Frequently Asked Questions
How do you know if your food is organic?
Any chef will tell you fresh ingredients are more important than any other ingredient. This is because eating well makes us feel better.
The same is true of our food. We know where our organic food came from and how it has been grown. We also know that it didn't have any harmful chemicals.
Organic foods are made without the use of synthetic pesticides and fertilizers, hormones, steroids, antibiotics, or genetically altered organisms (GMO). These substances are forbidden for organic farmers.
However, organic farming is not an easy task. You have many options to safely grow them.
Sustainable agriculture is also known as organic farming. It is a less resource-intensive alternative to conventional farming, but still provides enough nutrients to sustain life.
Organic farming practices include crop rotation, composting manure, cover cropping, and intercropping. These practices help to prevent soil erosion and improve water purity.
They also reduce chemical contamination of waterways. Because most people live in urban areas, it is easy to find farms that grow organic produce.
There are two types for organic products certification. The USDA National Organic Program certifies one, while independent certifying agencies certification the other. Both require strict conformity to organic standards.
USDA seals, or O Seals, may be attached to certified organic products. These symbols indicate that the product meets federal requirements.
Is organic the same as pesticide-free?
Organic food is organic and free of pesticides. This means that organic food is often free of pesticides and fertilizers.
Organic produce also contains more nutrients than conventionally produced foods because it contains no harmful additives.
The USDA National Organic Program (NOP) requires farmers to follow strict guidelines for growing crops certified as organic.
These guidelines address soil preparation, crop rotations, pest control, water conservation, harvesting, and other practices.
Organic farming methods are also beneficial for wildlife and natural habitats.

How To
Five Reasons to Purchase Organic Products
Organic foods do not use pesticides or synthetic fertilisers. They are free from genetically modified organisms and irradiated substances. Their production processes do not include sewage or industrial solvents. During its growth, the food's natural environment remains unaffected by contamination. It is free of artificial preservatives and additives. There is no use of antibiotics or hormones. In addition, they are produced under conditions that allow them to retain their nutritional value and freshness for longer periods.
- Health benefits. Organic produce contains fewer chemicals than nonorganic produce. This means it's less likely to cause allergies and sensitivities. This also means that you are consuming less toxins and carcinogens.
- Eco-friendliness. Organic produce is low in water consumption. Organic farms are often located far from areas with high levels of pollution because it takes so much energy for conventional agriculture to grow. That helps reduce air pollution.
- Sustainability. Organic farming relies less on chemical fertilizers and more on soil fertility. This results with healthier soils with greater organic matter. The rotation of crops and the letting of land fallow can improve soil health. When farm animals eat only grasses and grains raised without any added hormones or antibiotics, they develop strong immune systems.
- Taste. Conventional fruits and vegetables often taste bland because they're picked at peak ripeness, then shipped long distances to grocery stores. Organic produce tastes sweeter and more rich because it was picked when it was still young.
- Nutrition. GMOs and BPA can be found in many processed foods. You can avoid them by sticking with whole foods such meat, fish, eggs, seafood, seeds and beans, as well as fruits, veggies, herbs, and vegetables.
