The organic option is a great way to avoid consuming any chemicals that could negatively impact your health and weight loss goals. Studies have shown that high consumers of organic foods have a lower risk of developing diabetes.
Although washing your produce may help get rid of some pesticides, it cannot remove all of them. That’s why choosing organic fruits and vegetables is the best choice.
Reduced Pesticide Residue
Many people purchase organic food because they believe it is healthier. However, the health benefits of organic foods are still controversial. A July 2014 study published in the British Journal of Nutrition reopened this debate by showing that organic fruits and vegetables contain higher levels of antioxidants.
The research involved testing urine from participants after six days on a conventional diet and then again on an organic diet. They found that after eating a diet of mostly organic foods, people had significantly lower amounts of pesticide residues in their urine.
Licensed and registered dietitian Stephen Compston of Renown Health recommends choosing organic versions of the Environmental Working Group’s “Dirty Dozen” list to minimize your exposure to pesticides. Although, he stresses that simply focusing on getting adequate amounts of fruits and vegetables should be your top priority regardless of whether you choose organic or non-organic options. Moreover, it is important to avoid consuming processed organic products since they are often high in sugar, salt and fat.
Lower Glycemic Load
The glycemic load of foods measures the total amount of carbohydrate in a food and how it affects blood sugar levels. A lower glycemic load may help people control their blood sugar and keep their weight in check.
Research suggests that organic fruits and vegetables have lower glycemic loads than conventional produce. However, these findings are based on small studies that have limited generalizations. Larger studies are needed to confirm these results and establish the strength of this association.
Another benefit of eating organic is that it provides more nutrients per serving. For instance, a cup of organic strawberries contains more vitamin C than an equal-sized serving of non-organic strawberries. This makes it easier for consumers to maintain a healthy diet while still feeling satisfied.
Increased Nutrient Content
Organic foods are usually richer in nutrients and have lower sugar, salt and fat contents. This makes them more nutrient dense and helps aid in maintaining a healthy weight.
Many studies have shown that organic food is higher in essential fatty acids and antioxidants, vitamins and minerals. These nutritional benefits of organic food can boost metabolism and increase energy levels which can help people lose weight.
Organic produce is generally healthier than conventionally grown food because it doesn't contain any synthetic pesticides, chemical fertilizers or antibiotics. However, remember that a strict diet of only organic foods is not necessarily healthy because some organic baked goods, desserts and snacks are still high in fat, salt or sugar. It is best to stick with a balanced diet of lean protein, whole grains and fruits and vegetables to help manage weight. Avoid processed foods and choose organic versions whenever possible. Organic foods also have a lower glycemic load, which helps balance hormones and prevents insulin resistance, making it easier to burn fat.
Reduced Sugar Content
If you're looking to trim some of the sugar from your diet, organic foods may be a good option. In a study published in the journal Nutrients, researchers used data from 33,000 individuals who participated in the ongoing NutriNet-Sante survey and reported how often they purchased organic food. They then looked at how this correlated with their risk of developing type 2 diabetes over the course of four years.
Results indicated that higher frequency of organic food consumption was associated with a reduced risk of type 2 diabetes. In fact, for every 5% increase in the proportion of organic food consumed, the likelihood of developing type 2 diabetes decreased by 3%.
Despite this finding, more research is needed to determine how much of the health benefits associated with organic food can be attributed to a lower content of added sugar. While reducing sugar is a good thing, there are some pluses to having some -- for example, it makes foods tender in baking and helps balance acidity.

Many health issues have been linked to conventional agriculture, including obesity, diabetes and cancer. You must make healthy choices when buying food.
The Environmental Working Group offers these tips:
Always purchase organic fruits, vegetables and other products whenever possible.
USDA organic labels for meat, poultry eggs, milk and cheese as well butter and honey are recommended.
Avoid processed foods marked "natural" or with "no additives."

How To
How to save money on organic meat
In this article, I will share my tips and tricks for buying organic meat without having to break the bank.
You will learn where to buy cheap organic meats, and what they cost per pound. You will be able to make the most of what you have purchased.
To eat well, you don't have to spend a lot. Sometimes, you have to use your creativity to save money while still eating well. Here's my list to help you keep food costs low while still enjoying all the health benefits of organic meat.
- Wholesale clubs - Sams Club and Costco are great places for bulk food like chicken breasts or pork chops. If you're lucky enough to live near one of these stores, you can often get deals on large quantities of meat (up to 50 pounds). This way, you won't waste any meat. It's also possible to freeze meat purchased in bulk so that it lasts longer.
- Shop around online - Tons of websites sell meat at discounted prices. Amazon offers Prime Pantry, a weekly deal with free shipping on orders above $35. You can get discounts on ground beef, beef roasts, lamb steaks and pork loins. It's easy to browse their website and see what's available at different times.
- Locate a farmer in your area. Local farmers are usually cheaper than big box retailers as they don’t pay high stocking fees. They also know what their animals ate and drink so they can tell exactly what is inside.
- Choose lean cuts of meat - It is usually cheaper to cook lean meat than fatty. Look for the tiniest cuts. These include sirloin, tenderloin, top round, flank, and top-round steaks. These cuts have high protein and low fat.
- Try new recipes. Start cooking with ingredients that you have never used before. This is one of the easiest ways reduce your grocery costs. You might be amazed at the delicious recipes you can create with fresh tomatoes and onions, garlic, olive oils, and spices.
- You can be creative with leftovers. If you have leftover poultry or meat, you can use them to make sandwiches, soups and casseroles. It's easy to make quick lunches and dinners with leftover meat.
There you have it! So there you have it! My list of tips for getting organic meat without breaking the bank. Do you have other tips? Are you able to give me any tips on how to get cheap meat?
