Organic products are the future. Organic products are safer and better for the environment. They also make it more affordable for consumers.

They are also generally more expensive. We created the Organic Food Index. We wanted to see which foods are most in demand today and how these trends are changing.

These results indicate that organic food is growing in popularity. Between 2011-2012, nearly half of Americans shopped for organic foods.

According to USDA, organic food production increased by 10% only last year. Currently, organic food accounts for 9% in the U.S. agricultural production.

Organic food is certainly on the rise but consumers are still not able to afford it. According to the Organic Trade Association, (OTA), organic food retail prices are nearly twice as expensive than conventional options.

That said, organic food is growing faster than any other segment of the food sector. If you examine the data closely, you will see that organic foods have grown steadily in consumption since 2009.

According to OTA's data, organic products sold in supermarkets grew at 14% between 2010 - 2011.

This increase is due to consumers' demand for healthier foods. It is why organic food sales are growing across all ages.

Younger generations are choosing organic food more often than older generations. Millennials are twice more likely to purchase organic food than baby boomers. Young adults aged below 35 account for 25%.

Organic food is not produced with pesticides or artificial fertilizers. These chemicals can be harmful for your health.

Organic refers to how an agricultural product was grown. For example, organic farming uses natural methods and soil amendments to grow crops, while conventional farming uses synthetic fertilizers and pesticides.

U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), must ensure that organic food meets strict standards. According to the National Organic Program Standards, all certified organic food must be free from prohibited materials such as antibiotics, growth hormones, genetically modified organisms (GMOs), and industrial solvents. Organic food must not contain toxic chemicals, petroleum-based fertilizers or sewage sludges.

Even though organic foods might not be for everyone, there are some health benefits. However, regular consumption of organic foods can have health benefits.

Organic food does not contain artificial fertilizers or pesticides. It also doesn't contain fungicides. Organic produce is free from harmful chemicals that could cause harm to human health.

Additionally, organic products are less likely to contain additives during processing. Organic products are likely to be healthier than nonorganic.

While organic farming is more expensive than traditional farming, it often produces better results. Organic farming encourages soil fertility and biodiversity.

This helps protect against erosion and conserve water resources. Organic farms don't use toxic chemicals and require less fuel and energy.

Some people worry that organic foods are more expensive than conventional ones. Prices can vary depending on where you live. Organic apples, on the other hand, tend to be more expensive that conventional apples.

However, organic fruit is more affordable if you compare the price of a basket of both types.

Should you buy organic?

It all depends upon who you are. It doesn't matter if organic food isn't for you.

USDA (United States Department of Agriculture), has strict requirements for agricultural products to be certified organic.

These guidelines ensure that consumers can access safe, wholesome, nutritious food.

Organic food has many benefits, including lower pesticide residues and higher levels of heavy metal contamination as well as better nutrition and flavor.

USDA organic products must carry the USDA Certified Organic seal.

This certification means the product has met the standards of the National Organic Program.

Organic food is not only healthier for us, but also protects our environment.

Organic farming techniques preserve water and land. Organic farming techniques also help to reduce greenhouse gas emissions which contributes to climate change.

How To

What you need to know about organic foods

Organic foods come from plants and animals without chemical fertilizers, pesticides, or additives. They can't be genetically modified or exposed to ionizing radiation. The food must not contain artificial flavours, colours, flavour enhancements, or preservatives. It must not contain genetically altered organisms (GMOs).

Organic products are preferred for many reasons. Some like the taste, others prefer them because they believe organic produce is healthier, while some think organic farming is more environmentally friendly. There are ethical concerns regarding farm workers and animals. This is why some people choose organic products.
