The results showed that organic food is increasing in popularity. The number of Americans shopping for organic food grew by nearly 50% between 2011 and 2012.

The USDA reports that organic production increased 10% last year. Organic food now makes up 9% U.S. agriculture output.

Although organic food is gaining popularity, it appears that consumers still have to pay a premium for it. According to the Organic Trade Association OTA, organic food retail prices are about twice those of conventional products.

Despite this, organic food is growing at a faster rate than any other food segment. If you examine the data closely, you will see that organic foods have grown steadily in consumption since 2009.

According to OTA however, the volume in supermarkets of organic products grew by 14% from 2010 to 2011.

This increase is due to consumers' demand for healthier foods. It is why organic food sales are growing across all ages.

However, younger generations are leading the charge when choosing organic food. Millennials are twice as likely to buy organic food compared to baby boomers. And young adults under 35 years old account for 25% of all organic food purchases.


What is organic beef?

Organic meat means real food, grown without artificial fertilizers or pesticides. It also means that the animals weren't fed any genetically modified feed. The meat is safe to consume because it contains no harmful chemicals.

Organic meats are good for the environment. We reduce the amount of pollution in our rivers, lakes, and landfills by eating organic food. Organic farmers don't use harmful chemicals to kill birds and insects, which helps wildlife.

Locally purchasing organic meats is the best way to make sure you are eating healthy and organic meats. Buying local helps keep more money circulating within the community rather than going out of state. Local businesses often pass down savings to customers when they shop locally. In addition, buying local keeps jobs right here in America instead of sending them overseas.


How can you tell if your produce is organic?

These three labels are essential if you want to be certain that you are purchasing organic produce.

USDA Organic Certified – Produced by USDA and certified as 100% organic.

Certified Naturally Grown – Produce that meets strict organic standards but has not received USDA certification.

Pastured/Free Range - Produce from animals who live outdoors and graze freely on grass and herbs.

These labels are used to indicate that the product meets specified criteria.

Why should I buy organic?

Conventional agriculture has been linked with many health problems including asthma, allergies. Make healthy food choices.

Here are some tips from the Environmental Working Group (EWG).

Always buy organic fruits & vegetables.

USDA organic labels for meat, poultry eggs, milk and cheese as well butter and honey are recommended.

Avoid processed foods labeled as "natural" or "no additives."

Make sure you read through all the ingredients. If an ingredient is not listed, it can be added during processing.

You should choose fresh meats rather than frozen or canned. Foods that are frozen or canned often have less nutritionally-rich ingredients, such as high fructosecorn syrup.

How to Buy Organic Meat Even on a Limited Budget

In this post I'll share some tips and techniques for buying organic meat that won't break the bank.

Here are my tips for finding cheap organic meats. I'll also tell you how much each pound costs. You will learn how to make the best out of what you purchase.

You don't need to spend a lot of money to eat healthily. Sometimes creativity is required to make money while still eating healthy. Here are my suggestions for ways to cut food costs while still enjoying the benefits of organic meat.

  1. Shop at wholesale clubs - Sams Club or Costco are great places to buy bulk foods such as chicken breasts and pork chops. If you're lucky enough to live near one of these stores, you can often get deals on large quantities of meat (up to 50 pounds). This ensures that meat is not wasted. And if you buy it in bulk, you can freeze it, so it lasts longer.
  2. Shopping online is easy - There are tons of websites that sell meat at reduced prices. Amazon has Prime Pantry, a weekly sale that offers free shipping for orders over $35. There are discounts on roasts, ground beef and lamb steaks as well as pork loins. You can browse their website and view what's on sale at different times.
  3. Local farmers will usually be cheaper than big-box retailers since they don't pay large fees to stock their shelves. They also know what their animals ate and drink so they can tell exactly what is inside.
  4. Look out for cuts that are the leanest. It's generally less expensive to cook lean meat than fatty. So, look for the leanest cuts. The most popular are sirloin or flank steak, tenderloin roasts, top round steak, and top roast steak. These cuts are high in protein and low in fat.
  5. Try new recipes. Start cooking with ingredients that you have never used before. This is one of the easiest ways reduce your grocery costs. You may be surprised by how many delicious dishes you can come up with using fresh tomatoes, onions, garlic, olive oil, and spices.
