Frequently Asked Questions
What is organic food?
Organic food is not produced with pesticides or artificial fertilizers. These chemicals can be harmful for your health.
Organic food is free from harmful substances like pesticides and herbicides. These chemicals can cause harm to animals and humans.
Inorganic food can include meat, fish eggs, buttermilk cheese, buttermilk, yogurt, honey grains, vegetables, fruits spices, and herbs.
Organic refers to how an agricultural product was grown. Organic farming, for example, uses natural methods and soil amendments in order to grow crops. Conventional farming, however, uses pesticides and synthetic fertilizers.
U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), must ensure that organic food meets strict standards. All organic food must comply with the National Organic Program Standards. This means that it must not contain prohibited materials like antibiotics, growth hormones or genetically modified organisms (GMOs), as well as industrial solvents. Organic food must also be free from toxic chemicals, petroleum based fertilizers, sewage effluents and ionizing radiation.
What are the most loved organic products?
Today organic food is the fastest-growing sector. There is still much to be done, even though we have come so far from our roots.
Organic products are the future. Organic products are safer, more sustainable, and cheaper for consumers.
However, they are also more expensive. We created the Organic Food Index. We wanted to see which foods are most in demand today and how these trends are changing.
The results show that organic food is becoming increasingly popular. Between 2011 and 2012, the number of Americans who shop for organic food increased by almost 50%.
The USDA reports that organic production increased 10% last year. Organic food now accounts for 9% of U.S. agricultural output.
While organic food is certainly gaining ground, it seems that it is still an expensive choice for consumers. The Organic Trade Association (OTA) reports that organic food retail prices average almost double the price of conventional foods.
Organic food is growing faster that any other sector of the food industry. If you examine the data closely, you will see that organic foods have grown steadily in consumption since 2009.
According to OTA's data, organic products sold in supermarkets grew at 14% between 2010 - 2011.
This increase reflects consumer demand for healthier foods, which explains why organic food sales are increasing across all age groups.
However, the younger generation is leading the charge in choosing organic food. Millennials have twice the likelihood of buying organic food as baby boomers. The 25% of organic food purchase made by younger adults below 35 are made up of young adults.
What are organic foods?
Organic produce is free from synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, sewage sludge and confinement feeding. No growth hormones or animal testing are done. These crops are allowed to grow naturally, so farmers do not use chemicals to prevent weeds or pests.
Organic farming practices can also preserve soil quality by reducing erosion, and conserving water resources. Organic foods are healthier than conventional foods because they have more nutrients. Organic foods are often higher in fiber, lower in fat, and less calories than those produced conventionally.

How To
How to buy organic meat even on a tight budget
In this post, I'll share tips and tricks on buying organic meat without breaking your bank account.
I'll give you some tips about where to find organic meats at a low price and how much it costs per pound. You will learn how to make the best out of what you purchase.
For healthy eating, you don’t have to spend a lot. Sometimes, it takes a bit of creativity to save money while eating well. Here's my list to help you keep food costs low while still enjoying all the health benefits of organic meat.
- Shop at wholesale clubs - Sams Club or Costco are great places to buy bulk foods such as chicken breasts and pork chops. You may be able to get large quantities of meat for as low as 50 pounds if your home is near one of these stores. You won't have to waste meat. You can also freeze the meat if you buy it bulk.
- Look online to save money on meat. Amazon offers Prime Pantry, a weekly deal with free shipping on orders above $35. They offer discounts for beef roasts and ground beef as well as lamb steaks, lamb steaks, pork loins, and other items. You can browse their website and view what's on sale at different times.
- Local farmers often charge less than big box retailers due to the fact that they don't have large overheads for stocking their shelves. Local farmers also know exactly what their animals have eaten and drank so they can determine what's in their bodies.
- Choose lean cuts of meat - It is usually cheaper to cook lean meat than fatty. Therefore, choose the leanest cuts. The most commonly used cuts include flank steak, tenderloin and top round steaks. These cuts have high protein and low fat.
- You don't have to be afraid to try new recipes. One of the easiest ways to reduce your grocery bill is to start cooking meals with ingredients you haven't used before. You may be surprised by how many delicious dishes you can come up with using fresh tomatoes, onions, garlic, olive oil, and spices.
- Make your leftovers creative - You can make sandwiches, soups, casseroles, and other dishes with leftover meat or poultry. Leftover meat is perfect for making quick lunches or dinners.
So there you go! These are my top tips for how to get organic meat on a tight budget. Do you have any other tips? What other tips do you have for me?
