, which is why some consumers opt for non-organic products.
While organic food is generally more expensive than traditional foods, prices do vary depending upon where you live. The price of organic food is affected by several factors. One factor is whether there are enough land available for organic farming. Another factor is the cost of inputs, labour and materials required for organic agriculture. Other factors include transportation costs, marketing costs, and taxes. In Europe, for instance, the average price for organic food in Europe is 10% higher than its regular price.
The main differences between organic and conventional foods are summarized below.
- Organic produce is free from synthetic fertilizers, growth regulators, hormones, and antibiotics.
- Organic livestock is fed a diet based on grasses and grains rather than corn and soybean meals.
- Organic milk comes only from cows who are fed hay and pasture grasses all-naturally.
- All raw materials used in organic manufacturing processes are certified organic.
- Organic fruits, vegetables and their processing stages are free from pesticides and harmful chemicals.
- Organic meat, poultry and seafood are not subject to radiation.
- Before using raw nuts or seeds, they must be soaked.
- Only healthy oils are used in organic cooking.
- Organic eggs are laid outdoors by hens.
- Honey is extracted using traditional methods by bees.
- Organic chocolate contains beans and sugar from organically grown and processed cacao.
- Organic wines do not contain any chemical additives.
- Organic tea leaves come from plants picked by hand.
- Organic cotton is not treated with pesticides.
- Organic flours and cereals are free from artificial colours, preservatives, or flavors.
- All natural soaps and shampoos do not contain harsh chemicals.
- All-natural cosmetics are safe and gentle for your skin.
- All natural cleaning products are biodegradable, eco-friendly, and non-toxic.
- All natural body care products are hypoallergenic and dermatologically tested.
- All-natural personal hygiene products have no fragrance and can be used safely for babies.
- The all-natural baby formula does not contain animal rennet or bovine serum.
