Frequently Asked Questions

What are organic beauty items?

Organic Beauty Products are natural products that do not contain any synthetic chemicals, including parabens. Phenoxyethanol, phthalates and artificial preservatives. These ingredients are found in most conventional beauty products, including cosmetics, perfumes, shampoos, etc.

Organic beauty products are not tested on animals and contain no genetically modified organisms.

The USDA defines the term' organic' as "a system of production that fosters cycling of resources" and has been used for decades to describe foodstuffs grown without pesticides.

Due to the adverse effects of chemicals on our bodies, there has been a growing demand for eco-friendly cosmetics in recent years.

These include cancer, allergies and skin irritation.

Organic beauty businesses are committed to providing safe, healthy products that consumers can use while protecting the environment.

What are the advantages of organic farming?

Organic farming is a way for farmers to grow food naturally without the use chemicals. Organic farming is a way for farmers to produce food without using harmful pesticides.

Organic farming also allows for more natural fertilizers. These fertilizers are good for plants that are healthy and reduce chemical waste.

Organic farming is also beneficial for the environment. To recycle nutrients back into soil, farmers often resort to composting. This reduces pollution and conserves valuable resources.

Organic farming also helps the environment by increasing crop yields. This is because organic agriculture uses less water in the growing season.

Organic production methods result in farmers receiving higher prices. Consumers who are more aware about the dangers associated with pesticides, chemical fertilizers, and other chemicals will choose healthier foods.

This increases demand for organic food products. For these reasons, organic farming is becoming increasingly popular.

Why is organic produce important?

Our health is dependent on organic produce. It is the best way for us to eat healthy food. Not only is it better for us, but it's also more environmentally friendly because it doesn't rely on pesticides and fertilizers.

Organic farming relies on natural methods to cultivate crops, without the use of harmful chemicals. This reduces the risk of environmental pollution, which makes it safer for people and animals. Organic food is a way to help the environment and protect yourself.

But organic food offers more than just health benefits. We all know how toxic processed food can make you feel. However, organic fruits & vegetables aren’t treated with chemical sprays. This means they are more fresh tasting, last longer and look better.

This is why organic food is so important. Because it's not only healthy for you, it's healthier for the world.

What is organic?

Organic meat is food that has not been treated with pesticides or artificial fertilizers. It also means the animals were not fed any genetically modified foods. The meat is safe to consume because it contains no harmful chemicals.

Organic meats are also healthier for the environment. We reduce the amount of pollution in our rivers, lakes, and landfills by eating organic food. Organic farmers generally don't use toxic chemicals that kill birds and insects. We help to protect wildlife.

It is best to buy organic meats locally as much as possible. Local purchasing helps keep money local, not out of the state. Local businesses often pass savings on to customers who shop locally. Shopping locally keeps American jobs in America, rather than sending them abroad.

Why should I go organic?

Conventional agriculture has been linked to several health problems, including asthma, allergies, obesity, diabetes, cancer, birth defects, hormone imbalances, and other diseases. You must make healthy choices when buying food.

The Environmental Working Group (EWG) offers the following tips on how to pick "cleaner" food:

Always buy organic fruits & vegetables.

USDA organic labels should be used on meat, poultry and eggs as well as milk, cheese, yogurt, butter, honey, and other dairy products.

Avoid processed foods that claim to be "natural" and "no additives."

Always read the ingredient lists. If an ingredient isn't listed, it may be added during processing.

You should choose fresh meats rather than frozen or canned. Frozen and canned foods often contain less nutrient-rich ingredients like high fructose corn syrup.

What are my top priorities when buying organic products

Look for USDA-certified organic labels. This guarantees that the product meets certain USDA standards. Look out for the USDA Organic seal on boxes, cartons cans and jars.

When shopping for meat, ensure it comes from cows fed 100% organic feed. Cattle are ruminants, which means they chew the cud. Ruminant cattle have 4 stomach compartments: Rumen, reticulum and omasum. All parts of an animal must be organically fed if the cow is going to be labelled '100% organic.'

You should only purchase chicken that has been raised organically. It must not have ever been treated with antibiotics. Chickens can eat both animal and plant food. Omnivorous chickens possess a digestive tract made up of a crop.

You should ensure you only buy dairy products made from milk that has been produced by cows who have been fed 100% organically grown food. Like ruminants and dairy cows, they have four stomach compartments. The fourth stomach compartment, the udder, is where milk comes from.

Check the label when purchasing livestock of any other type to find out what percentage was used in the animal's diet. Pork may be labeled "95% Organic" which means that 95 percent of its feed was organic.

Organic means it is free from pesticides?

Organic food is free from pesticides and chemical fertilizers. This means there is little or no exposure to chemicals such as fertilizers and herbicides.

Organic produce contains more nutrients and is healthier than conventionally manufactured foods, as it does not contain any harmful additives.

The USDA National Organic Program (NOP), requires that farmers follow strict guidelines when growing organic crops.

These guidelines include soil preparation and crop rotation, pest management, water conservation, as well as harvesting practices.

Organic farming methods are also beneficial for wildlife and natural habitats.

Statistics

  • According to a study performed by consumerreports.org, organic products, compared to non-organic products, ranged anywhere from 13 percent cheaper to 303 percent more expensive. (en.wikipedia.org)
  • As for organic meat, regulations require that animals be raised in living conditions that accommodate their natural behaviours (like the ability to graze on pasture), fed 100% organic feed and forage, and not administered antibiotics or hormones. (usda.gov)
  • Once certified by the USDA, it can fall into one of four categories: "100 percent organic", "organic," "made with organic ingredients," or "made with less than 70 percent organic ingredients. (en.wikipedia.org)
  • Nutrients like omega-3 fatty acids were up to 50 percent higher in organic meats and milk than in conventionally raised products.[3] (en.wikipedia.org)

How To

Organic foods: Are they safer and more nutritious?

Organic foods are made without the use or synthetic fertilizers. They are grown in natural conditions and without the use of any artificial inputs like fungicides or herbicides. Organic farming practices include crop rotation and cover crops, the composting of animal manure, the recycling of wastewater, as well as integrated pest management (IPM).

In 2002, USDA National Organic Programs (NOP) were established to regulate the production and handling of organic products that are sold in the United States. The NOP regulations ensure that organic agricultural products are produced according to federal standards outlined in the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act. Additionally, organic products must not contain prohibited substances like pesticide residues or genetically modified organisms.

The United States offers two certification programs for producers that want their products to be certified organic: one for farmers, ranchers and the other for manufacturers. Both programs require audits of operations each year to ensure that they are meeting strict standards. These services are offered by several certifying agencies, including CCOF Certified Organic Farmers & Ranchers and Quality Assurance International. These three organizations provide third party verification of farms following strict guidelines on environmental stewardship. labour practices, and animal care.

According to the USDA's Economic Research Service, organic agriculture accounted for $4.7 billion in sales in 2013. It was a 23 percent rise in retail spending for certified organic products since 2009. Groceries sales increased by 12 per cent during this time. Spending directly on organic produce grew by 29 percent while that on meat, poultry, eggs and seafood only grew by 1 percent.

While organic food may be more expensive, consumers think its superior quality justifies the higher price. According to a 2015 survey conducted by Consumer Reports, 88 percent of respondents said they would pay more for organic food if it meant higher nutritional value. Health Affairs also published a study showing that organic foods are less likely for people to get heart disease, diabetes, cancer, or obesity.

Although organic foods are not proven to prevent or treat certain diseases, some research suggests that they could improve overall health and reduce exposure to pesticides. A review of 31 studies that were published in 2010 found that organically raised beef has significantly lower levels than conventionally raised beef. A separate analysis of 11 studies published in 2012 reached similar conclusions.

The Environmental Working Group produced a 2014 report that compared organic and non-organic chickens, pork, beef and lamb. The group also noted that the incidence of human illnesses due to E. coli O157 declined among children and adults after 2006, when the USDA started requiring more stringent organic standards for animals raised for consumption.
