Frequently Asked Questions

Do organic foods offer health benefits?

Organic foods may not be healthy for everyone. There are certain health benefits to those who consume organic foods regularly.

Organic food is produced without artificial fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, hormones, antibiotics, or genetic engineering. Organic produce is not grown with harmful chemicals that could pose a risk to human health.

Organic products also have fewer additives. Organic products are more nutritious than those made from non-organic ingredients.

Studies have shown organic foods have more nutrients and antioxidants that conventionally grown fruits, vegetables.

While organic farming is generally more expensive than conventional farming, they often produce better results. Organic farming increases soil fertility and biodiversity.

This helps prevent erosion and conserve water. Organic farms also require less energy and fuel, as they aren't treated using toxic chemicals.

Some people worry that organic foods are more expensive than conventional ones. Prices will vary depending where you live. For example, organic apples can be more costly than conventional apples.

However, organic fruit is more affordable if you compare the price of a basket of both types.

So should you go organic?

It depends on you. It doesn't matter if organic food isn't for you.

However, if you enjoy good-tasting food, you can buy organic food. And since most commercial growers use chemical fertilizers, pesticides, and genetically modified organisms (GMOs), organic foods are safer for consumers.

Organic agriculture preserves our environment by conserving natural resource and encouraging biodiversity.

Are organic foods healthier?

According to the Environmental Working Group's recent report on pesticide residues within foods, organic fruits & vegetables contained nearly half of the pesticides that non-organic varieties. Organic strawberries contained four times more pesticides that their conventional counterparts, and organic apples contained eight percent less.

Other studies suggest that eating organic food reduces exposure to toxic metals like lead and mercury. One study revealed that children who ate organic meat had 33 per cent lower blood lead levels than their counterparts who didn't eat organic meats. Another study concluded that pregnant women should avoid consuming conventional fish due to high levels of mercury.

Organic food appears to be more safe than non-organic. Experts recommend eating fresh fruits and veggies whenever possible to reduce the chance of developing cancer.

What are the top organic products?

Today, organic foods are the fastest-growing industries. However, we still have a lot to learn from our roots.

Organic products will be the future. They are safer, healthier for the environment, and easier to afford for consumers.

They are also generally more expensive. The Organic Food Index was created to address this. We wanted the ability to identify which foods are currently most popular and whether these trends have changed.

The results show that organic food is becoming increasingly popular. Between 2011 & 2012, almost half of Americans purchased organic food.

According to the USDA, organic production increased by 10% last year alone. Organic food now accounts for 9% of U.S. agricultural output.

Organic food is growing in popularity but is still expensive. According to the Organic Trade Association OTA, organic food retail prices are about twice those of conventional products.

The organic food sector is growing faster than other segments of the food supply. If you look closely at the data, it will be apparent that organic food consumption has steadily increased since 2009.

According to OTA the volume of organic products sold at supermarkets grew by 14% in 2010 and 2011.

This increase reflects consumer demand for healthier foods, which explains why organic food sales are increasing across all age groups.

Younger generations are also leading the way in organic food choices. Millennials are twice more likely to purchase organic food than baby boomers. Young adults below 35 years of age account for 25%.

What are the top organic vegetables?

Organic vegetables are the healthiest and most nutritious foods available to humans. They are considered to be the healthiest foods on earth.

Organic produce is free from pesticides and herbicides. These chemicals can pose serious risks to our environment and health.

Organic produce contains more nutrients, vitamins and minerals. Because we absorb these nutrients better from organic foods, this makes them healthier.

Organic vegetables are delicious and safe to eat. Organic produce is safe to eat.

You can find organic fruits and veggies at any grocery store. Organic produce can be found at any grocery store as long as it is produced in accordance with USDA guidelines. This means that they must meet the standards established by the United States Department of Agriculture.

What should I look out for when buying organic products?

USDA-certified organic labels are recommended. This seal signifies that the product meets specific USDA standards. Look out for the USDA Organic seal on boxes, cartons cans and jars.

When you shop for meat, ensure that it comes from cows who are fed organic feed. Ruminants are cattle that chew their cud. Ruminant cattle have four stomach areas: rumen (reticulum), omasum (omasum), and abomasum. If the cow is to be labeled "100% organic", all of its parts must have been organically fed.

When buying chicken, make sure it comes only from chickens fed 100% organic feed and never given antibiotics. Chickens are omnivores, meaning they eat both plants and animals. A digestive tract that is omnivorous includes a crop, proventriculus and gizzard. It also contains small intestines, large intestines, and anus.

You should ensure you only buy dairy products made from milk that has been produced by cows who have been fed 100% organically grown food. Just like ruminants have four stomachs, dairy cows have four. Milk comes from the fourth stomach compartment--the udder.

You should always check the label before purchasing any other livestock. This will let you know what percentage of the diet was given to the animals. For example, pork may be marked "95% organic" to indicate that 95 percent of the pork's feed is organic.

What is organic meat exactly?

Organic meat means real food, grown without artificial fertilizers or pesticides. It also means the animals were not fed any genetically modified foods. The meat is safe to consume because it contains no harmful chemicals.

Organic meats are healthier for our environment. We reduce the amount of pollution in our rivers, lakes, and landfills by eating organic food. Organic farmers don't use harmful chemicals to kill birds and insects, which helps wildlife.

You can eat organic meats and produce whenever you can. Local buying helps to keep money in the community, rather than moving out of state. Local businesses often pass down savings to customers when they shop locally. In addition, buying local keeps jobs right here in America instead of sending them overseas.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) must set strict guidelines for organic foods. All organic food must comply with the National Organic Program Standards. This means that it must not contain prohibited materials like antibiotics, growth hormones or genetically modified organisms (GMOs), as well as industrial solvents. Additionally, organic food must be raised without toxic chemicals, petroleum-based fertilizers, sewage sludges, or ionizing radiation.
