Over the past decade, organic products have seen a dramatic increase in consumption. According to statistics, approximately 50% of the world’s population consumes at minimum one organic product each day. This number is rising and is expected increase to 70%, 90%, and 80% by 2020.
There are many factors that consumers choose organic produce. Some like the taste, others prefer them because they believe organic produce is healthier, while some think organic farming is more environmentally friendly. Some consumers choose non-organic products because of ethical concerns about farm workers' and animal treatment.
Organic food tends to be more expensive that conventional foods, but prices can vary depending upon the country or region. Organic food prices are affected by many factors. The availability of suitable land for organic agriculture is one factor. Another factor is the price of inputs as well as labour for organic farming.
