Nutrients like protein, vitamin C, zinc and iron can help keep your immune system functioning properly. [1]
Organic nuts are nutrient-dense, plant-based snacks and are a good source of proteins, minerals and healthy fats.
In addition, local farmers who grow organic nuts do not use pesticides that can pollute the soil and water supplies. This is better for the environment and workers in nut production.
1. Nutrients
A well-functioning immune system relies on a wide variety of nutrients. Different micronutrients have their own specific immune-supporting effects. [2, 3] A nutrient deficiency can impair immune function, making us more vulnerable to infection and reducing our ability to fight off infections.
A healthy eating pattern is the best way to provide your body with these immune-boosting nutrients. Ideally, we should obtain most of our vitamins and minerals from whole foods.
The colorful nutrients in the foods we eat are a powerful immune-supporting arsenal. For example, foods high in Vitamin C and Zinc, like fruits and vegetables, can boost immunity. In addition, eating a variety of plant-based foods helps the body absorb iron.
2. Antioxidants
You’ve heard the term ‘antioxidants’ all over the place as a health and wellness buzzword, but do you know how essential these immune-boosting powerhouses are? Antioxidants are the body’s defence system, a police force of compounds that operate against the DNA-attacking free radicals. They are a natural defence against inflammation and disease, bolstering immune cells, and increasing the concentration of antibodies and the function of our NK (natural killer) cells vii.
There are many antioxidants out there but the big ones you need to look for are vitamin C, beta-carotene and vitamin E. All of which can be found in colourful fruits and vegetables, including broccoli, purple cabbage, sweet potatoes, carrots and green leafy vegetables. Zinc is another immunosupporting nutrient that helps promote the growth and maturation of immune cells vii. It also supports the activity of immune defenders, B and T cells, by protecting them from oxidative stress. This nutrient is found in meat, dairy foods, legumes, nuts, seeds and whole grains.
3. Omega-3 Fatty Acids
The immune system is an orchestra of different cell types, all interacting in a delicate balance. This is why it is important to support immunity throughout life stages, from the early years through seniorhood.
Omega-3 fatty acids, such as docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), play an important role in supporting the function of immune cells. [60] EPA and DHA are incorporated into the phospholipids of neutrophils and convert to leukotrienes, thromboxanes, maresins, protectins, and resolvins, which have a variety of anti-inflammatory effects.
In vivo experiments with mice reveal that B cells from the spleen of mice fed on a diet rich in omega-3 fatty acids secrete less IL-6 than control cells following ex vivo activation. The underlying mechanism seems to involve a decrease in the signaling of B cells at the immunological synapse. Omega-3 fatty acids also modulate the function of neutrophils, reducing their migration and phagocytic capacity in a mouse model of sepsis.
4. Fiber
Nuts are loaded with protein, plant-based fats, fiber and a host of vitamins and minerals. However, conventionally grown nuts are sprayed with chemicals, and those chemicals enter the body when you consume them. Organic nuts are grown without synthetic pesticides, herbicides and fertilizers.
Dietary fiber is essential for human health1. A recent meta-analysis showed that higher dietary fiber intake was correlated with a lower incidence of Western diseases with anomalies in immune function2.
The specific functions of different types of dietary fiber have not been fully elucidated, but some evidence indicates that they may promote a tolerogenic mucosal environment and protect against allergic disorders3. The molecular pathways through which these effects are exerted are dependent on the microbial fermentation and secretion of bioactive metabolites of dietary fibers. Longitudinal studies with a cross-over design are needed to understand this relationship and identify the optimal prevention or treatment strategies involving fiber.8
Frequently Asked Questions
Are organic meats better?
This question is probably answered if you've been paying close attention. The problem is that organic food is increasingly popular, but conventional food continues its decline.
Organic foods continue to be popular because they offer a healthier alternative. Organic products are healthier for us and the environment.
There are many sides to this coin. Organic produce takes longer and requires more resources. Organic food is more expensive than non-organic.
Organic meats are generally more expensive than conventionally raised animals. There are however ways to lower these costs without sacrificing the quality of organic meats.
Buy locally to save money. Locally grown fruit and vegetables help lower the price of produce, as farmers are often given incentives to grow better crops.
Another way to cut costs is to look for deals. There are often discounts offered when purchasing organics.
Finally, another way to save money is by eating less meat. Meat production can be costly due to the feed needed to raise livestock.
There are many reasons organic foods are better for our bodies and the environment, but we need to be mindful of the cost.
How can you tell organic food from non-organic?
Fresh ingredients are essential for any chef. This is because eating well makes us feel better.
This is true for food as well. When we buy organics, we know exactly where it came from and how it was grown. We also know it was not treated using harmful chemicals.
Organic foods are made without the use of synthetic pesticides and fertilizers, hormones, steroids, antibiotics, or genetically altered organisms (GMO). These substances are not permitted to organic farmers.
There is no art in growing organic crops. There are many methods to safely grow them.
Organic farming is often called sustainable agriculture. This means that organic farming does not use as many resources as conventional methods, but it still provides the essential nutrients needed to sustain life.
Organic farming practices include crop rotations and cover crops, manure composting, intercropping, and cover cropping. These practices help to prevent soil erosion and improve water purity.
They also reduce chemical pollution of waterways. Since most of us live in urban areas, we can find local farms that raise organic produce.
There are two types certified programs for organic products. One is certified through the USDA National Organic Program and the other by independent certifying agents. Both require strict adherence to organic standards.
USDA seals and O Seals may be used to identify organic products that meet federal standards.
What is the difference between organic and inorganic foods?
Organic food is free from pesticides, chemical fertilizers and sewage sludge. It can also be grown without irradiation or genetic modification. Organic farming practices promote soil health, water quality and animal welfare.
Inorganic foods are produced using chemical fertilizers, pesticides, and sewage effluent. Irradiated foods are treated with radiation; genetically modified organisms (GMO) are created through biological engineering techniques.
The term "natural", often used interchangeably to mean "organic," is frequently used. But natural does not necessarily imply organic. There are also products labelled "natural" which may contain synthetic ingredients.
Organic produce is typically more nutritious than conventional produce because the soil contains fewer harmful chemicals and pesticides. Organic farmers do not use pesticides, artificial fertilizers, hormones, anti-biotics, and other harmful chemicals.
What are organic fruits?
Organic foods do not use pesticides, artificial fertilizers, hormones or antibiotics. They contain more nutrients such vitamins A, C. E, and, in some cases, omega-3 oils. These nutritious ingredients make organic foods better for our bodies, and for the planet.
Organic foods are produced with sustainable farming practices that promote soil quality and biological diversity. They are free from harmful chemicals, radiation, and sewage sludge.
Most people associate organics with fruits, but organic products also include dairy, meat and poultry, as well as baked goods, personal care items, pet food and household cleaning supplies.
According to the USDA, "organic" means that crops are raised in compliance with federal standards. These foods cannot be grown by farmers using conventional methods. However, they may use approved natural pest control methods, such as crop rotation and cover cropping, and animal feed made from organic materials.
In addition, the farmer must follow guidelines regarding how much fertilizer and pesticide he uses during the growing season and rotate his fields between various crops. GMOs (genetically modified organisms), synthetic growth hormones and insecticides as well as synthetic fertilizers are prohibited by farmers.
The requirements for organic fruits and vegetables are met if they are labeled 100 percent organic. But, not all farms label their produce as 100% organic. It would confuse consumers. They will instead label their product "made with organic ingredients." "
What are organic beauty items?
Organic Beauty Products are natural products that do not contain any synthetic chemicals, including parabens. Phenoxyethanol, phthalates and artificial preservatives. These ingredients are found in most conventional beauty products, including cosmetics, perfumes, shampoos, etc.
Organic beauty products are also free from animal testing and do not contain any genetically modified organisms (GMO).
The USDA defines organic food as "a system which fosters cycle of resources"; it has been used for decades by the USDA to describe foods that are grown without pesticides.
In recent years, there has been an increasing demand for eco-friendly beauty products because of the harmful effects of chemical substances on our bodies.
These include allergies, cancer, skin irritation, hormonal imbalance, early aging, and skin irritation.
Organic beauty products are created by companies that care about the environment and create safe, healthy products for customers.

How To
What Organic Foods Are You Looking For?
Organic foods are those that come from plants or animals, and do not contain any chemical pesticides, fertilizers, or additives. They are produced without genetic engineering or the application of ionizing radiation. The food must not contain artificial flavours, colours, flavour enhancements, or preservatives. It must not contain genetically modified organisms (GMOs).
In 1845, Justus Von Liebig, an aspiring chemist and entrepreneur, created the term "organic" to describe the properties found in manure. Most people associate organic with food production. Organic is a product that contains only naturally occurring substances, such a proteins, fats, or minerals.
Over the past decade, organic products have seen a dramatic increase in consumption. According to recent statistics, about 50% of the global population consumes at-least one organic product every day. This number increases constantly and is expected to reach 70%, 80%, and 90% by 2020.
Organic products are preferred for many reasons. Some like the taste, others prefer them because they believe organic produce is healthier, while some think organic farming is more environmentally friendly. Some consumers choose non-organic products because of ethical concerns about farm workers' and animal treatment.
While organic food is generally more expensive than traditional foods, prices do vary depending upon where you live. Organic food prices are affected by many factors. One factor is whether there are enough land available for organic farming. Another factor is the cost of inputs, labour and materials required for organic agriculture. There are other factors such as transportation costs, marketing and taxes. For example, in Europe, the average price of organic food is 10% higher than the regular price.
These are the main differences in organic and conventional food.
- Organic produce is free of chemicals, hormones, antibiotics, synthetic fertilizers, and growth regulators.
- Organic livestock is fed a diet based on grasses and grains rather than corn and soybean meals.
- Organic milk is only produced from cows that are fed all-natural hay and pasture grasses.
- All raw materials used for organic manufacturing are certified organic.
- Organic fruits or vegetables should not be grown in pesticide- or other harmful chemical environments.
- Organic meat, poultry and seafood are not subject to radiation.
- Raw nuts and seeds are soaked before use.
- Organic cooking uses only healthy oils.
- Organic eggs have been laid by hens and given access to outdoor areas.
- Organic honey is extracted by bees using traditional methods.
