The Environmental Working Group found that organic apples contained eight-times less pesticides than other non-organic fruits, and organic strawberries had fourfold more than their conventional counterparts.

Research has also suggested that organic food may reduce mercury and lead exposure. For example, one study showed that children who ate organic meat had 33 percent lower blood lead levels than those who didn't consume organic meats. Another study concluded traditional fish should not be consumed by pregnant women, due to high mercury levels.

Organic food is generally safer than non-organic. However, to reduce your risk of cancer and other diseases, experts recommend choosing fresh fruit and vegetables whenever possible.

What are organic foods?

Organic produce can be grown without the use of pesticides or synthetic fertilizers. There are no growth hormones used and animal testing is not performed. These crops are allowed natural growth, so farmers don't use chemicals to kill pests and weeds.

Organic farming methods also help to preserve soil quality, reduce erosion, and conserve water resources. In addition, organics are better for our health because they contain more nutrients than conventional food. Organic products are more nutritious than conventionally grown foods and have lower calories and fiber.

These include cancer, allergies, skin irritation, hormonal imbalance, and premature aging.

How To

Five Reasons to Purchase Organic Products

Organic foods do not use pesticides or synthetic fertilisers. They do not contain genetically modified organisms (GMOs), or radioactive ingredients. They are not made with sewage sludge, industrial solvents, or any other chemical substances. During the growth process, food is kept clean from any contamination. It is free of preservatives as well as artificial additives. There is no use of antibiotics or hormones. They are also made in conditions that maintain their nutritional value and freshness for longer times.

  1. Health benefits. Organic produce contains fewer chemicals than nonorganic produce. This makes it less likely to cause allergies or sensitivities. It also means you're consuming fewer toxins and carcinogens.
  2. Eco-friendliness. Organic produce is low in water consumption. Organic farms are often located far from areas with high levels of pollution because it takes so much energy for conventional agriculture to grow. This reduces air pollution.
  3. Sustainability. Organic farming relies on soil fertility rather than chemical fertilizers; this results in healthier soils with higher levels of organic matter. The rotation of crops and the letting of land fallow can improve soil health. Farm animals that eat only grasses, grains and no antibiotics develop strong immune systems.
  4. Taste. Conventional fruits and vegetables often taste bland because they're picked at peak ripeness, then shipped long distances to grocery stores. Organic produce is sweeter and richer because it was harvested at the peak of its ripeness.
  5. Nutrition. GMOs and BPA can be found in many processed foods. Stick to whole foods, including meat, eggs fish, nuts seeds, beans and fruit.
