According to OTA the volume of organic products sold at supermarkets grew by 14% in 2010 and 2011.

This increase is due to consumers' demand for healthier foods. It is why organic food sales are growing across all ages.

Younger generations are choosing organic food more often than older generations. Millennials are twice as likely than baby boomers to buy organic foods. And young adults under 35 years old account for 25% of all organic food purchases.


What are organic foods?

Organic produce can be grown without the use of pesticides or synthetic fertilizers. No growth hormones or animal testing are done. These crops are allowed to grow naturally, so farmers do not use chemicals to prevent weeds or pests.

Organic farming practices preserve soil quality and help conserve water resources. Organic foods are healthier than conventional foods because they have more nutrients. Organic products have a higher fiber content and are lower in calories and fat than conventionally manufactured ones.


What is the difference between organic food and inorganic?

Organic food is free from pesticides, chemical fertilizers and sewage sludge. It can also be grown without irradiation or genetic modification. Organic farming practices contribute to soil health, water purity, and animal welfare.

Inorganic foods may be grown with chemical fertilizers, pesticides, or sewage sludge. Radiation is used to treat irradiated food; biological engineering techniques are used to create genetically modified organisms (GMO).

Organic foods are free from pesticides and synthetic fertilisers. They contain no genetically modified or irradiated food ingredients. Their production does not use sewage sludge and industrial solvents. During the course of its growth cycle, the natural environment of the food is protected from contamination. It does not contain artificial preservatives or additives. There is no use hormones or anti-biotics. They are also made in conditions that maintain their nutritional value and freshness for longer times.

  1. Health benefits. Organic produce contains less chemicals than nonorganic. This means that it is less likely to cause allergies. It also means that you consume less toxic chemicals and carcinogens.
