Carefully review ingredient lists. If an ingredient doesn't appear on the list, it could be added to the product during processing.

You should choose fresh meats rather than frozen or canned. Many frozen and canned foods contain less nutrients, like high fructose Corn Syrup.

According to the Environmental Working Group's latest report on pesticide residues in foods, organic fruits and vegetables had nearly half the level of pesticides compared with non-organic versions. Organic apples had eight times less pesticides than nonorganic apples. However, organic strawberries had four times the amount of pesticides as their conventional counterparts.

Another study suggests that organic food can reduce exposure to toxic metals such as lead and mercury. One study found that organic meats had 33 percent less lead in children than the levels of those who did not eat them. Another study concluded conventional fish consumption should be stopped by pregnant women because it contains high levels of mercury.

Organic food seems to be safer than the non-organic. However, to reduce your risk of cancer and other diseases, experts recommend choosing fresh fruit and vegetables whenever possible.

According to OTA, organic products sold in supermarkets grew 14% between 2010-2011.

This is because of consumer demand for healthier products, which explains the rise in organic food sales across all age categories.

However, younger generations are leading the charge when choosing organic food. Millennials are twice as likely than baby boomers to buy organic foods. Young adults aged below 35 account for 25%.

Organic food is becoming more popular today because it provides better nutrition and great tasting food. How do you convince people to spend a little more for organic food?

You could also tell them organic food is more expensive. This doesn't necessarily mean organic food tastes better. They might be suspicious of your motives.

Instead, highlight its strengths. Organic food is more nutritious, has fewer pesticides, and uses fewer antibiotics. Organic food is free from synthetic fertilizers and herbicides which makes it healthier for us as well as our environment.

Organic food is often avoided because it's too costly. They may find that spending just a few dollars per Week is worthwhile if they consider the health benefits.

Organic food tastes better, because it's made under strict guidelines to prevent contamination. It tends also to retain more vitamins and minerals.
